Just an ordinary game. With lots of extra whinging from bored trolls.
Thank you for your reply. It seemed like ordinary officiating to me too. But since I'm new I had to gauge it based on the commentators and the crowd noise - no excessive boos to the umps and no retort from the commentators. I was surprised at the other thread complaining about the officiators so much. I mean I get it, just didnt seem right to me.

Thanks again for your answer.

I'm new to the game. And what a time to pick up interest - right? That was a movie played out in real life. Amazing!

So I'm looking at the Lions forum and they're saying ump this and ref that. Now I'm really new, like really new. I do not know nuance. And some of the rules seem really silly like I think there was a review on if the other team got their fingers on a kicked ball that goes through the posts then it's no good? If so that's a stupid rule. I mean if the other team deflects an in-flight ball and it still goes through the goalposts, well sucks to be the other team cause it still went through the goalposts. Score! But you see that's nuance; I don't know nuance. Unless someone gets punched in the face I can't really say what's going on (can't punch someone in the face, right?).

So as an observer, I'm asking what was the ump/ref'ing like in this game? Obviously, a Lions fan is going to say they suck and a Dogs is going to say they're great or likely stay silent. These are going to be the same guys that will decide games that Dogs will lose too. So if anyone is really honest out there I'd like to hear it: What did you think of the ref / ump'ing this game?

Thanks.

Think this will give you a very good feel about the umpiring for the game.

Thank you - that's awesome. And I'm not a troll. But think about it - it's not like I could ask this question in the Lions forum - yeesh. So I really appreciate your response. UPDATE: Very useful post that is. Thank you.

Thank you. It is a quick game. Scrappy, I'd say. American football is like chess compared to this with the long strategies and short plays. This is definitely a rush and in that, I can see how difficult it would be to umpire. I've really appreciated the half-dozen games available on my TV in Alaska. It's the first time I've seen the Dogs - what a team!

Thank you again.

I am a big Ravens fan. NFL is very much like chess. Who do you follow?

The Ravens have a game upcoming against the Raiders next week, I think. Las Vegas Raiders - that just sounds so wrong since they've been the Oakland Raiders since the Stone Age. Should be a good game.

I follow Broncos. I follow Miami and Seattle too since I have family there.

There was no discernible deviation of its course toward the goal but I thought the way the ball was spinning changed after it passed the Brisbane player's hand. Instead of end over end it took on a slight wobble. If anyone has the video of it perhaps you could re-check that. I haven't watched it since the live broadcast.

Whether that's what the AFL deem to be "conclusive" is another matter.
All of that does not matter. It was brought in to aid goal-line situations. This was a field umpire's call no different to the missed in the back to Vandermeer.
It was not brought in to check the work of poor field umpiring.

What would it actually take for credit to be given to the Dogs? Do we need to win with 0 free kicks won?? Every win recently apparently is ONLY due to umpiring.

So frustrating to continually see all the Bulldog bashing. Especially after such an epic win. Taken the wind out of my sails.
Don't let em have a win we won the game on merit. We had the gonads too get the job done not hope that things fall our way.
Haters going to hate don't give them the time of day

They should be the LA Raiders.

Broncs aren’t bad but they have to face Mahones. That isn’t easy, but you would know that.

I follow the Packers as my second team, as most of my friends in Australia are cheeseheads.

It’s his lack of physicality for mine that worries me. And maybe a lack of footy IQ. Couple times last night he had the ball on the ground and would just tap it out.. to the opposition. When he could have just held it in for a stoppage.
Fair point he does need a rocket up his butt but I still would have him ahead of Sweet

i dont get it, if we can afford to not play Young for most of the second half, why not risk Martin?

Martin must be absolutely cooked, its the only reason that makes sense
It was a response to circumstances which allowed Young to be rested by choice rather than necessity. We also now have another big game where Young will put time into taking some of the sting out of Ports rucks.
Timmy was holding his own and it was a golden opportunity for man management should we make it through to not totally flatten Young.
Takes a lot of energy to be a battering ram when you are undersized 😉

Double dagger to all the sooks this week. AFL ticks off our game and Razor gets the flick (apparently hes the only one who doesn’t like us)

He was the one reaming us against Port. He’s just a shit umpire.

In the other game on the weekend there was a ball up and someone basically got molested right in front of him and wasn’t calling anything, an umpire further away called the free kick as it was that obvious.

I don’t know what he’s trying to be, but it ain’t it.

He's a classic narcissist. Gotta make himself the person that everyone talks about and comes across as a condescending prick to the players. A good umpire is someone that you don't notice, a bad umpire is the only thing you notice.

Listen to him occasionally on SEN. I must be a masochist.

anyways, he is always saying me, my or I. Very happy with himself.

So there’s a port fan supposedly posting medical records, who apparently has form on it. Potentially related to Bont but thankfully the port mods got there first.

disgraceful conduct by whoever it was anyway. I’d hope anyone here wouldn’t stoop that low

I am sceptical of these family issues claims

Seems to me it’s a convenient excuse, it’s not like he is contracted for 10 it’s only another 2

Having kids is hard without good support. IF she is isolated and feels she needs more support, then they must move.
What I question is the decision making to move to QLD in the first place. Why not stay in WA and not move to QLD in the first place.
