Considering Skipper and Warnock as my 2 reserve rucks.

I know they are over the base price - but i don't want to have to trade in my rucks if possible this year.

I figure both of these guys should get game time - hell - the hawks would prefer anyone to ruck other than risking roughead in there!

Is anyone thinking about starting Lobbe on the field? It would no doubt be a brave move but if he is in the team R1 it is something I could very possibly do.

Nah no chance for me, he will probably average around the 40-50 mark and if I have him on the field it means my ruck emergencies will be much weaker. A few bad games and he will be dropped aswell.

I would not be surprised if it happened in an attempt to try and find a solution to when the gold coast enters next season. Not sure how useful it will be without the extra team though.

Is this "dual positional swap" really going to happen?

Give it 10 days and you'll know for sure.

As it stands though, I've no reason to doubt it.

Where did this rumour start? first I have heard of it!

Will mean players like goddard, pav etc could be absolute gold this year!!

Will certainly change the strategy for the initial squad. Wonder how the trading would work.

A quick update for it.

You'll be able to swap a C/B in the backline with a C/B in the mids.

I've written a big ol' post on it over on TS, but the long and short of it is- Without dual-positioned rookies, all it's really looking good for is to use a F/R to cover for an injured ruck.

I'm definitely considering Simmonds for my 2nd ruck spot (he'll be pretty cheap yeah?). This is all of course subject to NAB Cup form....but Hardwick re-signed him for a reason.

Brogan anybody?

Had a huge end to 2009 (97.5 over the last 5).

Is guaranteed the #1 ruck position. Up until now he's always been #2 behind Lade - this could mean increased TOG and scoring (was that a factor behind his big end to 2009?).

Obvious concerns about age / injury history, but from reports he's had an uninterrupted pre-season (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/88801/default.aspx).

His name keeps getting thrown up every couple of days and keeps getting shot down because of his age! also if port are going to be as bad this year as i am expecting then they will put more and mroe time into Lobbe. 32 year old who has never played 22 games and never averaged more than 72...not your best pic sorry

Durability I don't really see as being that big a concern with Brogan. He's been pretty good in the last two years, and even if he misses, your bench ruckman has just become his side's number one ruckman, so the points decrease shouldn't be too severe (unless Port bring Cloke in to cover, in which case you're boned).

Tippett and Kreuzer might be safer options around the same price, but I think Brogan is a decent choice.

One thing that i think needs clarifying is that to be able to swap players out from the FWD and DEF lines, you are going to need to have a player in the Mids with dual eligibility.

Sounds easy.......Yeah Right.

This means you realistically need to start guys like Goddard/Davis/Didak/Rok/Goodes/Sylvia in the midfield from day dot to take full advantage.

Basically their are no good rookie selections of dual eligibility IMO. Mid pricers are not too bad however this isnt helping my Guns/Rookie theory.

IMO the only way to make it work is to choose 1 of the Keeper dual position players as mentioned above and keep them as a 5th/6th midfielder for the entirety.

Could work if injuries become a problem with the dual position players but Murphys law says your injury will be elsewhere.

A different game plan is needed and it may be well worth while having a look at your team last year to see if it would have helped you out.

For me, When Pav/Goodwin/Chornes/Adcock went down I still would have had no cover from my Mids.

Hopefully people try too hard to fit heaps of these dual position players in that their starting squads have much less upside.

Anyone think that VS would let you do a threeway position switch? Would allow better flexibility.

ie. C/B--> F/C --> B/F

Excellent question an no idea TBH.

Would certainly open up opportunities if you could but most likely will be a straight positional swap by the sounds. Probably the most important thing to find out when DT opens.

Will able to use NAB Cup to trial what works and what doesn't.

Does anyone think these positional changes may be as simple as, (example) Youve picked Ablett in the mids, Goddard in defence. Say Ablett goes down with a 2 week injury, you could move Ablett to the pine, move Goddard down to the mids to cover Ablett and bring in a rookie off your back bench to cover Goddard? I just think we don't really know until feb 1st whats going to happen. This to me just seems more logical??

FWIW, I think that the only player substitution will be from the same dual eligible players which is still going to make things difficult.

For example IF Brennan is listed as F/R and you have him in yr rucks and Tippet is Listed F/R and is listed in your Forward line then these two may be able to be exchanged if you have cover from another reserve to utilise.

I'm not imagining VS are going to make it easy which is good.

Agreed with deledio_gun and 54dogs, people would then just play 8 top line midfielders, with at least one each of B/C and F/C and then send them to cover a non playing 7th fwd or back

Yeah ,did'nt think of it like that. I don't think i'm gonna go overboard trying to squeeze all these dual possie blokes in. Iv'e gone a 'mid price stratergy' so i should be right for cover.:thumbsu:

Almost certain you'll need to finish up with the right number of players in each position ie 9 fwds, 4 rucks etc.

The only real question is whether it's only a direct swap to do this or whether a 3 way trade would be allowed.

One thing they might do which will allow the 3 player swap scenario is, have your starting 22, then you select your 3 emergencies (in the correct position), then the rest of the players are in the 'reserves' column rather then being assigned to a specific bench position.
