First time two different players from the same Club have won the coleman or top goalkicker medal in successive years?

Albert Thurgood and Fred Hiskins did it with * in 1900 and 1901. Only other times it’s happens.

McKay/Curnow is the 3rd time this has happened.

Weirdly, despite, having to go back 121 years to the previous occasion (Thurgood/Hiskins as RPCB mentions above), prior to that, you only have to go back ONE year for the next occurrence!

Eddy James (1899) and Teddy Lockwood (1900) from Geelong were the first to do it. Lockwood tied with with Thurgood in 1900 to set up the feat in successive years.

Note, of course, that these first two occurrences were simply "leading goalkickers" - the Coleman medal didn't come into being until 1955 after Coleman retired. So really, you can say that McKay/Curnow are the first consecutive Coleman Medal winners from the same club, but it's a little misleading :)

Just thought I would share a lovely little story that was revealed last night.

First the background.

Daryl Gilmore played one game for the Blues in 1983.

In an article from 2006 "Mike and Dan" interviewed Daryl.

An excerpt from that article.

In one sense, Gilmore returned to Bendigo somewhat empty-handed – a great Bendigo career, solid performances in Carlton’s reserves, and an impressive return from his one and only foray at VFL / AFL senior level, yet only the 1 game to his name. He returned to Bendigo empty-handed in another sense as well. “I came back to Bendigo without my jumper, the #40. Someone told me when you leave, you get your jumper. I ended up getting Scott Howell’s number, who moved from #40 to #12, or #10, and it was an old AVCO jumper. That jumper would be nice to have”.

Now, some 23 years later, it may be hard to find Gilmore’s #40 guernsey. But it would somehow seem fitting for the jumper to be returned to Daryl, if only to show it to the 150,000 people who proclaimed to have seen his 3 goals in the drizzle.

Fast forward 16 years and a gentleman named Scott Darlow was looking through a Castlemaine thrift shop and found what looked like an old Carlton Guernsey.

After taking it home he noticed the number 40 on the back and decided to research the guernsey, discovering it most likely belonged to Daryl Gilmore. He tracked down Daryl at nearby Bendigo and then this happened....

Simply amazing!!

Saw this on TikTok. Daryl was amazed and absolutely pumped to get his jumper back. Also looked in good nick old Dazz and could still fit into his jumper. The young fella that found it is a legend (and not even a Carlton supporter) for bringing it back to him.

Scott posted here on the Carlton board a few days back looking for assistance in tracking the owner. Good story all round.

Thanks, I'll have a look for it.

This is the thread:
I'm thinking late 70's.

Pretty sure the AVCO logo changed to white in the 80's.
