I still feel for the players because they're largely pawns in all of this but I want to see Essendon's administration, both past and present, fry. Perpetuating bullshit.

Mongo just pawn in great game of life.

cheat is an interesting word.. Richmond in a game a few years ago rushed behind after behind after behind to win a match by just walking it over time and time and again to run the clock down

Against the spirit of the game yes
Bringing the game into disrepute yep
Cheating ? well yes
Did they get kicked out? no

I see why Essendon supporters get a bad name...

It's almost incomprehensible that no player sought an opinion from anyone outside the club. Nobody mentioned the frequent injections to their manager, AFLPA, opposition players, wife, family, local GP - nothing. Footballers aren't all equally stupid and/or trusting.
They signed confidentiality agreements so they might have felt threatened by that. My guess is that they probably thought it was boarderline okay (they were told it was by people in authority) but vanity and allure to be better players got the better of them. Once they were in the "system" it would have been very hard to get out.

Like Jonestown. Gotcha.

And of course Hird is still OK with that

What was the fight over?

Great, so lets ditch the drug testing and start the afl wide investigation. Multiple clubs found with suspect programs = multiple clubs investigated. If multiple clubs were investigated and put through the ringer like EFC have been it would be the end of AFL. Ping one club, make and example, appear to 'make a stand' against drugs in sport, job done AFL/ASADA.

Why? The ACC didn't mention any other clubs have systemic doping programs. Nor did ASADA.

Just Essendon.

When all this broke North were immediately able to give the AFL full and detailed records of every supplement given to every player, times, dates, substances etc.

Stop trying to smear the rest of the competition you filthy cheats.

There is an increasing dialogue that talks about other teams having suspect programs and Essendon the only one being punished for it. The review found that other teams did not have the appropriate checks and balances in place to prevent the use of banned substances, not that they potentially had used banned substances. There was no thymosin or AOD listed on consent forms, no tales of extreme numbers of injections, no text messages intercepted, no mentions in an ACC investigation.

So yes, maybe other clubs are lucky they didn't have a Dank in their midst but they also might not have had the inner sanctum giving a nod and a wink and suggesting they needed to catch other teams who they thought were on the gear.

Essendon didn't get done for governance issues because the environment was conducive to a doping program, but because that environment allowed a doping program or at least one where banned substances were present in or around the club, and circumstantial evidence suggests officials knew. Other clubs were told to tighten up so they didn't get to Essendon's level. Hardly the same.

I kind of do support Essendon in this legal action. Little just doesn't understand sports or sports fan, he is very much from any industry that doesn't give a damn unless it delivers dollars. But he isn't dealng wth dollars here and is way out of his depth. A win in court for Essendon will see them forever branded as drug cheats, with no hope of redemption. And that is in itself an odd kind of justice.

Could not believe Little claiming that Essendon had the support of the wider football community. Bloke must be living in an ivory tower. Talk back is dominated by people saying they have to go, at work everyone who is not an Essendon supporter thinks they have to go.

It is universal that no one wants to see Hird back.

So lets take a poll, do you support Essendon in their fight against ASADA?

Lets put Bombers fans aside - and put those with a financial interest at stake in the game also aside (e.g all footy media employees).

For regular fans - Id say it was 95% against. 5% for Bombers.

That 5% are usually hardcore right wingers who support them on ideological grounds - e.g Alan Jones, Andrew Bolt listeners who think the AFL are a pack of commies and hate all government agencies so just hate ASADA for simply existing.

I'm not sure they're expecting a win rather they want to buy some time to put some contingency in place. If they don't challenge conceivably the place could fall apart. But if they keep everyone in tent they might preserve the rump of the organisation to continue when suspensions arrive. If they do win it's a bonus.

All I want in all of this is the full story to come out.

Now I know this is now highly unlikely to happen and the longer it goes the further we are from a transparent and open finding of what actually happened.

If it all comes out in the open and the Bombers get off - then Im happy with that.

But the constant muddying of the waters, obfuscation and avoidance by them of any kind of transparency - while at the same time telling us how they co-operated with ASADA is just too much.

Whats that old saying? 'Dont piss in my pocket and tell me its raining'. Thats what the Bombers have done for 18 months.

LOL I think you mean Don't piss on my shoe and tell me it's raining, but nice try. :thumbsu:

Haha gold
Is it a Denis Paganism?

Man I love mixed metaphors. :)

Pretty sure Pagan's was "don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining".

Little doesn't need fan support. He needs the AFL and AFLPA to stuck with the EFC. This is not a democracy.

I would be considered a right winger along with a number of mates. No one supports the bummers.

Do we the wider footy public support Essendon as per Little's comment today?

Nah, however, we expect them to take reasonable action to minimize the amount of the loss suffered... as outlined in the Dr. Ziggy Switkowski report.....

The question is whether we as a football community agree that Federal Court action that will cost millions of $'s by a club already in debt is reasonable?

10) Institutions are often judged by how well they respond to crises. Post February 2013, the EFC response seems textbook correct. But the best organizations are judged by how well they anticipate and prevent crises. Risk assessment and mitigation, while already part of the core board agenda, should be re examined.
