  • For one, put the established players back in their normal positions and stop ******* around with the experimental footy.
  • Put Naughton at CHB to stop the rot, bolster Jones and the ailing Keath
  • Bring Sweet in the ruck, put English at CHF
  • put JJ back off the HB flank playing an overlapping runner
  • Get Daniel out of defense FFS and put him on the forward line

Good post

• Agreed

• Also agreed for the moment, for two reasons: Naughton’s goal kicking is a liability, and the forward line is too tall heavy. If not sending Naughton back, then send Darcy back - at the moment, playing all three of Naughton/JUH/Darcy in the forward line plainly isn’t working (on another note - please get fit Cody Weightman)

• English number one ruck, Lobb or Sweet number two, the resting ruckman at CHF or on bench.

• On form, JJ doesn’t deserve to be in. However, the side is frighteningly slow at the moment so I’m inclined to bring him back in. JJ also has never impressed me in the forward line. Best to utilise his one asset (lace) at half back

• Don’t agree with this. Daniel is woefully out of form at the moment - I also couldn’t fathom playing him in the middle last night. Instead of putting him on the forward line I’d almost be dropping him at the moment. Last chance this week

He shelved Wood as a forward pretty quick.

There's are some hysterical takes here, I still think Beveridge wants to win and will do what it takes but every coach, no matter how good, reaches a used by date.

I love Bevo and everything he's done for this club but I think it's fairly obvious his used by date is now.

He's still out greatest ever coach but I don't see him coaching up next year, even if many of us here overate our list. No team without small forwards and an intercepting defender is doing much damage in football. In many ways, we over performed in 2021 relative to what we had.

How does Bev get a 2 year extension when as you say it’s fairly obvious his used by date is now?

Desperately, desperately looking for a positive:

In 2020, after a shit Round One against Collingwood, a woeful Round Two also against the Saints, two games at two ends of COVID lockdown, we played the Giants in Round Thre.

Everyone was writing us off, we were all depressed as hell due to the lockdown and our shit form - and we came out, played a great game and won.

Virtually the same circumstances this time around (minus the lockdown - yay!)

I know, I know, it’s a stretch.

And I don’t really believe it myself.

But I’m desperate.

Please, please, please prove me right!!

The romantic (?) in me hopes it’s a Geelong type situation where they had a review, Bomber Thompson learnt from it and next stop a Premiership.
A review is essential imo whether Bev goes or not. The assistant coaching set up, strength and conditioning - we have all been questioning this.

We often equate a review with the coach been told to move on.
A review may result in the coach remains but been better supported as areas impacting his ability to coach are addressed such as assistant coaches, tactical improvements and fitness issues.

The players are unfit and a lot are unprofessional. I see them smashing schooners at the Mona lisa and the pub in yarraville during the season. The night of the north Melbourne practice match several of the players were in the siglo bar drinking and smoking cigars. Talent only gets you so far, you need to work hard and be professional. The culture is rotten.

I mentioned this culture last year with a player walking legless down a road enough to be offerred a lift and was crucified for questioning whether this was an issue.

He's got no game plan. He has consistently underperformed with a very good list. His decision making is bizarre. The level of coaching is just not up to it. Our list management has gone from being the best to the worst. We've given talent away for literally nothing. Take off the rose tinted specs it's a live car crash in ultra slow motion.

I had a work colleague about 10 years ago that was in the know, he said the players had the wrong attitude back then. Unprofessional is a good word for it. Being unprofessional keeps us just where we are :(

The extension was penned months ago (December), not now.
Even on here there was a fair bit of optimism during pre-season.

The 6 month rule means there's little risk to the club anyway.

A few of us noted there were issues at the club and were roundly shouted down on here last year.

Hardwick survived a review as well, but had a beefed up support staff in the following years.
Right now has the 'vibe' sunk too far to be salvageable though?

Thanks
I would say issues were obvious last year so no need rush to extensions but the 6 month rule covers that

I don't want to start getting attacked again. Everybody loves the guy, including me, but this behaviour in the first few weeks of the 2022 season was a major concern.
Were/are they playing good footy? For mine that’s the only thing that matters - would we love everyone to be angels who stay off the drink and train religiously sure but in reality it’s never going to be the case amongst 44 young men. Some people can just work hard/play hard and still thrive with their work/game. If they’re one of the few who is still turning up week in week out and performing then honestly I couldn’t care less what they do in their spare time.

If it’s affecting their footy or having a bad influence on other players then yeah it’s a problem and needs to be stamped out. Bruce is a good example of someone who realised their behaviour was affecting their performance and cut it out, got fit and put in the best season of his life.

I think no matter how good a clubs ‘culture’ is this stuff will still be happening, we all know what De Geoys like but now he’s playing the best footy of his career and Collingwood are winning so no one gives a shit again, and then there’s the Ginnivan incident - and this is at a club who is being universally praised for how good their culture is. Win on the weekend and no one gives a shit, When you start losing the knives will come out again but I can guarantee we wouldn’t be the only club with stories like that and don’t think it’s any indication of a whole clubs professionalism/culture. (Not saying you’re saying it is btw)

Are you referring to Cordy during the Mad Monday celebrations?

No. It was at the start of the season last year - 2 or 3 games in.

It wasn't Bont as I've heard when he's out with the boys he leaves early & leaves them to it.

Here we go.

I'm not getting into this discussion again.

I was replying to " I see them smashing schooners at the Mona lisa and the pub in yarraville during the season. Maybe it's crap. What if it's not? The last sentence isn't crap.

Older players & leaders must be the example for younger players who are more likely to be tempted to do this during a season. It's unprofessional for starters. They have 6 months to get this out of their system. Then stay straight during the season proper.

And yes it's ok to have a few bevvies and go out & shake your bootie on the dance floor or whatever. This isn't what I was peed about.

I think one of the main hurdles we are going to encounter is the ego of the board and administration who only re-signed him recently. Good leaders learn to eat humble pie. Are they good leaders? We will see soon because these are the times that sort out all leaders. Anyone can lead when things are going well. They need to know exactly what is going on, the vision to see where it will lead, and then have the courage to act.

Josh Dunkley to take the coin toss for the Lions this week and accidentally fire the Dogs boys up, like when Haynes did it in that game?

(just kidding, when GWS tried it no one even noticed, but its a classic Plastics memory)

Heard that idiotic clown Whateley on the radio this morning making an excuse for this: he said if we didn't re-sign him in the preseason, him being out of contract would be a big drama right now and an even bigger distraction for the club.

...is that supposed to be somehow worse than re-signing him and playing like complete garbage?

Cannot stand Whateley; his made a career out of hosting a show with an even bigger clown (Mark Robinson), who's role is to make Whateley look more intelligent and informed than he really is.

As far as the media goes, I feel like there is only one person who has ever targeted Beveridge specifically and repeatedly questioned his ability as a coach: Kane Cornes. Nobody else seems to have the guts for whatever reason.

Naughton is our only forward who looks like scoring and looks threatening and his field kicking is very poor to play down back
Why would you move English who's been the only one to play well both games for a plodder ruck?
JJ has been fairly poor and undeserving of a spot for years
Agree with Daniel crumbing forward will be his only role now for me
