Unfortunately it’s a massive expense for the club if things don’t work out. I get it. But can just be unlucky with some concussions.
I hope he ends up at North though. Love how he plays.
He’s definitely one of the most interesting “sub plots” for draft night

Great talent and as we all know key position players are probably the rarest commodity’s in the comp but the recent concussion developments obviously have the clubs on edge so it’s a real risk v reward play

For everyone’s sake I hope whoever takes the punt on him get rewarded for it

Whoever gets him will be wrapt with the way he plays. Aggressive as.

I agree. And just to hammer the point home these are the three scenarios IF Rich did offer 6 and 20:

1. Tauru (using pick 2)
2. FOS (using pick 2)
3. Tauru AND Trainer (trading pick 2 for 6 and 20)

Noting the above selections are hypotheticals based on players avail and who they would select.
This all relies on no one else taking Tauru before them which you can’t be sure of.

On paper picks 6 and 20 for pick 2 looks very reasonable. From North’s perspective they get who they want anyway (Tauru) and pick 20 is a free hit on a flat middle-lower first round. The Tigers are probably considering FOS vs Smille + a player at 20 they may like at 10 (given the flatness of that part of the draft).

I actually think this trade appeals to North more than Rich and I can understand why Rich are baulking and only offering pick 10/11 rather than 6 at this stage. But 10/11 ain’t getting Tauru so this deal has fallen over. It’ll be interesting to see if Rich fold and offer pick 6 cos ultimately I reckon 6 and anything in the first 25 should see the deal get done.
Richmond will only do it if they see a significant gap between who they'd get at 2 versus who they'd get at 6. If their ratings are really close, it's not worth it for them.

Agree to a point but think it’s not just the “ratings” either

Given how depleted we are the difference between 6 and 2 is also us being able to pick the player we actually want the most and who will complement best with who we pick with pick 1

Over potentially settling for whoever happens to slide to pick 6
Not saying they wouldn’t be a fantastic player either just more about being to give us the most control in who we actually get if that makes sense

I think your over thinking it and over assuming they become top liners.

The cupboards bare. Getting a few long term top liners will be the goal. You don't want to worry too much about the blend yet. That'll be handled down the track by trades once you've got a long term base from the draft.

Absolutely possible but it could also be a byproduct of us also already having an extremely strong presence in the first round of the draft and the club thinks that we can have our cake and eat it two

If we are talking about the difference between taking 8 players in the top 24 (excluding academy that we can’t get anyway) or 7 it’s definitely a possibility

The other factor is that the club is trying to retain 6 but still target 2

blues and saints desperate for Nth to keep Pick 2 and take Tauru

Means Fos falls to Pick 3 to the blues and One of Langford, Draper, Smith Smillie falls to Pick 7 to the saints

Richmond see little difference between Player at Pick 6 and Pick 2, certainly not worth the player available at 18/20

ATM that player as far Mark Mcgowen https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...out-the-top-40-prospects-20241024-p5kl0v.html

reckons is Trainor/Dettoli/Faull/Alger

So Richmond think Smillie+Trainor/Dettoli, is > Fos

Very important to ignore the picks and rate the players .

ATM looks like Saints and Carltons dreams will come true.
