DONT TRADE CARLTONS PICK

Not a snowflake's chance in Hades Collingwood accept less than Pick 1 alone for a contracted Brodie Grundy....and probably they will want more than that.

If talks head in that direction then best move on. Look at other options for trading pick 1 or if have eyes set on a player use it.

Probably not. The 2020 draft looks great for South AustraIians.

That being said - trade 1 and 28 to GWS for 7 and 14, and trade 7 and 2020 first for Lukosius and Rankine? THAT I'd do.
1 is worth 7 and 14 without 28 . Actually probably not even enough as there is a gap after the first two this year apparently

why trade with them when next year they get nothing

Guys, the last time the National Draft Pick #1 was traded was back in 2001. It is VERY unlikely to happen again anytime soon.

Having said that, the Hawks arguably established their 4-premiership winning dynasty on the back of that trade! Hodge & Mitchell anyone??

One might argue that 2019's National Draft Pick #1 has already been traded :p

Am I correct in saying this is likely to be our highest pick ever? I mean our highest pick was what, 7 or 8 or something? So unless Carlton rise 7 spots up the ladder this will be the highest pick in our history.

We have to use it. Cannot trade it away. If you have an argument against it, I’d like to hear it.

We have never had pick 1, we have had a top end pick before, but not from finishing position. And the last time we had a pick that high, we traded it. For Carey.

The only argument I'd have against it is what we did with those previous "best" single-digit draft picks :p

2000 (pick 7): Laurence Angwin
2004 (pick 8): John Meesen

I think we got a total of 2 games out of those 2 players, both of them played by John Meesen.

But I'd like to think our drafting these days is much better than it was back then. Ogilve has enough runs on the board that I'd trust him with pick 1. Although I'd also trust his judgement - if he says that he reckons that if we turn that into a handful of early draft picks then he can pluck 2 or 3 guns instead of 1, then I'd also trust him to make that call.

Since Carlton like pick 1 so much, id be trying to trade it back to them for cripps.

Tap him up nice and good now and let's see if Carlton can hold their nerve.

When was the last time Pick 1 was held by a team not at the bottom of the ladder?

It's unprecedented - teams keep Pick 1 because they really need the talent - cos they can't win games

(That's why we should keep it, IMO)

Yeah but they traded it in, not out.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. At the time through, everyone thought Freo did a great job. They got a young promising KPP who was taken at pick 12 in McPharlin and at the time the hottest young KPP prospect in the AFL whom everyone had penciled in for superstardom in Croad.

For various reasons, Croad (who did not want to go to Freo) didn't work out for the Dockers but at the time everyone was raving how Freo did exceptionally well to get Croad and McPharlin to add to an already impressive young KPP duo in Pavlich and Justin Longmuir.

Hawks made two of the 3 picks count and its even arguable then whether they selected the best player from the draft with pick 1.

Only the Crows and Rowey would be dumb enough to entertain trading Pick 1 for a guy that we can get for free at the end of next year.

The Crows have to be smart and realise that we're not winning a flag anytime soon so if Grundy is gettable then the best outcome would be using Pick 1 and then getting Grundy as a free agent at the end of 2020.
100% !

So Carlton and Teague need to avoid losing by 77 points to win the Biggest Loser with a Caretaker Coach.

Alternatively from a Club level they need to avoid losing by more than 60pts, Carlton do set high standards.

Totally forgot Bicks took us to a Showdown win in 2011.

Seeing Ben Allan's name has jogged my memory about something I heard a while back.

That in the early days of the Dockers he was the highest paid player in the AFL.

Higher than Carey, Buckley, Harvey, Grant etc.

Not sure if true
