I would go Hanley. Has been playing on a wing in the NAB CUP and pulling good numbers. Effectively you could be picking another mid. Your not in my Supercoach league are you?:p

None of them, they won't score big consistently or make you money.

Firstly you wouldn't spend 400-450k on a defender and want them to make you money. You would hope to lock them for the season and hope they finish in the top 10 defenders.

Secondly only four listed defenders averaged 100 or over last year. What do you want from them if an average of 95 could possibly have them as a top 7 defender?

Hanley is consistent and on the up. It is very possible he could average 95 plus this year and seems durable with good job security. To write him off like that shows your lack of SC nous.

Really? I think I have some idea, my "nous" managed to finish in the top 0.2% last year. Still think I've got no idea, how did your nous go?

I already have Goddard Deledio and Broughton at the back, Lake and youg guys, who else should i add with 450?

I was actually here to read up for any information on Rioli's pre season. Why would you want to make money of a 450k defender? And if an average of 97 would have you in the top 7-8 defenders define big? You cant just expect 130s from all defenders this year the options seem slim. Hanley is a very viable option around the 450k mark this year. He will possibly score like Enright in 2011 but with a 74900 discount.

It really depends on how you've set up the rest of your team and how much money you've got. I haven't really been following it this preseason as I've been too busy so I'm not across the form. I would normally leave out the middle tier and go guns and rookies unless their are circumstances a bit abnormal (Lake) or I'm really confident someone at that price will end up in the top handful for their position. Defenders score the least so I'd normally start with maybe 4 guns (Goddard, Deledio, Broughton, Fisher etc) and the rest cheap for a future upgrade and load up as many guns and top rookies as I can in the rest of my team. Looking at Lake's price you could maybe (risky?) keep the 3 you have + Lake, maybe fill out the rest with Bower, M.Clark, Brandon Ellis types to upgrade later (whichever ones you know will play), and spend the extra 300k upgrading a kid to another gun elsewhere (Ablett, Swan, Murphy, Franklin, Pendlebury etc) and they're in for the year. If you're committed to the 450k range I'd go either Hurn or Hanley.

Well maybe I should eat some humble pie. :D I just don't think Hanley will end up in the top 10 defenders, maybe I'm wrong.
 
I don't need Hanley to be top 10 defenders... But I want him to improve his average to 90... I think he can... But I am still considering Burgoyne at the moment

Most of us aint 100% sure what's going on with Liam but he will most likely be fine by next friday, he will be a good pick but pretty expensive after such a good year. Should have an even better season though :thumbsu:.

I want to get a ready made player cheap player on my bench in my DT, who will see a lot of game time. It's a choice between Aaron Hall (GC) and Tory Dickson (WB). I really don't know who to pick out of those two, both mature aged recruits. Who would be a better option to have? Both will likely play Round 1.
 
Any injury worries with Hodge? he's super cheap for a player of his calibre in DT.

Surely he can average 100++ with a decent pre-season behind him and a flying Hawks?!

I'm surprised on the DT boards that Hodge has hardly been mentioned. It is hard to say with Hodge on his pre season, I have heard he is back to his 2010 fitness from some quarters and otehr quarters that he is lacking some fitness but should be better then 2011 anyway.

Tough call but I'm tossing up between him and Mitchell atm.

I was probably a little forthcoming in my defense of Hanley as a prospect. Takes a great team to make the top 1000 and the difference between 1000 and 500 is pretty much pure luck(injuries, suspension, captain choice, right choice of rookie on the field ect):thumbsu:

Had to make a tough decision between Hanley and Malceski as my last expensive defender. Have Hanley atm and am not regretting it yet (not injury prone ect). Decision may backfire but atm I feel for this year he will be very close to the top 10 at worst if not in it. Will have to see if that 447k calculated risk pays off. Cannot see him finishing outside the top 3 of players priced between 400-500k. Will have to see how the year pans out for him to see if I eat the humble pie at the end.

Same dilemma here!

I went with Mitchell, I think Hodge has more potential to score massive scores but Mitchell is mr consistency, you can bank on an average of 110+ in SC.
 
im thinking of choosing cyril ahead of dustin martin in DT this season.
before last year cyril was ever reliable and would always rack up a big score.

how do you hawks fans see his role this year?
will he get more midfield time this year?
has he matured enough not to drift in and out of games so much?

and most importantly, is he over his injuries?
