Paul Stewart is a guy I have to admit I know very little about, but seems to be set for a posi in Ports backline. He has been around for a few years but has not made any impression on my feeble memory at all.

What sort of role do you guys expect he will have this year? Is he more your lockdown defensive back pocket/hbf player or will he be more of a running half back or play a sweeping role to release Krak upfield? Do you expect him to play on a wing? Does he use the ball well or a bt of a hacker?

I did have him pinned as the sort of bloke that is just a fill in type until more recognised players come back, but suspecting I am wrong now with the loss of the Burgoynes it does appear there is a spot up for grabs. Is Nash his only competition?

Paul does look to be in great shape, averages in the low-mid 20's in the SANFL, usually as a rule uses the pill all right. He is a good one on one defender who rebounds well, the same as Nathan Krakour whoever Krak has that turn of speed, Stewart lacks that bust of Pace but his courage makes up for it in bucket loads, dose the 1% better than most at Port and will become a fan favourite, his biggest threat will be concussion!

Why hasn't Robbie Gray been playing in the pre-season again? If I remember correctly, it's to do with something that happened towards the end of last year.

When is he likely to get a game before Round 1? It's really tough to choose between him and Rioli.//

Got his appendix out again. Should definitely play before round 1.

How many games is Banner expected to play? He looked good tonight. Im tossing up between him or Trengove (melb).

I'd be saving 70k by getting Banner but do you think he'd play more games than Trengove?

Cheers

He's not definite, but he'll probably play Round 1. The thing about Port's list right now is we've got about 15 automatic starters and then about 15 relatively even players fighting for 7 spots, one of which is Paul Stewart. It makes us very hard to predict.

And to AhSteveSteve, he won't be taking over Burgoyne's role. Krakouer already overtook that last year.

What sort of role do you see Justin Westhoff playing this season, will he be put on the wing like we have seen during the NAB cup?

just wondering how many games you think Jackson Trengove, Andrew Moore and Cameron Hitchcock will play this season?

are they likely to get games early?

I think Paul Stewart is a lock for rd1, he's part of our master 2006 draft and he's ready to establish himself this year. I just dont think he's value for money, he's a 60-75 point player and he's not bottom dollar.

Westhoff is in the same sort of boat he'll pick up more possies this year, but i dont think there will be enough improvement in him for the price you will pay up front. he'll sacrifice possiesions for goals, and in sc those will probably be uncontested so not really worth it imo.

Moore, Trengove and Hitchcock are all around the mark, you would have to say Alfy is the most likely to play early but he hasn't even been elevated yet. I'd almost be loathe to have any of them in my starting line up. Plenty of chances to trade them in if it looks like they may get an extended run.

Harding seems a goer, and i have him in my 22, his high tackle count will help his point system too. Not too sure what he's worth at the moment but if he's in the scully price range i reckon he might be better value than that early on.

Banner would have to be in our best 22 based on the preseason and the exciting thing from a dt/sc perspective he's been a points accumulator in limited game time. As was mentioned is 70k cheaper than Trengove, so take that for what its worth. Personally im starting with both Trengove and Martin in my starting line up and think at almost bottom dollar Mitch is excellent value on the bench alond with lewis jetta.

I've said this before and ill say it again, If you only have one Port player in your squad this year, make it Robbie Gray, i'd almost bet my house on him lifting his sc avg upto the 115ppg mark and his dt points to 95+ which for someone at his price and the risk factor involved theres absolutely no reason he shouldn't be the most selected player in both comps this year.
