So let me get this right the free kick count was 29 - 20?

The way the campaigners were tubby boo hooing I thought it was 40 - 5 in our favour

Mammy’s little soldiers should have a good cry and let it all out.

Honestly I watch most games even as a neutral and rarely notice the umpire unless it’s that screen hogger Razor Ray.

I’m enjoying the “us against the world” vibe. No-one likes us, we don’t care.

I really just think he shanked it and got lucky it went straight to Roarke.

On closer inspection I just don't think it's possible he can see Roarke with two Lions players coming for him which would of blocked his view.
He saw Roarke through their legs.

I didn’t notice this at the time but have rewatched now and that was a terrible non call.

These two occur within about 3 minutes of each other. One a clear free and the other clearly not … but it’s definitely rigged in our favour.
Watching SOB's multicall video, of the 8 or 9 different calls, only triple m or 3aw called it out.

I've rewatched the Caleb Daniel kick to Roarke 54 times and I honestly believe it was intentional for two reasons:

1. For a split second before kicking the ball he glances in Roarke's direction.

2. If it was a pure dump kick he would have taken twice the distance. He pulled that deliberately.

It's almost hard to believe he's that good though...

I went through exactly the same process and reached the same conclusion for the same reasons. There was a second Bulldog standing just in front of Roarke's right too. So Daniel was probably just making sure it landed in that region.

And a point 3. He screwed it round wayyyyyyyy too much if it was a random dump. He would have tried to put a dump kick much closer to the line.

I think that was an intentional kick. And no-one else would have done that. What a player.

Sick to death of our wins being scrutinised by Oppo fans re. Umpiring.

Hawthorn copped it for years.
But that’s exactly the point… oppo fans are not scrutinizing our wins because if they did they’d realise that there is absolutely no bias at all. All these clowns saying we get a free ride with the umpires never have a list of any more than one 50/50 free kick that was paid. They hang their argument on that one Weightman free where he was pushed out of bounds. obviously the wrong call but that was one wrong call in a game of footy… So what!
Sydney supporters whing about the 2016 GF but I’m yet to see any solid examples of free kicks that were paid or missed in that game. The only one that I think we got away with was Morris sliding in too low on the wing. But again that is one missed in a whole game.
Free kick counts are not an argument at all. The only argument that flies is examples of umpiring mistakes and I’m yet to see that.

Any word on Bont’s knee yet?
Look, there's no structural damage which is pleasing, but Marcus has pulled up sore. He still has a few boxes to tick and will have to get through training this week, but he's a true professional and he'll be doing everything he can to lead the boys this week.

Ive watched it several times too. No way he wasn't going for it. Insane cojones. He was entitled to his own little ice in the veins celebration after that

I'm convinced too. The key is the arc of the leg swing. If he was meaning a dump kick, the leg swing after he made contact would have been down the line. In addition to it being on the inside of the boot, he swings his leg across the body. It's crazy.
In addition that’s a Caleb kick, to a T. We have Bont things, and Caleb kicks.

So many wonderful things can be said about that play, but watching the goal umpire remain still as a statue and watch the ball sail over his head is a thing of beauty.

I almost brought my roof down with an all mighty roar.
Props to the players in the chain too: Libba, JJ and Hannan.

I'll start with the fact that we don't win without Bailey Smith. My criticism is that 2 of the Bailey's (Smith and Dale) butchered the ball going inside 50. If you watch the replay there were at least 5 open players that were missed from Dale and Smith (throughout the game), with very little pressure on the kick. Even the goal from Schache (where Smith missed him with a 30 metre pass), was lucky that a Brisbane defender (Gardner I think) was slow to close it down. I'm concerned that Smith doesn't always lower his eyes and blazes away. Better I50 delivery is certainly an area of focus in the off-season. I'm hoping for an improvement this week.

Yes, this is a good point. TNP pointed out the arc of his leg swing, which is a strong piece of evidence for the kick being intentional. He's probably the only player in the league who would have gone for that. Anyone else would have gone for a dump kick down the line, and so they should. Caleb is a freak.

It's a funny thing with Smith. His kick for goal to win it was laser accurate from a tough angle on the run, as was his kick against Port almost on the siren from the other side (just didn't quite have the distance). But his field kicking is so often miss placed. Usually it's the other way round.

You would have to post it on the Port Adelaide board to find the lions posters they are all congregating over there

Not all of the Lions were sooks, there were some that said you can’t blame the umpires that the team made a lot of errors, a look at their history and they haven’t been good enough.

You have highlighted the problem. It’s not the precision of his kicking, he is actually elite by foot. It’s his decision making. This year he has tended to blaze away instead of slowing down, taking a look and hitting the available target. He will mature and get better at this.

Could also be that we’ve often had three excellent contested marks up there this year, so he’s got a bit lazy? Definitely has the elite skills to hit up targets all over the place.

His fourth quarter has sent his stocks back into the atmosphere. Of his draft class, he now has the greatest finals credentials.

All in the last 5 mins

1. Deliberate paid against Daniel - Harsh
2. Holding against Robinson - Not paid
3. Push in the back on Neale paid against Libba - Libba rolled him, not in the back.
4. Holding against Dale - Not paid
5. Push in the back against Vandemeer - not paid, should've been a kick on goal.

I know it's our fault we missed top 4 and we have to cop the road allotted to us, but sheesh the level of advantage for Port in this one is massive.

Port (as they should) get a week off to rest up their fuly available list, live at home and 14 days to prepare in relative freedom.

Over that period we've played a final in the wet in Tasmania, travelled to Queensland, stayed in hotel rooms in strict quarantine, played a 2nd game at very high intensity, gone back to quarantine, travelled to Perth and then to Adelaide.

At the end of a long season, that is a huge extra load.

Port have also had a 2nds competition to keep their fringe players in match practice while ours have had months of no games.

No complaints, I m sure give it our best crack, but iif we find a way to win this one it'll be truly special

I've been watching sackofballs multi-call on it and thought exactly the same. Definitely glanced, and had the time and space to dump it further.

I think we just need to accept that Caleb operates on an entirely different cosmic plane to the rest of us.

I was about 3 rows back from the fence at a Dogs/Bris game at the 'Gabba 5 or 6 years ago...

The ball was right in front of us, basically where the boundary met to 50m arc.
Caleb was running from the direction of the centre circle and got to the ball first, maybe 2m in from the boundary, with a Lion very close behind.

Seemingly without looking, while facing the boundary, he did a little 6-7m outside of the foot banana/dribble kick 90 degrees back inboard, which bounced up perfectly into the arms of a Dog (I think it was M. Boyd from memory) who was running in a line toward goal.

Amazing. It was so obviously a deliberate kick, yet to this day I don't know how he possibly saw a team-mate given the angles involved.

Anyone game to post this on the Brisbane board?

That is fantastic - finally an experienced umpire has gone through methodically and documented a whole game of free kick decisions and guess what?? - looks like we were hard done by...
MMmmmmm gee wiz.
Can someone please contact the person that did that and get them to run their eye over the 2016 GF.
