That we are linked to reach for a defender. Curtain wasn't a top 3 pick last year - same as Tauru this year.
Tauru has wow tall moments in a way that Curtin didn't. He's the tall version of Lalor - the difference is talls are more risk, because they don't have the back up role of being a flanker.

You can look at it 2 ways though. Yes, North has a history of going best available or just not going tall in general (McDonald was generally rated higher than Phillips). Does that make them more likely to keep with that trend or does that at some point create a necessity to pick a tall (even at a slight reach) due to them compounding the issue over so many drafts? Every time they make that choice the list balance issue becomes bigger.

Not saying they should or shouldn't but North's history as an influencing factor can be looked at 2 ways.

I'm on the side it is FOS until we have a pick we can't draft him at. It won't be Tauru at 2. Trade back to the Crows 4 it's FOS if still on board. Tigers 6 (yes, i know, off the table) or Saints 7/8, we're grabbing Tauru.

If we get FOS, we'll add to the two first round talls from last year with later picks, hopefully trading in for one of the ones in that 15-30 range. It seems people think we need this type, perhaps we need better prospects but a third of our list is KPP.

Or we don't want your pick 2 because the difference in prospect from 2 to 6 isn't worth pick ~18 in this draft. Hence why there's been no trade and probably won't be one, genius
Keep telling yourself that!

We're more than happy to add FOS to: LDU, Sheezel, Wardlaw, Duursma and Simpkin. Maybe Scott and George if we can put him back together.

You'll be adding Hopper 2.0 to Hopper, Taranto and don't know their name yet. Should we cue celebrations yet? Advise us when, will you.

I actually don't think we've had anyone to look after our young kids, physically, for a long time.....since Scotty Thompson or Firrito, which is a long time ago. Parker's no assassin type, but he also won't put up with garbage from oppo players.
People will knock Thompson and Firrito, of course, but you need those fly-the-flag types that are just a tad dangerous out there. We have missed players like that. We always had them. Archer, Duck, Rock, Schwass, even Kingy........just blokes that were a little bit nuts.
Pyke?
Martyn?
McCartney?
Big Russian Alex?

The list goes on!

The literal crazy gang.

Major head wobbling over pick 2. Seem really happy

There’s no chance st kilda take tauru at 7
Donald Trump GIF by Election 2016

I see Fox Sports' phantom has Draper sliding, Herald Sun has Jagga sliding, and The Age's has FOS sliding, yet every one of them have Richmond passing on the slider to take Smillie at 6. Are Richmond really that in love with him that they think he's the second best player in the draft?

I reckon they've got him 3rd best behind Lalor and FOS

Reckon Draper, Smith & FOS all go top 4, with Lalor... excluding Ashcroft.

We took two huge, 200cm and 208 cm, KP players last year in Will Dawson and Taylor Goad....Goad projecting as more of a ruckman, but could be anything. Dawson will play next year, no doubt, kid's a monster.
And Maley, who looks like he might be a player who can play a role, eventually.

I reckon that passing on McDonald was more about the go-home factor, rather than his size

I do too, it just amazes me how every media phantom seems to have Richmond taking Smillie even when a good prospect slides.
I think the Age plugged Smillie in at 6 first and then forgot that they had FOS as the alternative at pick 1 and slid him straight past us lol

It’s this one from the “in the know” draft guy on the board at that time. It’s one of the reasons why (no offence) I couldn’t give a second thought to any of your opinions

Post in thread 'Pick 13 - Jack Reiwoldt'
https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/pick-13-jack-reiwoldt.284545/post-6285246

The initial reaction is attached as well which is also hilarious. That whole thread is amazing, the melting over not taking Sellar, Hislop or Proud is just chefs kiss
Interesting take on Reiwoldt from one of the analysts.

"Goal-kicking forward who is extremely strong overhead."

I haven't heard anything like that about any of the KPF's in this draft.

Tobie Travaglia was at Arden St this morning (and funnily enough is shown in the background of a video the club put out for Luke Parker's first day).

Due diligence? I'm not sure what trade gets us into his ballpark
Pick 10 gets you Travaglia, then you can take a tall at 20. ;)

Goad projecting as more of a ruckman, but could be anything.
My money's on potato.

I like Dawson though.

Jefferson doesn't look that likely to make it. Petty is a defender, Fritsch is a flanker, Kentfield is maybe a 5% chance of making it.
Why don't you think Mathew will make it? He played well in a bottom team this year and kicked enough goals to show he is capable, 29.19 is pretty good if you ask me, and that is while spending some time in the backline, as an early draft selection, he shows promise, spending time in the reserves is quite normal as he builds his fitness, body shape and confidence.

It makes no sense to me that having big wraps on Mathew in the 2022 AFL national draft and then selecting him with pick #15 that they would get rid of him and go through the whole process again, they are pretty wrapped with the way he's progressing as they have given him an extension on his contract to 2026.

He'll be 21 in March next year and while all key forwards are different, at a guess he'll probably come into his prime in a couple of years. As for Petty yes I agree he's more a defender but he can pinch hit in there at times, Fritsch is not a flanker, any guy that can rip to pieces the opposition playing the way he does in a Grand final, to me is a key forward, you don't have to be 200cm tall and built like a brick sh*thouse to play that position, he plays like an old school full forward that is why at 188cm he has been very hard to stop.

Luker is a mid-season draft pick but again you would think the Demons will give him time to develop and he's under 21 so they do not need a key forward, good midfielders {elite if possible} and a good young defender are their priorities in my view. But in the end we all have different takes on things but I can tell you now I will be astonished if Melbourne keep their picks and at pick #5 don't select the remaining top midfielder and at pick #9 select one of Tauru {if he is still there}, Bo Allan, Luke Trainor or Tobie Travaglia.

I think it's a feature of there being a rumour of Richmond liking Smillie and literally no other information being out there. Taking the tiniest bit of information and making it the truth.

Is Richmond really in love with him or does the media really not have any idea of who we actually want?
