liverpool, Celtics,
I have been reading about some of the possibles in the draft but most of these will have gone. who are we looking at?

Anyone got the goss?

No idea sorry. Although across the main and rookie drafts I wouldn't mind getting:

1) a ruckman

2) a key forward

3) an inside mid with pace

4) an outside mid with pace and skills

5) a quick small-to-medium defender who runs the lines

6) a goal kicking medium half forward

How did you arrive at that conclusion?

I was looking at AFL website: NAB AFL Draft Machine. We have picks 33&38. It currently has Henry Schade (196 cm defender) at 47 listing, Michael Bussy at 37 (197 cm back/fwd).

I could not even see Marley William's name in the top 100. However, if you search under name, his details come up.

So, these 3 names are some of the names which other HFC supporters have come up with that are very gettable based on NAB Machine, obviously this is only a guide, there are other midfielders there. Even Tom Curran is listed at possible 34.

No matter the wish list in this thread, I reckon this is about all we can hope for with our picks, in this draft.

Shiels, Savage, and Puopolo have all been taken with picks around or much lower than 33 and 38, I know some people have been calling this a weak draft
but I always take that with a touch of salt.

People said the 2009 draft was shallow and I think it was very decent in retrospect.

Hello...Hello... It's a grain of salt, idiot (knuckles Biff's head again)

Shiels and Savage were taken as underage players that were expected to go quite high in the 2009 draft. Puopolo was a mature age recruit. When people talk about the depth of the draft they are talking about the kids.

One of my best mates is a recruiter here in Perth, he reckons this year is the worst draft he's seen in his 12 years of doing the job. Anything over pick 25ish is going to be extremely speculative.

Is love to be proven wrong and get a couple of gems. But make no mistake, this is the type of year recruiters really earn their $$

Not the first time I've heard this. GWS guts the draft with the number of picks it has inside the top 20, and everybody else is left to fight over the scraps. I wouldn't be surprised to see quite a few mature age players from the VFL, SANFL and WAFL be selected in this draft, together with smokeys that nobody has ever heard of before.

I beleive that the last few years we have stocked up on key post players and with the draft being a softer draft I have a feeling that midfield running sype players will be our focus. The stronger drafts have better key post players. Our best options in to continue with highly skilled hard at it mid fielders. I think GWS will take the cream but they have to spread the load across the board with key post, mids and backs. There might be a few mids slip through because of their need to balance the team. Other clubs have different needs but with our midfield starting to mature, I think it is important to continue to find new mid talent.

It is interesting that in this "weak, compromised draft" the Hawks recruiters have elected to use pick 53 when previously everyone thought it would be used to elevate Bruest to the main list.

Presumably there is some method in this decision. My guess is that they are hoping (expecting???) someone they rate to still be around at that pick but not in the rookie draft. Maybe a mature age player???

I certainly won't be getting too excited about this draft.

Mainly because GWS have about 15 chances to get their first round pick right while only one other club has a real first round pick.

**** that. Glad we picked up someone we really wanted with pick 24 instead of fighting with the others over GWS scraps.
