Does anyone think that if you have trades in hand plus a "Complete" team of "premiums" and you are a serious chance for the car, that trading Gibbs to Hayes/Bartel and/or Higgins or Pods to Riewoldt/Pav is a really stupid idea?

No, it's not so stupid if you have enough trades. Just choose wisely. Higgins/Pods to Riewoldt/Pav? Definitely. Gibbs to Hayes/Bartel? Hmmm, probably not a great priority. Gibbs had a bad game on the weekend but before that has been ok (in a DT sense, at least). Maybe see how he responds to being put under the microscope this week...? Look, you'll probably do better out of Hayes than you will from Gibbs, but surely you have other priorities in your team? But yes, you should do the Higgins/Pods trade.
Thanks for the advice. Honestly these are my 2 main issues. Higgins my biggest issue because he's not showing signs of getting back to scoring 90+ consistently - has a big quarter here and there but not putting it together over 4 quarters. Pods is currently on my bench. I would trade out 1 of Higgins/Pods and leave the other on the bench for the season.
Gibbs is my biggest midfield issue.
I have defence issues in that some players are having occasional down weeks compared with previously (Gilbert/Enright/Waters) but it is not just the same player week in week out and the only player I would consider upgrading any of my defenders to is Lake (already have Hodge/Goddard) and I don't have the cash to do it nor is there 1 player who is an obvious player to trade out - Mackie is my "worst" defender in terms of averages but he's consistently scoring higher than some of the players I already mentioned. So while there are "issues" in defence there is no obvious solution to them.
I have the trades and (with 1 downgrade) I should have the cash to trade out both Gibbs and Higgins/Pods in the next 2 weeks - although I'm more likely to have the cash to do both if I trade out Gibbs this week and Higgins/Pods next week. But I certainly take your point (and hench why I've been going over and over it in my head) that before last week Gibbs has been good - from a DT point of view anyway - and with all the fingers being pointed at Carlton this week they could really come out fired up and turn things around. That's why I'm not sure the best way to go about it from here. I would rather trade out Higgins/Pods this week and do Gibbs next week if he has another down week. Only problem is at that point in time a player like Hayes/Bartel may be out of my reach pricewise and I see no benefit in trading Gibbs for someone who is not clearly a better and more consistent premium than Gibbs.
I see your point but if you want to do one this week, I'd be trading out Higgins/Pods. You mention that Hayes/Bartel might be out of reach if you wait a week. I'd argue that Riewoldt/Pav will also be out of reach if you wait. Moreover there are many more choices in the midfield if you want to trade out Gibbs in future weeks, I get the feeling Riewoldt/Pav won't be at their price for much longer and there aren't many others around that price who are anywhere near as good.
Also, I think you should be trading Pods rather than Higgins - and put Higgins on your bench, purely because Pods seems to be a week to week prospect, whilst Higgins will surely play out the season, barring injury. Your side must be really good if Higgins is your bench player.
ps I reckon Kade Simpson is the best value mid going around, though by the sounds of it your team is so good he probably isn't someone you would target.
I'm pretty keen to trade out Pods instead of Higgins and keep Higgins as bench cover. I was using Rockliff as bench cover but due to both players form Pods has become my bench cover. Rocky has been outscoring so many premiums in my forward line that it has been doing my head in everytime he's on the bench and outscores the likes of Gia, Higgins and ROK who are on the field
I had a quick look at break evens and from a brief glance - with Gibbs 67 he will drop a fair bit unless he has a really big one - hayes and bartel have low break evens and likely to rise a fair bit - especially hayes who has been on the rise for the last month.
Higgins and Pods are probably as low as they'll get while Roo and Pav are likely to rise but I think the difference in price between Higgins/Pods and Roo/Pav won't end up being as much after this round as the difference between Gibbs and Hayes/Bartel.
Simpson is a great price for his DT ability but I don't think he's a massive upgrade on Gibbs - had a few down weeks but seems to be consistently around the 90-105 mark but doesn't tend to get the massive scores. The only players I would seriously consider for Gibbs who I don't already have are Hayes, Bartel, Pendles and possibly Cross. Pendles and Cross are getting a bit costly and would definitely be out of my reach next week with their massive scores on the weekend. There's no point trading Gibbs if it's not for one of the super premiums - the guys who you can virtually guarantee will get 100 but may well pull out a 130+ in any given week.
Fair enough, again I reckon that trading out Gibbs is probably not needed, but if you feel you really want to then I reckon go for Cross if you can get him. He is consistently getting great scores and has Essendon at Etihad in the last round, which should means he gets a handy score for you in what is hopefully the Grand Final game in your league.
2 trades left and just 2k in the bank:
DF: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Fisher, Hargrave, Hunt, Kennelly (L Hansen, Strijk)
MID: Ablett, Montagna, Gibbs, Boyd, Cassisi, Cooney (Bastinac, Moles)
RK: Sandilands, Tippett (Naitanui, Warnock)
FWD: Chapman, Pavlich, N Riewoldt, ROK, Brown, Rockliff, Rioli (Hitchcock, Lobbe)
Should I:
A) straight swap Rioli to J Riewoldt or any of the bulldogs forward brigade.
B) (less effective but no trade) DP Tippet back to the forwards and start either Naitanui or Warnock in the ruck.
C) downgrade either Hunt, Lachie Hansen or Kennelly in the defense (who I rotate depending on who they play) and being able to upgrade Rioli to the likes of Franklin/Goodes/Didak/S Johnson etc, but leaving my with no remaining trades (all bench players bar Lobbe are starting every game though).
D) do nothing, hope Hitchcock can do the job and save last 2 trades for emergencies
Any advice?
Depends, did you finish in the top 4. Cos if you did maybe do no trades this week and hope you get through leaving you with the break and 2 trades for your prelim?
Could you help me with some advice.
My starting midfield is Ablett, Montagna, Bartel, Gibbs, Simpson, Martin. I have 4 trades left.
Would you upgrade Martin to Swan or Boyd. I finished 1st and the rest of the top 4 has both Boyd and Swan.
I was thinking of going Boyd as he is cheaper but worried about Swan as he has the potential to score huge, espcially as captain?
Thanks for the advice. Honestly these are my 2 main issues. What's everyone doing with Carrazzo? Absolutely killing me this bloke, paid top dollar for him the week they decided to make him a tagger and has since probably averaged 60-70 since 'upgrading' to him.
Sorry 'probably 60-70' wasn't close enoughaveraging 71.33 from last 9 games
Definitely Sylvia... he's the form forward of the comp.Rioli to whom? already have SJ, buddy, didak, tippett, Rioli, Goodes, Davis.
can afford anyone bar Chappy. not sure help?
Option 3: Answer the person above you or **** offOption 1, trade Pods for Riewolt, stevie J or Griffen and have 1 spare trade and zero cash in bank
Option 2, Downgrade Hitchock who is now an expensive bench player, then trade Pods for Chapman and have no trades left.
My biggest concern is that after this round, i reckon Geelong & Collingwood might rest a heap of players like StKilda did last year and with my team heavily stacked with players from these 2 teams could put me in deep trouble if i dont have trades left, but without trading i might not get that far...
I have two trades left and 71k. The man I am concerned about is Pods. He has a very poor record away from Skilled Stadium and Geelong only have one game left there. With 71k left, Pavlich and Riewoldt look tempting. It would leave me with one trade left and 30k for a final trade. I have cover on all benches and some forward/midfield dual position links so it is very hard for me to achieve a zero. Should I stay put with Pods, or upgrade to Roo or Pav?
He has 3 out of his 4 games left at Etihad where he has a pretty sexy record atI agree Pods has been rubbish for quite a while, with Hawkins likely to stay in the team as a fwd/ruck Pods will struggle and needs to go. Riewolt posted a 90 point game against the bombers and seems to have his running game going again so reckon he could be a good pick up especially as very few people will have him.
For me, Chapman doesn't offer a whole trade more than Stevie J and Riewoldt for only 4 games worth, so i'd be looking at the first option. Riewoldt if you want consistency. Johnson if you want inconsistency. I'd say they'll average similarly in the last 4 rounds.Option 1, trade Pods for Riewolt, stevie J or Griffen and have 1 spare trade and zero cash in bank

Do you think it is too risky going in with one trade left to the first week of finals? I'm more going for overall ranking and am currently just in the top 7,000 and I'd like to crack the top 4-5 thousand so maybe a risky approach is better.
