Realistically Richmond won’t bid they probably received more from Brisbane to stop any scenario they bid. Gut feeling he’s bid on at 3, whether it’s 1 or 3 makes little difference in the scheme of things. GC got a few last year for way unders too

Honestly, I don't think the pick swap between Richmond and Brisbane was that good for Richmond.

They paid a LOT of points for pick 20, and probably could/should have done better....but they were all junk picks to Richmond, and they were probably exhausted by the end of trade week with all the deals they'd made so didn't care that Brisbane was getting the better of the deal.

But really, it doesn't matter, and it's probably realistic to assume that a deal was done on bids.

Pretty sure it was the deal we did

I agree, but really, all clubs would want to get competing clubs to pay as much as possible (after all, they're COMPETING ), so if Brisbane will pay #2, then they'll try to get a bid done at 2 just to ensure maximum points are paid.
Have you thought it through. Anything taken from Brisbane gets redistributed amongst Richmond's other competitors.

There's more than one competing club. Brisbane lose a couple more of their picks in the 40s at a point in the draft well after Richmond have gone home. No actual value is taken out of the draft. The other picks after them move up becoming slightly more valuable. The same players are still on the board. They just get distributed a bit differently between the other 17 clubs. If Brisbane lose out by missing someone they would have been able to take at the back end of the draft, a different competitor gains by drafting him.

Any picks after 24 or whatever the first is in the second round are useless to Richmond they won’t use them. Was all about getting picks inside the second round. Junk seconds/thirds were useless to them not to Brisbane both parties got what they wanted

This would be great for us.
Not so good for the other 2.
Still not as bad as other trades I've seen.

In this scenario North effectively trades 2 and most likely a top 5 for 7 and 15.. They get shafted here.

Saints end up with a reasonable haul a top 5 pick for 7 and 32 which is a good trade except they want more picks in this draft.

We make out like bandits. Hope it happens.
I said later picks need to come into play to even if our but I feel on reflection (and as pointed out by others) North probably need to get your pick 21 as well.

I believe he is cat b. AFL approved another 1 year extension due to his injuries
That was last year that Colina extended (4th year) as a Cat B rookie.
He will be relisted as a Cat A rookie. Therefore Richmond can only pick a maximum of 7 players in the draft.

Borderline would be the dumbest list move we have ever made but we might be getting another exemption. He hasn’t been able to play for 2 years so I think the injury exemption will be extended.

If Richmond applied for an additional extension, the decision has already been made. He's been delisted. He can't be re-added as a Cat B, as he no longer qualifies.

Can't you just promote cat B to cat A. Seems so odd that we would delist him and then draft him again

You can only take as many picks into the draft as you have list spots. If he was currently on the list, you wouldn't be able to take pick 24 into the draft and would have to trade it out now. It gives you a fake list spot.

Heaps of clubs delist and then re-rookie playets. Usually for extra matching points - Brisbane have got two they've delisted and are going to re-draft or to have 6 rookies as it's better for your salary cap - we've got two that we're shifting from the main list to rookie list.

Cheers. Always thought you were allowed an extra couple of picks beyond list spots hence I was confused.

Was the old rules they tightened it a few years ago when teams would have 12 picks and only 7 spots. Was common in academy F/S and NGA bidding

No will have to be a Cat A rookie. I wasn't keen on retaining him based on his injuries.
As he is the last player picked on the list it is not a major issue.

I think it was just the first year of matching, when the AFL hadn't thought it through and clubs obviously had thought it though to match more cheaply.

One of the he years we had 3 or 4 good academy players we traded for points and took I'm heaps of picks. This was closed

The more I look at the draft talent all the way to pick 40, it seems so even. Especially from pick 15 to 40.

Makes no sense for my team the Hawks to pay ridiculous overs to move from Pick 33. Only for a true Top 15 slider would we consider that.

At Pick 33 we will have enough options. Surely one of Sims, Gerryn, Mraz, Barrat, Oliver, Davis etc will be available. So any trade deals that includes pick 33 means other side are not losing out much as this draft is quite equal from 15-35 or so.

I would assume the same feeing for other's who have pick in 20's and 30's. Tigers dreams of teams throwing up F1's to get their pick 18-24 is quite likely to get dashed.

Best one was when we did the sneaky deal with WCE when the Blakey bid happened got him and then traded back in to get Rowbottom lol

You're like draft hackers - always one step ahead of the AFL security.

I liked GC last year - everyone talking about one big trade for their prized early pick - menawhile they just traded it down a couple of spots at a go accumulating a ridiculously big price for it.

Think after this year they have got it bang on it’s just really annoying GC can pillage the draft last year and this year for 2c in the dollar. For years they have overrated picks outside pick 35.

Was hilarious when it happened still is but what do you expect the AFL and their wisdom not thinking how it would operate teams are silly if they don’t try and get around the rules within the parameters of course
