Why compare those two Dwayne? One is from Sudan and the other from Australia.

Yes, they have skills, but so do lots of players. That's hardly a comparison.

The only similarity they have is .......... oh wait.

Height? Build? Athleticism? Rookie list?

There are a number of similarities without jumping straight to the colour of their skin you know.

...they were both outside the box selections who are excellent athletes and seen to have extreme potential?

So are lots and lots of white players. But I don't see any comparisons there.

Let's face it, given that they are both black and sorta tall, there is a perception by people like Dwayne that they are the same person.

You know how all Chinese/Black people look alike?

Liam doesn't have the build or height or Majak, and was never on our rookie list.

Lol, Jurrah is a lot smaller than what I thought he was. They are both athletic though, and left field selections. Maybe that's what dwayne was getting at

Yeah fair enough. I'm sure if Liam Jurrah was called John Smith, and this John Smith was identical in every way to Liam Jurrah except he was white, I'm sure Dwayne would have said the same thing.

Right?

To the Pies supporter: Liam doesn't have the build or height or Majak, and was never on our rookie list.

Would love to see Majak make it.

Isiah Stevens doesn't have the height of Jurrah either.

According to the 2011 AFL Prospectus:
  • Majak Daw - 195cm, 91kg
  • Liam Jurrah - 188cm, 83kg
  • Isiah Stevens - 183cm, 75kg (registered a 101cm running vertical leap at WA state screening, which equals that of Nic Naitanui)

Well why wouldn't he?

Any athletic John Smith's running around in the TAC Cup this year?

Is it racist to point out a basic observation. How is it racist comparing them? He's not comparing races...

I guess if you automatically compare a skilled Aboriginal/dark skinned player only to other Aboriginal/dark skinned players, rather than any other player, the assumption is that you believe that their skin colour is a major part of what it is they do, or the traits they have in common.

I'm not overly bothered by it, it's not a kind of 'harmful' racism, in that it's trying to demean a group, but I guess by the purest definition of racism (i.e. seeing differences in people based on their colour) it does show that to the commentator, the player's colour is central to who they are.

Is that what is referred to as 'casual racism'?

Dwayne Russel is on the same level of commentating as fellow Fox idiot Matthew Campbell.

He has no sense of the game, resorting to childish comments and bickering with his fellow commentators who have played the game and have some idea like Dunstall.

American commentators really make the Australians look like high school audio visual club sports commentators. Same goes with the network coverage.

Been watching WB v NM, Daw still looks very, very raw. Doubt he will play a senior game this season (if at all).

Has been very very good in the ruck today. A few handy marks around the ground as well. Hasn't set the world on fire but hasn't looked that far out of his depth.
