Its interesting. On one hand they want to look to the future, on the other hand as a rukle of thumb cant play youngsters in india and sub continent in general beacuse its really hard.
Be totally honest and objective, from what Konstas showed in his four hits did he stand out as a player with a technique that’s suited to turning decks in the subcontinent?

Probably nothing. But in that should selectors have instead left Konstas on the sidelines this summer?

Konstas will be fine and back for the WTC and Ashes.
I'm taking him to the Caribbean too.

He was too busy punishing the pacemen.

He showed good spin play ability in his dual shield tons. Is obvious as shield matches are not replayed many missed those knocks in their entirety.

Just as well they judged correctly as chances are had he not played we'd have lost the 4th Test and likely the series, as it was his sheer belligerence that lifted some of our batsmen out of their shells and put them in the same Konstas mindset. They are on record as saying that was the case.

Steve Smith needs one run to reach 10,000 in Test cricket, which would make him the fourth Australian to the milestone and 15th player overall. If he achieves the milestone in his next innings (205), he’d be the fifth fastest player overall to reach it in the history of the format (Brian Lara, 195, Sachin Tendulkar, 195, Kumar Sangakkara, 195, Ricky Ponting, 196).

From memory he was the fastest to 7k, 8K, 9k? Tho his figures have fallen specially last 12 months, the legends career average remains in the mid @50s.

Nothing. Definitely needs to improve there

Am reading that this is the first away series covered by an Aussie free to air channel since 1997. Congrats Network 7.

Sam Konstas took down Jasprit 'the assassin' Bumrah now he has copped a massive kick in the teeth and wont play his third Test match. Bewildering call by our selectors.
He rode his luck in the one innings he did well. It was based on some analysis one of the luckiest/streakiest knocks of recent times. Stop complaining for the sake of it.

I'm taking him to the Caribbean too.

They'll take him everywhere. And play him in Asia when they think he's ready.

Carribbean pitches are inconsistent and have become a bit more like Asian pitches, so at this stage him playing or not might still come down to the pitch.

It is a ridiculous call. And the prospect of debuting Inglis and not recalling McSweeney is just as rooted.

Why were Konstas and McSweeney even picked at all?

Horses for courses is a joke policy for batsmen.

In that respect, it would therefore be puzzling as to why he isnt playing today. Are CA trying to protect him from the perils and tough conditions in the sub continent? I think that's the confusing aspect to fans and supporters world wide.

Konstas's dismissals in Sydney were very poor but the blame has to be on the blokes who clearly told him to play that way. He's an aggressive player at Shield level but not a Chris Lynn.

What's the reason for Bringing Inglis in in place of Konstas exactly? Is Inglis a noted elite player of spin? It's not something I've noticed before or heard said of him. I'd be in favour of playing Konstas in some way shape or form. I'm not sure his technique is built to handle those conditions but there's no better way to learn. As others have said, previously we've played guys and they've learned how to handle the conditions. Getting Sam in at 19 yrs old will give him a big inside path.

Heard Gerard Whateley (or was it Craddock... I don't remember) suggest they were thinking about Konstas & Head opening with Khawaja at 3 and Labuschagne sliding down to 5, Smith staying at 4. I quite like that set up personally.

Inglis has always been ahead of McSweeney, it's just that the only position that opened this summer up was opener and Inglis is not an opener (mind you, neither is McSweeney). Inglis was the reserve batter all summer until his injury, averaged 50 last season and 72 this season in the Shield, and is noted as a better player of spin. They are not competing for the same position. McSweeney should be keeping his eye on Labuschagne's form as that's his natural position.

Not at all as a disruptor he did his job in the 1st innings at Melbourne but in saying that he had his fair share of luck (actually more than his fair share) and had a few things exposed. This is an educated guess from the selectors who are trying to win in the Sub Continent for the first time in a while on what looks to be a spin friendly deck. Konstas and Connolly were picked to tour primarily for experience. I wasn’t in Dubai but I think you can gather that both have a bit more work to do. I’m sure they will get more opportunities. But equally both have some challenges in front of them if they want to make it.

I’m ok with the spin selections but not so much with the omissions of Konstas and McSweeney. Good news for Inglis.

This series was the perfect opportunity to get some experience into the younger players. Oh well, I’m sure the selectors know what they’re doing.
