How so? Curtin played midfield all his junior years before his growth spurt in his draft year so played in defence, forward and also in the midfield.Tauru is the 2024 version of Dan Curtain.
There will be a stack of talls around our 18-24 picks. We might take one at 11 but 10 would get us a second tier mid or a small forward. I'd rather FOS.
I'd say we'd do 10 and 18 for 2 if North wants it. (If they're on the clock we might squeeze them for 10 + 20.)
It makes plenty of sense for us because we have Lalor and FOS as 1a and 1b.
That we are linked to reach for a defender. Curtain wasn't a top 3 pick last year - same as Tauru this year. How so? Curtin played midfield all his junior years before his growth spurt in his draft year so played in defence, forward and also in the midfield.
If you're splitting 2 you will have something elsea trade back for Tauru.
Basically it's because KPP is a position that's hard to recruit, takes years to develop, North are one short and they've taken a lot of midfielders with high picks lately. I think it would have been fine to not take a KPP with their first pcik had they hung onto their second round pick, but they gave it away cheaply. Not coming out with a KPP prospect in this draft is going to bite them in 4-5 years when Larkey is ageing and his replacements are too young to take over.I dont get the North must go KPP train of thought.
Travaglia at #2 confirmed, I guessTobie Travaglia was at Arden St this morning (and funnily enough is shown in the background of a video the club put out for Luke Parker's first day).
Due diligence? I'm not sure what trade gets us into his ballpark with the expectation our first pick will be one of the high rated mids or a trade back for Tauru.

It’s this one from the “in the know” draft guy on the board at that time. It’s one of the reasons why (no offence) I couldn’t give a second thought to any of your opinionsCan you find this gem?

The initial reaction is attached as well which is also hilarious. That whole thread is amazing, the melting over not taking Sellar, Hislop or Proud is just chefs kiss
We'll see but there's a lot of assumptions built in to how people think things will play outOh for sure, I just thought he was expected early teens if not top ten. Seems an odd choice too under the impression we only drop back to snare Tauru.
How so?
We picked Curtin to be a future midfielder?
You are looking at Tauru as a key position player.
Cool - he was linked to us as he was the leading key defender going into the draft. How so?

Fair enough.Cool - he was linked to us as he was the leading defender going into the draft.
You can look at it 2 ways though. Yes, North has a history of going best available or just not going tall in general (McDonald was generally rated higher than Phillips). Does that make them more likely to keep with that trend or does that at some point create a necessity to pick a tall (even at a slight reach) due to them compounding the issue over so many drafts? Every time they make that choice the list balance issue becomes bigger. He means in the context everybody thought we were taking Curtin at 3 last year because we needed a tall, to the extent Clarko was seen flying to Perth the day before the draft. Little did people realise but we had a trade with Melbourne that fell through which would have seen them get 3 and we could draft Curtin later (plus their F1). Instead we just took best available... there are parallels to this year for us and Tauru.
Fair enough.
Given we see him more as a midfielder, may be best for both parties we landed him.
Big choice between FOS & Tauru this year, assuming Lalor goes at #1.
That is spectacular. My personal favourite moment was 'not in the class of [Danny] Meyer'It’s this one from the “in the know” draft guy on the board at that time. It’s one of the reasons why (no offence) I couldn’t give a second thought to any of your opinions

FOS looks a very exciting prospect.FOS.
Curtain is taller than Jermey Cameron and Oscar Allen and the same height as J McGovern and JUH - thats one big midfielder if he ends up as one.
We took two huge, 200cm and 208 cm, KP players last year in Will Dawson and Taylor Goad....Goad projecting as more of a ruckman, but could be anything. Dawson will play next year, no doubt, kid's a monster. You can look at it 2 ways though. Not saying they should or shouldn't but North's history as an influencing factor can be looked at 2 ways.
Curtin is a great mover too I reckon......class. As mentioned, we did try and trade in for him last year, we liked him.FOS looks a very exciting prospect.
Will you look to trade back in for Tauru?
Curtin looks much happier with the freedom as a midfielder or flanker than as a key defender. Beautiful user of the ball.
I don't think we will get a good enough offer to pass of FOS.FOS looks a very exciting prospect.

What is it Melbourne don’t like about Draper? Our reported interest in the top-end mids is for Lalor, FOS, Jagga and Langford only. If all four are off the board then we could very well go with Tauru. We likely rate a midfielder who should be available at pick 9 just as much as Draper or Smillie who would likely be picked between pick 6 and pick 8. Bo Allan would be my guess.
Personally I’m hoping that either North pick Tauru or Adelaide pick Draper which would likely mean that that one of FOS/Jagga/Langford lands at Melbourne.
