Draft Pick 1 & 2. Which combo?

In the TAC cup future stars show today... they had a demo of the Phantom draft and kevin Sheenan seems to think we will pick Scully and Trengrove and Butcher will slip to pick 6 for Richmond.... But who knows?

Interesting some have questioned Trengroves loyalty in being a SA boy.

Also interesting Scully is a die hard Richmond supporter, he might come back over to the tigers in a few years . That would make me happy, very happy :D.

Anyway without a true examination of your list perhaps Scully and the best young ruckman may be the answer to your first couple of selections.

Richmond will likely take either Butcher, Panos, Vardy or Tapscott to solve our forward line problems post Richo.

Sorry TigerTom, but Scully will love playing at the Demons with former Vic metro teammates Watts, Grimes, Blease and Strauss.

For what its worth, I reckon Butcher will end up at Tigerland.

I'm in the Scully & Trengove camp.

The comparisions are that they are similar players to Cousins & Riccuito. Whilst it doesn't guarantee they will end up being stars both of them look to be pretty smart players. Coupled with the fact that they are regarded as quality young men & have leadership qualities, I think they are the ideal selections to lead us up the ladder to become true contenders in the years to come.

As I said earlier, I did go for Scully and Butcher, but, I'm slowly swinging towards Trengove due to the comparisons with Bartel and Riccuito. I still do rate Butcher but some of the comparisons with the Goose himself are a little worrying. HOWEVER, I still find the forward line a little weak and in a few years THIS wouldn't in my opinion quite be good enought to win a flag.

Aussie Watts Petterd
Bate Jurrah Martin
or whatever slight changes you make to it.

The thing about Jurrah is, once other teams find out about what he does best, they can go off this pre-season and develop a way to stop him. This is why I think Bailey and the coaching staff are being good about leaving him out, they gave us a taste to get us excited but they haven't given us enough to see what he's all about. He might come back for Carlton/St Kilda to try draw a few extra crowdwise but he also might be given the off-season to develop and round his game so that we can keep the others guessing, because he is the key to us hoisting ourselves off the bottom in 2010. The comments by Bailey about letting him play his way are a little worrying but could have been to put the others of guard. But if they weren't and bails was being honest than the WW definetely got injured at the right time

Biggest load of crap I've read on here for a while.

Though Scully comes from Vic metro, playing with players who played there a couple of years before him would make much of a difference. If I started work with someone who went to the same high school as me and was a few years my senior I would not care that much.

But however it is very rare for a player to change to a club that he supported before playing AFL. Brendon Goddard was supposedly a huge Carlton supporter and there was rumour and speculation that he would bide his time at the Saints until he has an opportunity to go to Carlton. Dispite him having a chance with the Pre-season draft and Carlton winning a few wooden spoons he has stayed with the Saints. The only examples of players changing clubs that I can think of (due to them supporting them before their AFL career) are Kane Johnson and Nathan Buckley.

Anyway I would be very happy if we got John Butcher.

thats your opinion I suppose

but it couldn't be the worst thing you've seen in the last hour let alone a while:rolleyes:

see (its actually been deleted now) 'The Jew Todd Golspein' thread on the main board

You haven't got the picks yet. I have heard whispers the AFL will be scruitinising the game next week against Fremantle for any "irregularities" and may consider an investigation and possible draft sanctions.

Still if I was a Dees supporter I would be pretty happy to add Scully and Trengrove to your list next year. You will be a force in a few years if you can get the best out of your recent recruiting:thumbsu:

Sorry I will take that back. I still think what you've written is rubbish, but it was reasonably coherent and had some degree of thought to it so I've gone a bit over the top. Sounds like I've missed a ripper thread.

It is a really tough call. Looking at Trengove's recent form in the SANFL, he is playing really well, and seems to possess a lot of the qualities we could use in the midfield. After reading all of the comparisons, and based on what I've seen, I think Bartel is a very suitable comparison, although Jack doesn't have the camp hairstyle :D

Scully is a certainty as he has everything you could really want. He is a bit of a mix between Sylvia and Cousins for mine, and should be a great player for the club (assuming we acquire him).

Another positive is the fact that both of these boys seem to have great attitudes and work ethics, which is something I think the club should look for in all draftees. If we do want to achieve great things, we need these sorts of guys at the club, as they can only shape the club's culture in a positive fashion. This is something which worries me about Butcher, but he is still an interesting prospect nonetheless.

Butcher kicked 5 goals in his last game in the TAC Cup. One thing that needs to be remembered is that the delivery and structure in the U 18 is not always suited to a forward and often they get under estimated.

Yeah, as I said, it's a tough call. I've been hoping we would select Butcher for most of the season, but Trengove has really stepped up and shown a lot both in the Championships and at club level.

I think that either of them will be great for the club, as Butcher would add another focal point up forward, whereas Trengove would probably complete our midfield (in conjunction with Scully).

I would like Butcher but just read a old article where BP commented on JT, so the most likely event is we get Scully and JT.

EDIT:
GIPPSLAND POWER star John Butcher played his first senior game for MAFFRA on Saturday. Widely tipped to be a certain first-round pick in this year’s AFL draft, the tall forward-ruckman impressed with his athleticism, hauling in a dozen marks and kicking a goal. Butcher wore jumper number 11, the same number his father Wayne, a triple best and fairest winner with Eagles wore in more than 250 games.

Did he say anything specific about Jack?

I just remember reading that he considered him in the top group of draft prospects for this season, but if he said something more specific it would probably give a greater indication of his perception on Trengove.

What are the chances of a good tall remaining for pick 18? Not Butcher or Panos or maybe even Tapscott, but maybe someone like Vardy or even Talia (any others?)? Given that talls take longer to develop, guys like these may have more upside than another so-so mid at 18.

I'm still holding out some hopes for Rohan at 2 because of the "X-factor" with better ball use than Morabito, but as time goes on it's looking more & more like Trengove. My only reservation about Trengove is that he sounds fairly "workmanlike" (if that makes any sense), and we might be better off to get a mid with more flair. So, completely contradicting what I've said in the first para, what are the chances of Rohan being still around at 18? Or Lewis Jetta?

Rohan will probably go top 10, and almost certainly not to us. Jetta should still be around for our second pick though, and is definitely one to consider.

Lol, what a load of sh*t, as if the AFL is going to have an investigation that might find the competition is compromised, and then be open to legal action from betting agencies as a consequence. :D
Having said that, your rabble need priority picks more than us, 'cause you're going to stink the leauge up for the next 10 years :D
