There's what number it becomes and then there's the value of the pick - they're different.Pick 30 that gets pushed to 40 is pick 40. You have the 40th ranked player in the draft as determined by all the clubs, regardless of availability. This year pick 30 is 33 before the draft evens starts with compensation picks.
I like Smilie but think he lacks a major thing you can’t teach. He has no mongrel. If you are going to be a big mid like. Crips, Bont or Green they all have mogrel. Maybe that’s why despite his size he doesn’t seem to be able to have a contested markSmillie has more upside than any top 10 player purely because of his height. Eg. 2013 draft Bonts and Cripps.
Nit picking too much you'll find a way to go off them.
As for him and Lalor not being a good combo. I'll try not being rude. But is this like KFC when chips go with coke kinda thing? I'm very sure Richmond can fit any type of player in and best available, and not being pick with picks 1 and 6 is the way. They have 6 picks after potentially to correct that.
The reference is to points; what points are Adelaide's 3 x 3rd round picks worth, ie. to trade them for a 2nd rd if they want to trade up - given it's unlikely anyone will trade for them just so they can have multiple picks post 40 next year to draft a bunch of kids. In that case the number of the pick is its value. There's what number it becomes and then there's the value of the pick - they're different.
Agree that compensation picks reduce value of picks after them, but academy kids being taken doesn't (except in terms of matching points), even though the number changes.
Melbourne's current pick 9 doesn't become less valuable if all of Ashcroft, Lombard and Kako get bids before it - it doesn't change its value at all, even though it has gone from pick 9 to pick 12. Because its value is pinned to available players and that doesn't change regardless of where those guys get bids.
The issue is you need to keep a list spot open for every pick so its not just about the points equivalent. You dont want to be matching highish bids with lots of 3rds.The reference is to points; what points are Adelaide's 3 x 3rd round picks worth, ie. to trade them for a 2nd rd if they want to trade up - given it's unlikely anyone will trade for them just so they can have multiple picks post 40 next year to draft a bunch of kids. Yeah they became less valuable for points initially, but more valuable in terms of draft picks to be used in the draft. THose 40s picks are likely to become 30s picks by the time they're used And after the first couple of highly rated players are matched, they'll move up and increase in value as points picks as well. The reference is to points; what points are Adelaide's 3 x 3rd round picks worth, ie. to trade them for a 2nd rd if they want to trade up - given it's unlikely anyone will trade for them just so they can have multiple picks post 40 next year to draft a bunch of kids. Think it's gunna come down to Langford being available at 5/6 for the Dees. It’s entirely possible..they could then potentially get Allan at 9
I don't think Bont does.....Smillie has a fair bit of class.....just needs to work on his contested stuff, which he can. He can seriously play.I like Smilie but think he lacks a major thing you can’t teach. He has no mongrel. If you are going to be a big mid like. Crips, Bont or Green they all have mogrel. Thats why even in the current system picks 2nd rounders not 3rds are the sweet spot. I suspect that becomes late 1sts/ early 2nds once the points table has changed

Surely North would only be interested in trading down to 4 if Richmond take FOS at 1?I think Adelaide will get 2 and take Smith. Carlton FOS or Draper. Then North takes FOS or Tauru at 4.
Could/ would 7,8 get 2,F2 from North. Or does neither club want that.

When I'm in charge of the world (shouldn't be long now) this confusing mess will all be moot. Keep the draft clear of free agency compensation, academy and f/s picks. Have a separate system where you bank points based on the free agents you gain and lose and those points can be used for f/s and surplus academy players (each team has their own academy that they can get 1 player from each year free of charge - encourage junior development at the grass roots). Base it over a 3-5 year period where most clubs will even out but if you go into deficit or surplus, clubs can gain or lose a draft pick to make up for it (later in the draft - 1st round should never be compromised).Once the draft is open, you can exceed the number of picks compared to list spots - (stupidly as it defeats the purpose of the picks to list spots rule). So under the current system, 2nd rounders are good to take into the draft as it's a lot of points without needing a lot of list spots. But once the draft opens, they then get traded down to increase points and it's later picks that actually get used to match. Expect the draft to open with pick swaps for some late picks to move up and to increase matching points.
Here's a rumour for the rumour-free rumours thread. Maybe you've already heard it, in which case disregard the rumour.
Doesn't say much for their current young rucks.Would be a weird target you'd assume it would cost a bit, would have thought they'd be going for a mid.

Anyone get the feeling from Murphy Reid's facial expressions he isn't happy about heading interstate? I could be wrong but I just got that feeling watching him talk on gettable.
A) depends whether they have a strong preference for FOS - or one at all - them floating a trade downwards a few spots suggests to me that any preference for him is minor.Surely North would only be interested in trading down to 4 if Richmond take FOS at 1?
Haven't seen it but the noise all year has been he's desperate not to move. Wouldn't be surprised if he's not happy with Twomey's phantom.Anyone get the feeling from Murphy Reid's facial expressions he isn't happy about heading interstate? B) Depends on their Adelaide and Carlton intel - if they both prefer Smith and Draper, which is a good chance, FOS gets to 4.
I won't be particularly surprised if North trade down a couple of times - first to Adelaide and then to Saints. Might get a better return that way.
