On channel 10 news this evening in Perth they had a story about Matthew Knights' plans for the Bombers forward line... with Matty Lloyd and Lucas gone it looks as though Hille will be spending alot of time down there... good or bad for Hille/Ryder's outputs? They also said Hille should be right for round 1... here's the article mentioning the same things

Interesting they said he will be ready for Round 1. Believe that when I see it.

How will having him play the majority of the first 5-6 rounds up forward impact his scoring though? Does that make him a much less worthwhile option than his price may suggest?

I think it does - KP forwards, particularly when they are coming off injury like hille will be, struggle to rack up the DT points and generally require a lot of goals to get up there.

Hmmm.

I can't see Hille playing round 1. He did his knee in round 5 last year so thats a month out from the full 12 months. Being a big fella too, it will take longer to heal properly you would think.

Someone on the bombers board asked him how he was travelling and he said in 4 weeks he'll be 100%, so read into that what you will...

That means he will have 3 PS games where he can play - whats wrong with that? Thats very solid and would have him almost a shoe in to play round one?

Guys my strategy is to play 2 rookies on the bench - 1 lock is Lobbe. Also i want to spend 78,900 on another rookie... you never know that 11k could be handy ;). Was wondering out of 78,900k rookies which one is most likely to have a slim chance if any of playing any sorta game lolz.

Also because of lack of forwards im gonna put J.Trengove as a rookie back. Then put Phil Davis as a forward. - need more fwd rookies for upgrade and bench options!

So my bench will look something like this:
Backs-
Matt Maguire
Jackson Trengove

Rucks:
Lobbe
78,900 player

Forwards:
Phil Davis/TDL/Tapscott
Scott Gumbleton (Might start or choose my best rookie fwd to start)

Will Sullivan is probably your best bet. WC are a bit thin on ruck depth and with Cox always a chance to go down injured Sullivan might get games.

McCauley would probably be the next best option although they do have 3 possible number 1 rucks and Voss showed last year he is more than prepared to go with the 1 ruck option. McCauley is mature aged though and if a couple of Lions ruckmen went down (happens a lot) then he is a definate chance.

Keefe another possibility although there is plenty ahead of him and I think he is still another couple of years from being ready.

Im not so suree - if cox goes down for the medium term, expect naitanui to get much more ruck time, and Lynch to move into the ruck/midfield as support (as he has done the last few years on occasions).

Thus, for sullivan to become relevent, cox would have to be out for the year - and it would have to occur relatively early in the season.any o

If Charman and Leuey go down with injuries again, I think Broc will get some games. Has been chopping up in the QFL (or whatever its called) for the past few years, and is ready made ruck. Should be able to step straight in and contribute. Ill probably be going with him as my 4th ruck.

Last year neither Charman or L'Berger were up and we didn't see anyone else beyond Clark & Brennan. The same for the Eagles, Cox went down and they didn't go beyond Natpooey & Lynch.

My advice is be like the majority of DT'ers and take Trengrove & Lobbe at least one should play every week.

Trent West is another that might get a game if Ottens or Blake go down... but I would expect that Cats would just use more Tommahawk in the ruck if need be.

ruck is an interesting position which I don't think I have quite mastered just yet. I think I nailed it 2 years ago...but then so did everyone because Cox and Simmonds played every game.

Last year I was a bit off with Cox and Fraser to start...too big too early.

This year Hille would be a lock if not for injury. Thinking of starting him anyway and wait for him to play whilst using Lobbe early.

Its tough, because I consider rucks to be a low scoring position. Only Dean Cox has ever shown the ability to consistently score as well as a midfielder or forward.

Yet, having a solid ruck division differentiates you from the pack.

Everyone has similar defences and fowrard lines...so having a ruckman who scores 20 points a week on average more than your opponents is invaluable. Even if that is only an average of 60-80 points for that player.

Or, is this the year you take a punt on a rookie to start, name a guy who can play ruck or another position as a backup elsewhere...and use the cash on another gun midfielder???

Tough Tough call. Choosing the right rucks early could give you the edge. Because everywhere else is going to be reasonably similar.

Last year Brisbane didnt have anyone past Lueuy and Charman, McCauley was drafted this year as a backup in case it happens again.

I agree that McCauley is some chance but I would think that Sullivan is more likely. Last year there was McCulloch available for a while and also Tippett who had been on the list for a few years and yet Voss went with Clark and Brennan. All of Clark, Leuenberger and Charman like a lot of TOG and Voss could easily go with a part time option if he had a lot of injuries again. McCulloch remains on the list as well and would be a chance to get a call up ahead of McCauley if there were injuries to the three ahead of them. I expect that McCauley was acquired for a reason but I would not be counting on him playing this year.

Sullivan is a year older than last year and has looked pretty good apparently. I am sure if the opportunity presented itself Worsfold wouldn't mind getting a look at him at AFL level. Last year he was still too green and in need of development. Another offseason and he would be closer to being able to match it at AFL level. I agree that the chances of him playing are pretty slim but I think the best of the 77k options.

Yep, I am bullish on Jolly this year. He will be the Pies #1 ruck with Fraser spending more time in the forward line (when he can get himself on the park). The Pies play a more attacking brand of footy than the Swans and I expect Jolly's average to reflect that this year.

Swans also have more stoppages, meaning Jolly was around the ball a lot more. I think Jolly will stagnate, or even drop his average a little.

Good point, but I think this will force him to add more value around the ground meaning he may accumulate more marks/kicks/handballs. He averaged 31 h/o per game last year. Say that decreases by 10 this means he only needs to increase his kicks/marks by 3 per game to make up the fall in hot outs and this excludes handballs.

Plus he is very durable. Can't go wrong imo.

Collingwood also play the boundary and he dominates boundary throw in hitouts with his body size. So he could increase his hitouts... as seen as the game in sydney last year when he had a record number of taps. 33 were from the boundary throw ins.

Very good point mate.
