I don't really like the majority of Australian sports fans tbh.

Aussie rules and cricket specifically (I don't follow much outside of that).

The treatment of Steve Smith (and to slightly lesser extents, Warner and Bancroft) is a stain on the nation.

As for AFL, people complain about the coverage, but the networks are merely appealing to the lowest common denominator.

If there were demand for proper statistical and strategic analysis (in-game and in review) then somebody would provide it.

The demand isn't there. The Aus sports public is simply not interested. Because they are simpletons (generally speaking).

It is amusing that the one commentator who tries to up the analysis level is Daisy Pearce. Kudos to her for that.

As for North fans, I'll give them a pass. They (we) have been through a lot. But that 'kanga kanga' chant is embarrassing.

The North board on bigfooty is full of chip-on-their-shoulder nuffies but there are still some gems in there.

I'll never forget Roosistence back 2007. Good times.

Sorry, the treatment of Steve Smith, captain of the national team who decided cheating was ok? As if the cricket team weren't on the nose enough after Clarke's time at the helm. The sport went from one of larrikins who played to one of spoilt prats.

Essendon fans appear to have had the streak of arrogance knocked out of almost all of the fan base over the last couple of decades. Though I fear those same people will be back the same as they were if we do start winning finals ever again.

After all we've been though I hope we'll be better next time!

I'm guessing that you haven't ever played in any serious competition.

'Ball tampering' is part of the game. The South Africans did it and so did the English. Their fans cheered them on.

Smith, Warner and Bancroft were dumb enough to do it with sandpaper, and get caught, so they deserved the two-match penalty.

That's what it used to be. A two-match penalty.

But what did the bitter and tall poppy syndrome Aus public demand? Life bans?

For one of the best batsmen the world has ever seen? For trying to win?

The Lions fans I come across in real life seem nice enough. A decent size minority on this site are flogs, trolls and/or sock puppets. A distinct lack of blue collars, diesel and dust amongst both sets though.

I played cricket for years and I was pretty good, played in the VCA but retired in my mid 20's. I never reached the upper level of the VCA. I think you are correct when you say at the very high levels theres been a ball tampering culture. However the worst I ever saw was loading up on one side up with sweat and saliva on the old ball for reverse swing....lol! Imran Khan used to scratch the shit outta one side to get it to reverse. Smith is a cheating SOB though, thats the truth. Was his punishment too severe? Probably.
