Do you think that means we will be looking to take a quality on baller with 17, and we think Talia won't be there? Or just rather a mid over a KPD? Neither Talia or a high quality mid will be there at 39.

Draft day is so long away now :(

Shes not commenting on the type of player we want, just that a couple of talls will go earlier and a couple of mids will go a bit latter than they otherwise would, because GWS have to draft the core of their team with their 11 picks.

As bizzare as it seems, even though we are pick 17, only 5 other teams have a pick before us. GWS will probably pick 5 or 6 tallish players you would think. Brisbane may also go taller with one of their two picks.

Round Pick Player Recruited from League Club
1 1 Greater Western Sydney
1 2 Greater Western Sydney
1 3 Greater Western Sydney
1 4 Greater Western Sydney
1 5 Greater Western Sydney
1 6 Port Adelaide
1 7 Greater Western Sydney
1 8 Brisbane Lions
1 9 Greater Western Sydney
1 10 Greater Western Sydney
1 11 Greater Western Sydney
1 12 Brisbane Lions
1 13 Greater Western Sydney
1 14 Greater Western Sydney
1 15 Richmond
1 16 Fremantle
1 17 Western Bulldogs

"Their dominance of the early order may, however, help the clubs holding picks from around 15-20. To ensure it gets a variety of player types, GWS may have to pick one or two tall players a little earlier than they would normally be drafted.
This may mean a few good midfielders get pushed down the order to clubs like Richmond, the Dockers, the Bulldogs and Essendon.
Monster forward Jonathon Patton, midfielders Stephen Coniglio and Dom Tyson and defender Matthew Buntine appear likely top-five picks, while the Giants may choose ruckman Billy Longer in the top five to keep him out of Port Adelaide's clutches.
Onballers Chad Wingard, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Toby Greene also appear in top eight or 10 contention, with the likes of onballers Liam Sumner, Elliott Kavanagh and Devon Smith, talls Adam Tomlinson, Shane Kersten and Nic Haynes and running back Sam Docherty also around the top 12-14 mark.

I think the point she is making is that the tall players bolded are likely to go to GWS since they will have their pick of the cream of the smalls (apart from Port=6 and Lions=8).

Youd also think that GWS will choose a range of midfielders - inside and outside, including perhaps ones with genuine pace, so that may let a midfielder or two slide a bit further than they might as well.

Im happy with this - pick the one with the best disposal please dogs.

warning, based purely on Phantom draft descriptions... (Knightmare and Special88)

My favourites would be the potential midfielders Brent McKenzie and Taylor Adams, specficially because the OP rates their disposal under pressure, their kicking skills, and their ability to win their own ball. If you cant base a successful AFL player on those features, then I dont know what.

I wouldnt mind the following who I think might be avilable around our pick:

#14 GWS - Hayden Crozier (VIC – Fwd/Mid)
Height: 184cm, Weight: 68kg, DOB: 24/12/1993
Recruited from: Eastern Ranges
Style: Dale Thomas
Player comparison:
Range: 10-30
Profile: Still inconsistent and doesn’t impact games as consistently as you would want, but none the less a special talent who can do the team lifting things whether it be taking a specie or kicking a team lifting goal. Already famous for his sensational specie he took during the champs. Absolute highlight machine who can do the special and make it look easy. Still light but has standout speed and really has that young Dale Thomas feel to his play with that tremendous upside. Skill level very high and has a nice long left foot kick. Has great goal sense. Needs to work on endurance, but with work that should come and with it should come consistency. Will also need to add weight, but still very young so that also should come.

#18 North Melbourne – Sam Docherty (VIC - Def)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Style: Heath Shaw
Player comparison:
Range: 10-40
Profile: Really impressive when he got injected into the champs. Wasn’t part of the original Vic Country side. Back flanker who provides serious dash from defence and looks like a real weapon in the making with that explosive speed of his. Kicking is exceptional and under pressure looks very composed which is a great sign. Man on man is solid and is an absolute rebounding machine from defence. Allot to like and is a 1st round talent.

#23 West Coast – Brad McKenzie (SA – Mid/Def)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 29/05/1993
Recruited from: Sturt
Style: Dyson Heppell/ Trent McKenzie
Player comparison:
Range: 10-35
Profile: The thing that stands out with McKenzie is his skills by foot, is the absolute feature of his game. Has a great penetrating left foot kick on him and can consistently find targets or kick long goals from 60m out without any difficulty. Even under pressure executes by foot without any difficulty. Not a sensational athlete but makes up for it with his skill level. Seems to have a really good understanding of the game and reads the play well. Inside work is also very good. Was one of SA’s best midfielders in the u18 champs and had a couple of big games. A bit of a flanker but can play midfield. Quality ball user.

From 'speciall88' phantom, I also like the look of:

#11 - Greater Western Sydney
Taylor Adams
181 / 80 / 93
Recruited From: Geelong Falcons
Bio: For an inside midfielder his outside skills are elite likewise his endurance. He's a great tackler, works smartly around packs and his skills under pressure are very impressive. He's a terrific mark for a guy of his size which is a massive plus for him considering the new rules the AFL has put in. Expect him to play a bit in the forwardline when he's resting.

#14 - Greater Western Sydney
Mitchell Grigg
183 / 81 / 93
Recruited From: Norwood
Bio: Whenever i watch him play he always reminds me of Rich. An AFL built inside midfielder with very damaging skills. He has the ability to win plenty of the contestant ball and use it effectively while at the same time his outside game is just as good. His main strength has to be his kicking, the 50 meter bullet passes will definitely have recruiters looking at him. He dominated the champ series and dominated to make a mark in the SANFL.

No way.

At draft camp they timed his sprint with a sundial.

I'm not selling memberships so I'll be straight up and down. Our team on paper is bottom 6 no doubt.

Midfield: Two genuine guns in Boyd and Griffen and one up and comer in Libber. Then we have Cooney on one leg, Cross on his way to retirement, Higgins , Moles :D and Djekurra :cool.

Forward: No genuine gun. One up and comer in Jones, a young guy who has stagnated in Grant. Two promising types in Dahlhaus and Tutt, one solid role player in Sherman, Gia on his way to retirement and question marks over Vez.

Backs: One genuine gun in Murphy. A solid type in Williams, promising types in Wood and Howard, a fringe role player in Markovic, Gilbee on his way to retirement an big question marks over Lake, Morris, Hargrave all coming back from major injuries at 30 years of age.

Where on that list tells you Finals let alone a premiership? Apart from Boyd, Griff and Murphy, no other player would be regulars in a top 8 team. At the young end, we only have 2 genuinely exciting kids in Libber and Jones, then some very promising ones in Dahlhaus, Cordy and Roughead. Our other kids are no better than what every other list has.
From where I sit, our time is past and it's time to reload.
seriously? if cooney, morris and lake manage to get back then we really haven't lost much from 2010 when we made top four. Johnno, eagle and hahn didn't do much all year. aker was more of a hindrance than a help. Ward was injured most of the year as well. Of the players we've lost since then, the only ones who helped us to get to the top four are huddo, harbrow and hall. Will or Roughy could step up with the extra responsibility. I know a lot of people don't rate Will, but look at what Jeff White leaving did for Jamar. Roughy could also have a breakout year like a Mcevoy or goldstein from this year. even if they dont, huddo was never one of our big stars anyway. As for harbrow, howard definitely looks a player and makes better contests and has better kicking skills. There are also a lot of quality running defenders playing in state leagues as well. Look at puopolo and duigan. Hall was obviously very important, but there is a ready made star replacement who has also moved on from two clubs where things havent quite worked out due to his behaviour waiting in the VFL. It would only cost us a pick in the rookie draft. I'm not saying we will definitely be a top team next year, but with a bit of luck and a bit of fev we could certainly make finals. I can't believe people are writing Fev off so easily after what we've seen with Hall. It's almost the same story but two years behind. Although we shouldn't get a bunch of list cloggers in the hope they could become half decent depth players, getting fev is more than worth the punt. most people seem to think that barlow deserves to keep his spot on the rookie list, but why would you even consider keeping him when we could pick up a coleman medallist who has been in great form.

Would love Mackenzie but only if we have another KPD option that we know for sure will be there at our second/later picks, and if we have a midfielder in mind that we know will be there at our later picks I am all for Talia aswell!

We'll get a lot more choice in the 2012 draft - better draft and better picks. Save drafting tall timber until then I reckon.

Mitch Grigg
Talia
Tom Downie

They are the players I would be happy to see us get. Then upgrade Panos and Dal.

Whoa. Looking at your post is like being on acid. Try using paragraphs so it doesn't look like this.

I reckon I'd prefer Devon Smith over Grigg. I've seen a lot of Smith, and I reckon he will make a very good show in AFL.

What I'd like to see in the draft.

Pick 17: Used on the best user of the pill, hoping for McKenzie.
Pick 39: The best young KP in there left.
Pick 49: A Mature age KP who can provide back up up forward and down back.
Pick 57: A Mature age Mid who has a good foot skills and can provide good back up depth to our midfielders.
Pick 70: A punt on a Zeph Skinner type

The rest of our picks to be used on upgrading Dahl and Panos.

Wondering what re thoughts on oter teams rookies are after looking at the drafts board.

Two that stand out are curnow and thouy from Carlton, who may be leaving because of their extremely tight cap, thoughts?

Other than that, if either talia or mckenzie are available at 17 I will be stoked!

Then upgrade panos as well as dahl's 2yr contract, maybe re-rookie Barlow and take a couple more picks a KP and a speccy mid :thumbsu:

Starting to hope that Taylor Adams somehow falls to us at 17 now.

Maybe an 'inside' mid will drop a few pegs due to GWS also wanting to round out its smalls with outside and X-factor players, and talls, pushing Adams further down.

We need players with better disposal - that doesnt neccessarilly equate to pure outside mids - it just means we need players who can use the ball. Adams seems like he has the good disposal and a good burst, as well as being hard at it - thats a bonus!

Phantom drafts have him going anywher from 7 to the 20s, but most around 10-12.

But you never know...

So probably

Pick 17: Hopefully McKenzie
Pick 39: Jack Frost
49: Mangan if avaliable
57: Maybe Valenti or Bastanis from Port Melbourne
70: Whomever the club thinks neccesary

If Will H-E gets to #17, it will be the most amazing thing to ever happen. It would also be the greatest thing ever for us, and I will squeal with excitement.
