Dusty the Clanger King

Raise the bat, Dusty!

Meteoric Rise, I'm very disappointed that the Meteoric Stats Sheet Reviewer kept this very interesting statistic from us....
Crowd should be allowed on the ground when they reach 100 career clangers. Hope Buddy gets it this weekend.

See them as being like play and misses for a batsman in cricket. The most prominent bats will necessarily get the most play and misses, and the most inauspicious bats like Chris Martin and Glen McGrath will be nowhere near the top of the list for misplayed balls.

Please Sttew, if there are things you don't understand, just ask for help. :)
I wouldn’t be asking you for help unless I wanted a manual as a response

Why bring up Coldplay?

These threads become so predictable. :rolleyesv1: The worst thing is that people have actually researched this and thought he was somehow relevant.:confusedv1: Tall poppy syndrome is certainly still alive and well against star players and relevant supporter bases it would certainly seem. If I have trouble getting to sleep tonight, I'll be sure to read over this thread. :sleepv1:

Let me be clear to the Richmond apologists, Meteoric Rise and Noidnadroj the definition of ‘clanger’ in the context of AFL is as follows:

Clanger: An error made by a player resulting in a negative result for his side.

I know it pains you two to hear Dusty isn’t perfect. Just accept it!

We will happily accept Dusty's clangers thank you very much. And if you have another Dusty for us in this years draft we will happily accept his clangers as well. :)

Nah, not stunned at all.
Dusty has given us plenty of head shaking moments over the years.
Main reason I think, is that he's prepared to take a risk.
When those risky kicks come off, it's fun to watch.

Minimal clangers = low risk, low impact, vanilla footballers.

I love that the list includes most of the modern day greats, yet Stttew still thinks it’s relevant. I’d be more concerned if a player wasn’t on the list, and be asking why they are playing a vanilla style of footy that doesn’t result in many clangers.

Dusty's vanilla, all he does is the same old thing over and over...BOG in Grand Finals and other finals. Needs to wear a suit in the surf like Sttew's super hero. :)

I couldn't give a flying toss. It simply bemuses me that you guys cannot accept Dusty isn't perfect and have to put the usual Richmond spin on the stats. Mediocrity Crisis has managed to pull up stats for every facet of Dusty's game, yet somehow he never mentioned the wonderful and positive 100 clangers.

Lucked his way to five premierships, which is even more than what Joel Selwood ducked his way to.

I'm sure if Bartlett's brand of footy was anywhere near the battering kamikaze style of Selwood's, he would have been lucky to make it to 300 games. Hence, not coming close to the flags he eventually won.

You just made me feel a lot better about all those times I heard, "not good enough to get the edge." 😀

Agree with all of that
Especially that last paragraph

Looking at that list you could post that list of players and say it’s the list of the most damaging players to play AFL

All the guys on it are very aggressive in terms of how they attack with ball in hand in terms of trying to score

None of them would be anywhere near what would be considered bad users of the footy if anything they are some of the best we have ever seen
Um yeah, but Mitch Robinson is on that list too so..

Bartlett won his fourth flag in game 202.

The sea-gulling scab wouldn't have lasted 190 games if he was a contested player.
Roamed around without opponents, dropping the ball at his feet the moment someone tackled him. Ridiculously over-hyped.

Royce Hart sh*ts on him. Held down the most dominant position on the ground in an era when they beat the absolute crap out of key position players. It's no wonder the bloke now has serious health issues while managing only 180 odd games. That's what you call one of the true greats of the game.

Yeah, you’re right. KB was just a role player. Mind you, played it pretty well in the 1967 GF when he kicked three goals. Really made a difference in a nine point win. Makes you wonder how soft his opponents were.

I couldn't give a flying toss.

Oh no, he's far more than 100 career clangers....

That stat was 100 GAMES with 5 or more clangers.

He's ELITE at the clangers. Unprecedented in fact.
Oops, now I see. 1,242 career clangers, 20% more than the next on the list! Poor Dusty's only 5th on the list.

I know he's 36 and only has a one-year contract, but I'd let Buddy play on until he reaches 1500.
