Where is Tommy Two-face getting his information from? It’s been mentioned many times that he’s persona non grata with the AFL so who’s leaking this? I’d be very surprised if we asked for a priority pick at the top of the draft there’s no way we’d get that.

Fk me we really are in a different bracket of importance arent we. Other clubs get pick 1 or 2, we end up with a worse record and get pick 19. What a joke.
I know the rules have changed since, but Collingwood got start of first round priority in 2005, 2 years after making the grand final. The AFL changing their approach after what they gave the suns only a few years ago is a joke too. North really just don't matter at all to them

Let's see, 11 isn't off the cards until its off the cards. 19 is a big difference though. I still think we can package combinations of 14, 19, F1 F2 to bolster our position significantly

So next year if we finish 4th last we could a draft hand of 4,19 (End of 1st PP), 23, 24 (2nd round PP).

Depending if we're happy with our picks this year we'll be in a great spot next year to upgrade picks with teams that have Father-son or Academy coming through.

Im getting whiplash from reading the reddit reaction of this "oh my god they've given them so much what bullshit" to the expectations in here that Laura Kane was going to be some sort of sleeper agent and secure us the first 5 picks of the next 5 drafts.

11 isn't a late 1st round pick, it's a mid pick.
True but its about dampening expectations. 11 and 19 x 2 years is pretty fair if they dont want to compromise the top end talent with PPs anymore.
11 doesnt effect the teams who missed the 8 and 19 doesnt effect any clubs first.
This sort of compo shouldnt happen too often so its not that big of a deal to other clubs and its certainly not going to encourage clubs to totally tank out.

Just more evidence the AFL has favourites. The assistance for Gold Coast 4 years ago
1st pick, and start of second… mid first round in the next draft, first pick of the second round the draft after that.
Added acedemys.

North as historically bad side asks for access to Saunders. Pre list would be to much. Scratch that matching a bid would be to much. Pick 11 prob to much. End of first this year maybe and same next year. That should fix the problem.

Wait till they go after McKay compo.

So we aimed high which was good.
‘Give us a top 3 pick’

Most likely knowing they’re going to say no, and they’re going to get McKay compo at that pick.

So the AFL can’t give out a top pick and they won’t let us have same access to sanders (which is just crazy and hard to understand)

So they ultimately give us a pick that could be used to trade to GC for Sanders to keep the masses happy?

I’ll be one of the level heads on this board. They clearly aren’t handing us the world or any club for that matter. The discourse surrounding PPs has changed. Receiving this assistance isn’t amazing, but will be serviceable in helping us improve. If we use these picks like good clubs would to draft top talent that can appear in the second round, we will be ok.

Yeah It's worth remembering Dees and Blues had their submissions knocked back but admittedly they had already had PPs before and had either tanked (Dees) or been too public with their "deep cut" rebuild which the AFL hates as it loses generational support.
Worth noting this is just a recommendation so the commission and Gil could still screw us over lol.
I'd also agree with Hodge in that compo and PP shouldn't be related but clearly the AFL does relate them in decisions. If McKay had stayed I reckon a higher compo pick might have been on the table.

Holding judgement on all this until we see what gets finalised and what we do with those pick/s.

Through nothing more than gut feel, I felt last years’ assistance revolved around:

North: We need some help
AFL: You need “win now” mature players, what trade targets have you got in the works
North: We’re in talks with Freo/Logue/Tucker
AFL: We’ll get back to you with what they’ll take to get that done

If we get enough to:

  • trade into a pick range that would land Sanders, and/or
  • enough to satisfy WC for Reid, or
  • take a scattershot approach to the first round

I won’t be whinging too loudly.
