completely nausiating display in front of goal tonight, but aside from that, given that we didn't play all that great...

Dead set, we pissed and moaned we needed a kpd( justified), but if we got one it would take time and yadda yadda.... Adams. Fricken godsend. Steps in and provides EXACTLY what we needed, no "couple years to make it". Bout time the footy gods look after us a little... and Dary is the saint they sent.

Mclean... this kid, weighing in at 50kg soaking wet, boy o boy has he a set of hands on him.

both in their 2nd game of AFL footy. Joining the likes of Stringer, Bont, Macrae, Libba, Wallis, Picken, Boyd, Wood, JJ

How to describe that game?
Bad, average, or just plain shocking.

Despite the win it would not surprise me if three to five players were in danger of being dropped. I doubt a player has ever had 30 posessions and yet registered a negative meters gained but jack macrae would have got close.

Frem and Saints noth could only score 36 points.

We aren't.full attacking like people say, we are good defensively too.

I think it's the midfield and forward pressure that is the catalyst though. So dominant in winning out of the middle and then teams struggle to work the ball out of defence.

It'll be interesting to see how that style holds up against a mature, quality defence with a well drilled game plan.

Our best players tonite were:

Adams (2 games, pick 35)
Daniel (12 games, pick 46)
Jj (49 games, rookie draft)
Hunter (39 games, pick 49)
Absolutely Fronk! This is the most pleasing aspect of tonight. I thought I was watching a prime Brian Lake out there tonight. So hard to believe it was our second gamer Adams. He literally has all the traits of an All Australian full back.
Can't wait to see him and Collins build chemistry together.

Had our first and third quarters been more accurate it would have been a 100pt win. These are the type of games the boys are going to need to learn that must be put away.

True, but you want to peak in September & October, not March/April. Bank wins early so we can rest players in August.

I am loving this habit of keeping oppostion sides to 5 goals. Defence wins premierships.

the fact that our second tier players can on any given game, bob up and have huge influences on the match, is amazing. And the thing is, we don't have any players below second tier like just about all other clubs do

Obviously JJ is All-Australian standard at the moment. Libba's return is astonishing. Adams is a massive inclusion. Dunkley is looking like an inspired pick already. McLean is fast becoming a gun. Dale Morris seems to have improved if that is possible! Roughie is nailing down a possie as a solid ruck option. And we are delivering 10 goal wins when playing well below our best. Lots to be happy about. BUT:

- A few signs that we were believing our own press tonight. A number of ridiculously risky plays, often for no potential advantage. Just party tricks for the sake of it - Harlem Globetrotters stuff. We better not bring that mindset to the Hawks or they will sort us right out.
- A little too much instinctive backwards kicking too. I get if there are no options you go back. But there are a few players who are increasingly looking backwards first. That isn't a positive development.
- I am getting sick of seeing McLean playing for free kicks. All because he is good at drawing them that is no excuse. I'd like that tactic drilled out of his game before it's here to stay.
- Suckling seems to take twice as long to think as the rest of our team. Is our play THAT much faster than Hawthorn's was? Hopefully, he'll pick up the pace. But right now his disposal is rushed about 3/4 of the time.

Still, I'll take the 4 points!

Hard to not be super impressed with what you boys have going on now- especially with the way you set up defensively, reckon it has stepped up a notch again form last year. Means even if your offensive weapons don't fire you'll still strangle teams. Going to be exciting to watch how far you can go this year.

Think jj will receive a lot of attention next week. If you take him out of the game we look a lot slower! Confident we can compensate though! Keen to see adcock next week too with the inevitable resting of Boyd.

Other than goal kicking which is an issue, we were never troubled and dominated the game.

How we have so many negative posts on this thread is staggering.
