Autopsy Dogs take revenge for last year’s Elimination Final - 118 to 69 (Not Nice)

Wasn't a great night but some good signs for the future;

  • Jackson is going to be a megastar once he holds his marks
  • Johnson showed some good things, is likely to be that big-bodied mid we're clamouring for. Great delivery and looked strong at times. Keep getting games into him.
  • Sturt is a natural forward, got to stay in the side.

Our major issues were midfield getting beaten again (also exacerbated by the number of missed tackles - though this also speaks to being outmuscled) and a lack of chemistry. Both will take time (rest of this season at least), but I think we have most of the components. No point getting too despondent.

I tried to #eco a few weeks ago, I really did. But after one rousing come from behind win they sucked me back in. Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in.

- So proud to support a club that put in yet another shit the bed performance in prime time, to the point that the commentators resorted to talking about f**king grass. Though to be fair, I also wanted to switch over to the grass growing channel with 15 minutes to go. I'm usually steadfast to the end of every game looking for every little positive I can, but I'm so over this shit that I spent the most of the last qtr barely paying attention.

- But also, f**k the commentators. You could have put me in the commentary box and I couldn't have been as biased towards Freo as they were to the Dogs. We already suffer the ignominious fate of being Freo supporters, do they have to heap extra misery on us by putting cheerleaders for the opposition on commentary?

- Also you could have put me umpiring in Freo's F50 and I still would have struggled to pull out as many soft I50 frees as the Dogs got. Talk about playing the game on easy mode.

- Pearce is just painful to watch atm. He looks like a scared baby giraffe on rollerskates.

- JOM is just a nothing player. Not terrible, not good. He's the personification of 2023 Freo who do nothing exciting and play boring, nothing football.

- I don't see anything in Wagner. For every one good thing he does there is 3 bad.

- Please don't ever take Amiss off, especially after he's just kicked a goal. I have nothing to look forward to as a Freo supporter other than brief glimpses of class from him. He's my entire reason for living this year.

- Despite all this I remain optimistic that this is just a down year from a young group after overachieivng last year. It just sucks so much that after looking forward to this season all summer, all life and joy has been sucked out of it in little over a month.

If Jackson starts holding all those marks he gets his hands too then he’ll be some kind of player.

JOM has been really underwhelming and we really struggle with our spread from contests when he’s in the midfield.

Easy too forget just how young we actually are, not an excuse but we did have some good periods in the game
JOM should never play midfield. I don’t give a flying fu(k about stats. He is far too weak in the contest.

After over running one of the bottom teams in the last quarter last week I managed to sustain a whole week of delusion that we were a reasonably good team. I did have to bat away some intrusive rational thoughts in that time but was successful in the main. A few thoughts......

The commentary team at the start of the game indicated that we were the only team to have lost all five first quarters this year. We then lost the sixth. Could this indicate anything about our pre game attitude or am I just being paranoid.

Quite interesting - at half time the coverage panned to the rooms and showed both teams being talked to. In the bulldogs room it seemed quite a number of the players couldn't keep still. They were fidgeting - a clear sign of adrenaline. The dockers players were all still and passive as if they we attending a boring monday morning uni lecture. Maybe we got them at a bad time.

They looked like a team well drilled who knew where there teammates were going to be and knew where to go. We looked like a team who had just met in the car park before the game. Perhaps not that bad but they were far more coordinated in their ball movement from the midfield to ...well basically all over the ground.

Don't know whats wrong with Pearce but it could be that the captaincy is affecting his game. It can happen with extra pressure especially when the team is performing poorly.

Age is the only thing that makes me optimistic

We can’t play footy but we’re young enough that someone competent maybe able to teach them

Delist Hughes. Drop Banfield. Drop Wagner.

Bring in Worner, Wilson and erasmus/treacy.

Tell JL if he doesn't ******* show some emotion he can * off too.
Omg enough with the Hughes slander. He was very good in the first half but fell off alongside every other player. His two I50 deliveries were beautiful to watch.

I will say Sturt impressed with his leading and fight for the ball, while Serong and Darcy were the only two who consistently fought for at least three quarters. Hughes showed something tonight as well.

Luke Ryan played the worst 25 kick game in history.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. He is vying to be the AFL dreamteam champ this year and has his eyes on a new HILUX. He and Pearce have been woeful

Yeah that last quarter was like watching the last quarter of some team you don't care about piling the goals on Gold Coast. It just became background noise at one point.

Season over. I was actually hopeful tonight that we might have turned a corner last week but that was diabolical.

We just seem so utterly listless & rudderless.
Our incredible defense from last year has vanished. Pearce is a liability, Ryan too cautious & what is the point of all our running defenders when they’re too scared to run or attack the corridor with aggressive kicking.

Our midfield is hopeless, O’Meara is a bust.

Most of all the players seem to have lost their confidence and cohesion. We’re playing frightened & gutless football.

Get O’Meara out for Erasmus. Get NOD back. Most of all get some dare back. Throw the game plan out. Start moving the ball with some speed & courage.

Throw out all our kick in strategy & start again. Get Clark, Walker, Young running the ball. Chains of handball & attack the corridor. Our D50 exits are the worst in the comp.

It’s pathetic. I actually don’t care if we sack JL at this point. We’re close to the worst team in the comp now. Drop Pearce, Ryan. Try something, anything. It’s a joke.
