Na I don’t mind it from Port they are one team that needs a few. 13 or 16 it doesn’t make a lot of difference

I would assume there would be some preliminary talks before the draft night, especially for the high end picks?
For example if North want to trade out Pick 2, they would know before draft night what that deal is likely to be and may have even unofficially accepted it?

No sooking at all, it seems you fail to understand that Pre-2012 assistance picks were automatic, based on games won over a 2 year period. Since 2012 clubs have had to request (beg for) assistance.
Since 2012, just 10 assistance picks have been granted and half (5) of those were gifted in the 2022 - 2024 drafts to the NM Beggaroos.
I would be highly embarrassed if WCE went begging for assistance.
Simple facts are that the AFL for years have propped up NM financially, now they're propping them up on field too
Right so it was ok to lay down and beg by not winning games but trying to win games and asking for help is different??
If you think the late junk picks we got was anything like the pick you got for Judd then you're having a laugh.
If financial helps is embarrassing - give your club a call and ask them to hand back the 11 million dollars the AFL gave them last year.

Yes, but then clubs may even better those deals while the draft is live and they get itchy feet.

Bizarre that someone would criticise the Anderson trade. It was linked to the Bastinac trade and when combined we absolutely killed it.
Bastinac, 15, 55, F3 for Jed, 17, 26. Especially when we used 17 on McKay, who got turned into pick 3, and Hawthorn used 15 on Ryan Burton, who became steak knives.

Every club has had a few bad ones you aren’t alone. The Stephens one last year wasn’t great either. Really like the two you did this year though love the Daniel trade

Personally I hate the Daniel trade. Not the player, he'll be useful, but WB didn't want him and we should have paid in future picks or walked. Losing our second rounder has compromised our draft hand and trading position.
I think that the Stephens trade in itself was fine, we gave up stuff all. The issue is the length of contract we offered. And I don't really understand how we identified Dyl as a player of any value.

Sometimes you accept fraction overs to get a guy in, is Daniels the right one who knows but he’ll allow McKercher to move further into the middle.
Stephens was a shocking draft choice from us unfortunately just add it to our horrid first round selections

Take particular note of the loss you would have incurred from 2017 - 2020 without the AFL's "variable" (prop-up) funding. I don't believe assistance picks should ever be given as it just bails out clubs for poor list management decisions. My motto is you f$%k it up, you fix it.
Yes clubs certainly did tank which was the precise reason they changed the rules in 2012.
Fact remains, to get assistance picks now you have to beg for them, which is precisely what NM did. I'm glad the WCE didn't stoop to that level!
Port are definitely going tall.
