the overturn of Bont’s goal was one of the worst decisions by the score reviewer I can ever think of. There was no vision at all that was conclusive that it was touched. He basically made that decision because the Brisbane player was so sure he touched it that the reviewer believed him. The ball didn’t deviate at all. That was absolute bullshit.

after the review had been going a while the commentator (not sure who) mentioned the deviation, then next second the official review came through also mentioning the deviation, exact same words - i texted a mate at the time saying the fix was in! horrible review

‘There wasn’t any deviation. The whole thing was based on Gardiners reaction. But of course they weren’t going to use that.

My point is, it isn't a stitch up.

Not sure how many times it needs to be said that I know Neale's godfather.

So brisbane denying any of it is pointless

You're conflating two completely different things. Obviously the news that Neale wants back to WA is true. That is confirmed by multiple sources. But there's no evidence that the Robinson tweet circulating isn't a stitch up.

I’ve watched the Smith goal many times today.. haha I still can’t believe that celebration hahaha!! Bloody amazing. He has genuine tickets on himself. Sometimes you need a player like that in your side. Just can’t afford too many of them!

Demands the big moments, I love it.

There was no discernible deviation of its course toward the goal but I thought the way the ball was spinning changed after it passed the Brisbane player's hand. Instead of end over end it took on a slight wobble. If anyone has the video of it perhaps you could re-check that. I haven't watched it since the live broadcast.

Whether that's what the AFL deem to be "conclusive" is another matter.

If they have to review the footage that many times it isn't conclusive

Gerard W "there was some exaggerated celebration in all of that" !!

For God's sake he's just put us in front in a cut-throat tense semi final, who'd have thought he'd be so pumped.

Here’s a thought I’ve just had re watching the game.

What is the difference between Adam’s block on weightman and Gardner on Francis?

Gardner cops a 50 and a fine so far Adam’s hasn’t even been talked about?

To be honest I hope he isn’t fined but just interesting
The difference is Weightman was contacted high, concussed and ruled out of the remainder of the game and subsequently next week also whereas Francis wasn't contacted high, took a dive, lay on the ground dead like a soccer player then jumped up fine a minute later.

How that wasn't a multiple week suspension is one of the most baffling match review calls off the year.
Is it just because the commentators missed it at the time, barely spoke about it afterwards and it got lost in the wash after the game?

What is "conclusive" and why should several viewings mean it's NOT conclusive?

Maybe they were just confirming their immediate reaction on first viewing ... which was that the ball was touched. If they don't verify that by re-playing it a few times and trying other camera angles they'll get rightly baked by the media. And if they do review it several times they get baked because "it can't be conclusive with that many viewings". They can't win!

I'm not saying the AFL is right in its approach or that this particular video review was unquestionably right. Just playing devil's advocate.

From my viewing of it I was obviously disappointed but not upset or surprised that it was overturned. I'd have been very happy for the umpire to call all clear as he could easily have done, but you know the network would then play it forensically a thousand times over and it would add to the "Brisbane were robbed" push.

I do agree they need better technology (more frames/sec or whatever) if they are going to use them for these sorts of decisions. It's understandable that fans don't have confidence in the process when all they see on their TV is a blurred image. No idea what that would cost the networks though. Probably a lot.

There's enough doubt which means the goal should have stayed

Even David King said that after the game. Tom Morris said he was surprised it was overturned and should not have been

Looks about right. McCluggage was huge but Macrae and Smith (especially his 4th quarter) the clear top two. I'd have given Cameron's vote to Rich, but it's not undeserved

No problem with any of those individuals, but 24-6 is a bit lopsided in a 1 point game. If Bris scrounged the last point of the game I strongly doubt we get all those votes.

I just love the guy standing in the aisle giving Smith the double middle finger salute...
