Dustin Martin Available, are we interested?

Would you like the Eagles to chase Martin, hard?

Honestly believe that we are the next best team available for him to go too and it would be between us and GWS for his signature.

If I was him I would probably lock in GWS.... with there talent, draft picks, money and your Dad living in Sydney it looks like the best bet. You only have to look at the GC's natural progression this year as well to feel comfortable playing for them.

That bits annoying. IIRC his pretty tight with his old man as well

I'm super keen on what he brings to the table on the field but off the field by the sounds of things off the field he stinks like rotten eggs however that can't be the deciding factor when a player like Martin's available.

Would need to tidy up things off field but his worth giving up pick 6 and one of Rosa or Smith. Would depend a lot on the new coach and what they want as well but if we get Martin i hope we can get Choco Williams with him

I reckon GWS are in the box seat with pick number 1 but with us behind them. They have said it is available all along and in a package deal Taylor Adams may get his wish of going back to Victoria

RICHMOND LOSE Dustin Martin, GAIN Taylor Adams and pick 1. First dibs on Boyd if thats what they want
GWS LOSE Taylor Adams and pick 1, GAIN Dustin Martin
DUSTIN MARTIN gets a big pay packet
TAYLOR ADAMS gets to go home
TOM BOYD probably stays inside Victoria
... or he could walk into the PSD and GWS keep pick 1

I want the best available footballer we can get. Deal with the rest when we get him.

Tend to agree with this and I don't pretend to know what he's done to earn his bad boy reputation without guessing but

1) Richmond would most certainly know what, if anything, he has done including his commitment to training and have delined to meet his asking price in terms of salary
2) From whats been reported Richmond have gone to quite extensive lengths to help him and if they have been unsuccessful then I'm not sure how we, or any other club for that matter, could be sure of improving his attitude
3) I have reservations on paying a huge salary to a player on potential rather than proven output as it can create problems with the rest of the playing group when it comes to renegotiating contracts
4) Other clubs have arguably more to offer as a trade to Richmond or in the case of GWS can pick him up in the PSD without even offering a trade

Yes he's a risk but he's exactly the sort of player we need, don't see anyone else available that fills our need as well. I think we should go for him.

Do we even have to trade for him? He's not under contract FFS.

I'm of the belief that an out of contract player choosing to move interstate will get to their desired state in the PSD. Given Fremantle will be after your pick, it would mean you get him.

That will ruffle up some feathers, not a go at Eagles, because it devalues the players on your list currently, but ultimately I can't see clubs investing such large amounts of money on a player who didn't want to go there.

It's in the Melbourne clubs best interests to force trades because they hold no location influence like we do, there are nine other workplaces in Victoria.

GWS would, I reckon

There is no way he will come to us. Especially considering we don't even have a coach yet. He will either take the cash and go to GWS or maybe go to Melbourne to play under Roos, that would have to hold some sway in his decision, although they are utter crap, so maybe he would rather stay away from them. I also don't think after the cousins saga our club would be willing to risk taking on his "issues", I dare say we will just clone Priddis and draft the clone, or trade pick 6 for it.

Someone told me that his (Martin's) Brother used to play for Peel Thunder, and is now well settled in WA.

Who knows, but we may actually really be in the running for him.

Settled is a nice way of saying he is in gaol for trafficking.

1. No doubt he is chasing currency, and the reported offer from Richmond seems about right at the moment. I would say there reluctance to increase there offer is more to do with there pay structures than his performance.

2. Richmond have also said that this year they are proud of his effort and his growth as a person. To be fair Masten was reported to have "issues" and 17 other clubs all passed on Darling because of his "issues" to the point where one recruiter said he wouldn't pick him up with any pick

3. I agree.. if 500K is not enough then you'd have to pay him around $700... unless we have a TON of spare cash that is allot of money, possibly too much money...

4. I disagree with this.. Id be surprised if GWS gave up pick #1 and unless Melbourne get another pick id rule them out as well.. no player of his talent goes to the PSD, it just doesn't happen..

That's interesting. Would explain the handcuffs salute as well as the fact he was rumoured to be in Perth last week.

Also says Ben Cousins is a good friend and mentor so there's another link to WA.

I think that is meant to be a joke.

He's not in gaol, apparently he works in the mining industry.

Ah OK my bad. If he's from the eastern states and currently in WA I probably should have assumed he was working on the mines!! :D
