On the porch
Fly takes over and we lose a PF by a point and finish in the top 2 the following season.
Yet we have too many players over 30.

What are the “serious hard” calls you want to make?Lets hope if we crash and burn in the finals we make some serious hard calls and start a mini rebuild and free up a huge amount of salary cap, hang back too long and we get caught out in the pack
We have too many aging players, not enough young age talent outside Naicos and some untried potentials. - Like another poster said our issue is also they are all slow!!!
Issue is we also don't have any players in/out that are worth trading out so we are caught in the middle right now.
We don't have the added benefit of being an interstate team or Geelong with go home factor so we really need to draft & trade like no other - the Collingwood/Hollywood factor is just about dead so thats no an advantage any more either.
Feels like Flag or bust this year and beyond.
30 is just a number. It depends on the player. Overall though, AFL clubs have massively undervalued the benefit of older experienced players and have preferred to speculate on youth. That's starting to change and we'll see players playing longer and longer.
Our mix seems great this season but that's because we have Nick Daicos at one end of the spectrum and Pendles and Steele at the other, all of them pretty rare and special players.
Can't understand the whole thing of we're so slow with these old players like Pendles and Steele when neither has ever been fast.
I'm not sure if either of them have even lost any speed. Pendles has been making more ball handling errors over the past 2 years but this was a guy who barely for over a decade so we grew to expect perfection.
Average age of a list is completely irrelevant. We'll start to see more older players go to better teams at the tail end of their careers in the hopes of winning a premiership. So no, we don't have too many players over 30 and a couple of the ones we do have are absolute treasures so we should enjoy it while they're still playing.

Loki - mate.Pendles also been getting caught more this season and outside last week players burning him for leg speed on the spread.
That was never an issue for him as he wasn't fast but nor was he slow, he was average paced.
You’ve offered no reasons why having players aged 30 and over is bad, other than a vague reference to injuries.I think we do. It may be that 3O is the new 25, but injuries mount up over time. No doubt someone will point out that our average list age is such and such, however we still have plenty in the 30+ category. Hoskin Elliot is only weeks away from his 30th birthday.
Loki - mate.
How can a problem that didn’t occur “last week”, be a huge issue.
Pendles has never been fast, but it seems he can turn it on (per your last week comment). When he loses the capacity to turn it on, then it’s the end.
It concerns me and evidently others, that we have as many as we do. It’s a young man’s game for the most part. Surely you are cognisant of that. You’ve offered no reasons why having players aged 30 and over is bad, other than a vague reference to injuries.
What is it about our list of older players that you would change?
Surely you are cognisant of using meaningless cliches? Offer some evidence of players in the age bracket who are not contributing, or how having less of them would improve our chances of winning the flag.It concerns me and evidently others, that we have as many as we do. I’m simply stating a fact. There’s no point in denying it. If we don’t win it this year, it’s not going to be any easier next year.Surely you are cognisant of using meaningless cliches? The powers in charge of the list have put together a squad that will finish 1st or 2nd after the home and away season. What could you do differently?
No. You stated an opinion that we have too many 30 year old players but offered no actual argument to support it.I’m simply stating a fact. There’s no point in denying it. If we don’t win it this year, it’s not going to be any easier next year.

Call me Mr Cliche. He backed it up with a “ it won’t be any easier next year” cliche.
Is 9 players by the beginning of next season too few for your liking? No. You stated an opinion that we have too many 30 year old players but offered no actual argument to support it.
So now we are getting somewhere. You're asking the question for next year?Is 9 players by the beginning of next season too few for your liking?

I can't see any of the 'old brigade' moving on next year, but perhaps the younger players might push for selection.
I’m searching for answers like all Collingwood supporters at the moment. I hope like everyone else they can get back on track. So now we are getting somewhere. You're asking the question for next year?

We will.I’m searching for answers like all Collingwood supporters at the moment. I hope like everyone else they can get back on track.
Which of our mids is advantaged when Cameron is in the ruck?Pendles is still good in the centre when Cox is rucking, when Cameron rucks it doesn't help pendles at all.
I don't think any are.Which of our mids is advantaged when Cameron is in the ruck?
I forgot to add Mihocek to the list. That makes 10.Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Howe, Cox, Adams, Mitchell, Elliot (Hoskin Elliot & Crisp only weeks away) That’s almost a quarter of the list.
Perhaps they're not future replacements.I don't know why Macrae and Carmichael haven't been given more games as emerging replacements for Adams and Mitchell, who are vulnerable.
