I don't know what we are thinking, but I know what we have done every time in the past. We have always gone best available, even when I've thought it against our interests to. This year we seem willing to drop two or three spots, but not four or five. To me that suggests we think we will get the same or a similar quality player at 5 as at 2, but not at 6 or 7. It doesn't suggest we are targeting Tauru, because we could drop down further and take him there. I would much rather we took Tauru at 4 than take a mid there, because it means we are less likely to do something stupid with our F1. I just don't think that is the plan.
And if what I posted above is correct.

He won’t be there at 6/7/8/9 etc

So sliding down to 4 makes complete sense.

I know everyone including myself is in love with these mids and we all think they are the piece that elevates our clubs.

But it’s likely, North, Melbourne, Richmond and Stkilda are all taking BPA - which could very well be Tauru for any of our clubs. Especially with how he performed in the run home to the year playing both key back and key forward.

Fair enough

But why not just use pick 8 also
Because we have been linked heavily at times with all of:

Allan Armstrong Lindsay Reid Travaglia Shanahan and Trainor

ASWELL as being very public that pick 8 is up for grabs and we want 3 first round picks.

So splitting it would likely get us 2 of those players. Not 1 and the trade off would be we are happy to take what’s left not who we prioritise as they are so even.

I'll be surprised but happy enough if you are right. We shall see.

Stavro#4 obviously thinks GWS will roll over and hand the Saints picks 15 and 16.

IF the draft is so even why would they do that?
And also who are gws that keen on that they think would outweigh just taking blokes at 15 and 16

Pick 8 I reckon is where the next rung of players starts

Perhaps. I haven’t heard you are all in on FOS though. Perhaps it’s the common denominator of looking to trade down to 4 or 6 and your liking of Tauru that links him there.

Not sure why you’d be mucking around looking to trade down if you were all in on FOS. Just keep pick two, don’t seek any trade downs and pick the bloke there.

It would be a decent play, but considering Norths reported behaviour in seeking a trade down, I’m not sure if it points to this being their number one target.

I don't think anyone knows what's actually happening, so yeah, I guess it's just what we each individually take away from each submission of 'evidence', usually what's in our Clubs' best interest.

The notion that we would give up next years pick 2-4 for a pick outside of 15 this year is no less ridiculous than when it was first said. Beyond stupid and I don't know why bandwidth keeps being wasted on it. Brady would be shot leaving Hardon St.

I think it just proves your club isn’t going for some crazy reach and there is method to not looking to trade back further - if he is indeed the kid you want.

He appears to be a genuine top end prospect now.
Yeah possibly. I'm sold on him, those hands are great.

But I like plenty of others. Reckon there's still movement that'll happen

I actually think we reached a bit for Phillips...not huge, but we brought him forward 3+ picks or so. That hasn't worked out well so far

Would you mind linking the intel that Melbourne will ‘definitely’ take Tauru at 5 if available?
Was about to ask the exact thing. Having just read 5 pages of vomit, all I can gather is that old mate is trying his hardest to convince himself and others that one of the top line mids get through to the saints.

Taylor has said point blank that we are targeting mids.

Could happen.....remember the tigger supporters think/assume they are trading out pick 18 or 23 for our F1....could happen, but you'd hope not, unless you support Richmond.....that's a nuts deal.
It’s all dependent on how you view the draft crop.

Giants are known to trade up for a targeted player. They don’t lose a pick in the draft and they gain the ability to select the 8th best kid who may be higher than 8th on their draft board.

This whole thread is just a coping mechanism for deluded fans , hoping for the best

It’s should be renamed “ expression of your draft anxiety thread “

I literally posted the article old mate.

I don’t need to convince myself of anything. I’ve also said I’m happy with Tauru at 7.

And in the same breathe you accuse me of trying to convince myself, you cling onto… but Taylor said we are taking mids

It was a covid draft - it was real guesswork with the Vic kids - and the rest of the draft is looking very ordinary too. And unlike the bigfooty experts, you were at least right on the WA kid who had normal exposure - Logan McDonald - a bit meh.

Yes mate. Because he's the bloke that reads the names out on draft night. I'm not sure if you know how it works, but for your benefit it's pretty relevant.
