Jurrah... Struggle... I don't think so. Jurrah has freakish ability, he can be a KPP but with Watts and the other's by his side, he may not have to. Don't count him out, he's full of surprises.

Edit: I know he probably hasn't fully mastered the art yet but, after watching that Scully video, does anyone else see a little bit of Gary Ablett(Jr) in him? He seems to have the same sorta mold and game style. The way he runs to space and how quick he is to dispose of the footy. Look's very promising.

Gary Ablett-esque work in close, Ben Cousins like gut running, but unfortunately his kicking is not near either.

I have just spent half an hour or so going through their respective videos on youtube.

I must say Butcher looks impressive. Fantastic hands, the ball just doesn't come out when he gets both hands to it! Ungainly kick, but reasonably accurate and something that can be improved a little over time.

Scully looked like a machine, a real ball magnet who would be, barring disaster, at worst, a solid, 200 game player for any club.

Trengove looked just as good as Scully, the way he moved and his work in the packs, not to mention marking power for a midfielder, was top notch.

Any of these players will be guns for us for years and years.

I think I voted in this poll for the two mids, but looking at needs, I think I'm changing my mind towards Scully and Butcher. But in all honesty would be happy with any of them.

I think by not drafting Butcher and Hoping for Panos, leaves us in absolute trouble. Panos could go pick 12, or there abouts for all we know. Last thing we want to do is then draft a KPF, who would go about 30 odd with pick 18. Drafting Butcher not just because he is KPF, but he is the best, allows us to draft the best players later in the draft rather than searching on needs. I can not believe people who think our forward line is in good shape!
We have 3-4 forwards , and a bunch of players who rotate through. Are points for in the 2nd worst in the competition. Yes we break down across HF, but if we have nobody presenting or to kick to thats going to happen alot. Our mids are not really goal kickers (yes Sylvia,Davey, Jetta do but Brock, Jones & Jnr are not). Butcher would straighter us up for 10 years. He is a proven bag kicker. This is no way JT, bashing it would be great to have pick 3 aswell hell even pick 8 , for Rohan, but i think Butcher has runs on the board and people seemed to base there analysis on Butcher on 2-3 games this year.

RANT OVER.

I think we will get a much better idea of who we are going to select once trade week is over.

If we trade for a midfielder who is unhappy at their club or not reaching their potential i.e. a danyle pearce or a daniel wells (someone like them)

than it will be more likely to draft Butcher.
However we have never been to active in trade week over the years and i dont think there are many key forwards we could trade for as quality big men are not easy to find.

I know id be rapt to get one of ports midfielders and Mark Williams has hinted at some major list changes.

Id welcome with open arms pearce or salopek. Would be a step above a nathan jones type player

1 and 2. Our forward line could always be better of course but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

For the purpose of 2010 we could line up like this.

H/F: Petterd/Dunn Miller Bate
F: Wonaeamirri/Maric Watts Jurrah

Miller may be of some use as a lead up CHF instead of playing closer to goal like he had been this year. He was quite useful when he pushed up ground and if consistently given a chance up forward Dunn would provide an excellent target.

Honestly I'd back that forward line over the one down at Geelong if they both had the same delivery any day of the week.

3. How can you say that people "seemed" to be making their analysis of Butcher over 2-3 games? They may note that he had a poor U/18's carnival but that doesn't necessarily mean that's all they are judging him on.

I will cry if Brad Miller is a starting forward for us in 2010.

I doubt he will be.

I was going to go this way but people would have scoffed at it straight away:

H/F: Petterd/Dunn Bate Watts
F: Wonaeamirri/Maric Newton Jurrah

I really do think Newton is worth persisting with but people have written him off already I didn't think it was worth mentioning. He's shed the lazy tag that he had last year and a summer of goal kicking would do him the world of good, his tackling, chasing and presenting have all improved this season and there is no reason to suggest he can't continue to improve other aspects of his game.

So I just watched Scully and Trengove highlights vids. Links on demonland - they're from SA v VIC Metro

Scully looks light even against U18's but with his endurance, pace and clean hands should be able to play early next year. However we shouldn't expect a Rich like season from him, I think we will still have to be careful to manage him especially because from all reports on his committment he'll be training the house down. He'll need the breaks put on I believe. I also think some work on his tackling before he gets to AFL level wouldn't hurt.

Trengove is a more solid lad. Very agressive, very strong in the air and over the ball. Also a great tackler. Whilst he could take time to adjust to the speed of AFL level, he could also come out and be Selwood like.

The one decision must be whether you gamble on a tall, or a more outside mid, or someone with x factor like Rohan or go with what points towards two fantastic midfielders. I'm happy with Trengove, because why gamble when he seems to have all the tools. The argument would be to take Butcher because talls can break open games, compared to players like Nath Jones who might not be able to. But dominant midfielders with great skills and determination can as well - See Hodge, Selwood, even Brock McLean won us a final!

after being a Trengove fan for quite some time i'm starting to go back to Butcher...don't know why but i feel like he's the right player.

would still love Trengove though. lets get some trades happening for pick 3

dez have u watched butcher play live ive seen him 7 times bigger stronger than watts and runs sub 3 sec as watts does if u have not watched him play dont comment on what u hear

Butcher and Trengove. Scully IMO is WAY over-hyped, has got slow sprint speed despite his huge engine and struggles on his non-dominant side. I've also heard he has a reputation for a bit of a partyboy who loves a night on the booze. Scully is definitely a top 5 selection, but top 2 I don't think so. Now can someone send this info to the Melbourne recruiters so they can make an informed decision?
...
...Nah, seriously Scully is a gun who I would love to see at Richmond. You won't go wrong with him IMO.

you are completely wrong I know Scully through a mate and he is very much the opposite, he has been working tremendously for a AFL career since he was 12. SO get your facts right.
