Seriously?

No one who watched that grand final who has even the slightest understanding of football could possibly continue the myth that Dale Thomas is soft.

The kid has elevated himself to gun status this year, not because he has the freaky skills (which he does have), but because of his 2 way work ethic. He throws his body in hard, and takes a pounding but gets up and goes again. He has one of those lean body types but that doesn't stop him from launching.

Win or lose on Saturday, Thomas is becoming the player we hoped he could become when he was drafted.

Feel free to disagree, but at least try to be factual in your arguments. I love this kid, I reckon he's a gun.

I can't remember if he was ever really a soft player. If he was he broke that soft tag in 09 imo. Played in the forward line in a sort of defensive role and he was good at that.

This year he has become a star player so I think it's the ability that is finally matching the profile that is what makes his more of a respected player. Plus he has become a more professional player on the field. Stopped all the cringeworthy stuff (celebrations etc.).

Already had a thread on this, the kinder words on Thomas are appreciated but at this point Pies supporters starting these threads is starting to feel a little like gloating.

There is no issue with the courage of any of the 44 players who took the field last Saturday, and there never will be.

If it were so, that game, above all ever played, would have exposed them.

good player, not gun. That word gets used too often. Showed some dedication on the weekend but so did 40 odd other players

He had a good game - especially first half in GF1.

However, picked out Milne to have a go at, then later Montagna for no obvious reason. Two of our smallest players.

In Q3 he missed an easy running shot at goal because he panicked under pressure. Less than five minutes later he passed off to Jarryd Blair who was a similar distance out - IMO because he didn't have the stones to take the responsibility himself.

People can go on about the 2 goals that Cloke missed at the end of the 2nd Q but Thomas was just as guilty in the 3rd.

Good player, but at times remains mentally soft.

I think the term "gun" is probably extremely flexible in its use, but I would say that Dale Thomas is definitely more than just a good player. He was regarded by most people as Collingwood's best player and not far off Goddard and Hayes ...

i honestly believe that if he had a hair cut that 90% of haters would change their opinion on the kid!

im not the biggest fan, but cannot argue that he is soft. as mentioned before, a show pony, but not soft..

his weapon is his pace.

thats where he hurt us.

why would you waste a player like that in the clinches?

the saints had no one who could catch thomas.

maybe in 4 or 5 seasons when his pace starts to go, make him harder, but the reason we all loved aussie jones was no bugger could catch him.

opposition teams used to rough him up before the first bounce, at restarts and throw ins etc, because once he was out on his own, gl blowing a hammy running with him.

dale thomas is probably faster again with similar silky skills.

short of putting jones in an aston martin with machine guns, im still worried how we are going to catch him in round 2 :(

I will give Thomas credit, dropped back on the premature media career, let his footy do the talking and look at the results.

Maximum credit. A serious footballer. Probably looms as Sainst biggest challenge on Saturday. Prior to last weekend he was probably number 10 or so in line.
