The lady who reads the books at our local library, to my kids, is morbidly obese.

One of the other employees smokes in the park out the back. No chance the kids inhale the smoke, but she's clearly visible to the kids.

We've explained issues about smoking to our kids, and have touched on healthy eating and weight, but not to the point that we've explained why people get morbidly obese, otherwise I'm worried they'd tell the big girl to eat more vegetables.

I'd be more comfortable explaining why a drag queen was dressed flamboyantly than why their current reading lady has trouble puffing through some of the songs/stories.
In fifty years we've gone from my mum doing thirty a day when she was pregnant with me to me having to go hide down the end of the garden and behind a shed so my mate's kids don't see me having a puff.

The smoking was just another example of a very harmful behaviour which is acceptable for kids to see, while an un-harmful one, such as a person in drag, is considered harmful by some for no apparent reason.

They've lost two relatives in their 50's, the only relatives they've lost early and also the only two smokers in the family.

Don’t the feminists say that drag queens objectify women you know big boobs etc .

Will those who believe in a collective humanity and equal rights for all ever be able to co-exist with those who promote dehumanisation, exclusion and erasure of those it perceives as 'different' than themselves?

Is all this going to end in an obscene amount of violence?

The slow march of societal acceptance has worked in large part. As different groups organised and asserted their right for inclusion in our collective humanity over the years there have always been pushbacks against. Violence often errupted. But those against were always pushed back by the forces of collective humanity. Not in every area and not all at once, but things changed eventually.

Social conservative pushbacks against the civil rights movements of every era gone before have eventually failed.

Their pond is almost dried up. Only a few groups seem left at the margins, wanting their civil rights acknowledged. Like all groups before them they only want inclusion, not exclusion.

The social conservatives of this era, in a drying puddle now, have little room to breathe as they see it. Their pushback due to the constraining situation they find themselves in may well be the most violent one we've seen in a long time.

These dead-enders, these who cannot accept that everyone deserves a shot at happiness and contentment in their own lives in a world that we must all share equally, simply have no other options left.

When that violence comes, those that believe in humanity musn't be afraid to meet it head-on.

Let's dry the puddle.

I'm funny how, FireKrakouer? Funny like I'm a clown? I amuse you? I make you laugh?

It's not against the drag queens themselves, as much as it is about the sexualisation of kids and the confusion about gender identity that it might bring.
Soz for the late reply.

I'd fairly speculate this is not the intent though, and fairly speculate nor is it the intent to impose on toddlers and kindy kids to the 'be inclusive' mantra.

Compelling sexuality or virtue signalling cultural appropriation on formative minds is not really rational and would just confuse those of formative minds. These are for the realm of matured and life experienced minds i:e adolescents and adults.

Therefore I would be confident that neither of these are the intent of DQST or supporters of it.

It is not zero reward.

It helps people who might possibly be seen to "dress a bit funny" in the eyes of kids as merely people that like to read stories like everybody else. Dare I say it helps humanise them in the eyes of kids, you know, to see the person, to not judge a book by its cover, and all of that.
That's noble sentiment to encourage kids to be inclusive, but we're talking about toddlers and kindy kids who don't give a sh*t about progressive or conservative values, or sexuality or even know what these things are. They're kids, they only care about toys and the wiggles, they're of formative mind.

I honestly don't believe there's some sort thinly veiled attempted conspiracy from a secret progressive collective to compel kids of formative mind to form a view on 'inclusive' through DQST. That'd be an irrational view to take, a 'cookers' or a 'Karen' view if you like.

I honestly believe that these kids see DQST as entertainment and aren't really aware of virtue signalling or sexuality, and if by chance some older kids are, I doubt they'd form a view anyway, coz they're kids.

This fear of 'grooming' is farken ridiculous imo.

Mate, even if you were to focus on more 'selfish' issues:

Where are the protests over cost of living? Ridiculous rent hikes? Low wage growth? Resource companies paying f all tax?

The genius of the Right's puppet masters is in curating what to their minions get angry about.

Excellent post.

Another example of this is the Voice vote. How strongly some people are exclaiming "I WANT DETAIL! WHERE'S THE DETAIL! I'M NOT VOTING FOR SOMETHING WHEN I DON'T KNOW ALL THE DETAILS!"

Ask most of them what the detail is on LNP tax policy or ALP collective bargaining policy and they wouldn't have a f*cking clue. And it actually effects their daily life.

Or is it just now important kids under the age of 16 should know about these themes?

If 15 year olds listening to a drag queen read a book is a problem for you then I sincerely hope you don't actually know what a majority of 15 year olds are up to.

It's just a little melodramatic wouldn't you say? Like a Hollywood general giving a speech to his troops.

It seems melodramatic if you are unaffected in your everyday life by these events. It seems melodramatic - if you're not experiencing the pointy end of the hate here.

For some people the fear for their own safety is VERY real. And it's not right or just.

The top end of town...rattling their tiaras...counting their manumission..

There's an LGBT etc event in my Main Street this weekend, just near where one of the Drag Story times got cancelled a few weeks ago. I'll be heading along with the family, I'm wondering if this will get attention from the Blair Cottrell types?
Yeah don't be opposing no flair Blair, the cops will have his back. (that is not sarcasm, the cops will probably be directed to ensure their safety)

I'd avoid the area to be honest.

I'm gonna risk it, they've been having it a while and nothing has ever happened.

If people started avoiding these events over safety issues then the far right terrorists win. Hopefully it's just noise from online agitators who would turn tail and run if stared down from those who actually want to enjoy the event.

I mean im certainly not an activist, im just going for something to do with the young bloke (my mate is also bringing the new GF so I want to meet her).

Hoping not to stare someone down, hopefully just going and having a few beers with family and friends doesn’t get interrupted.
