Eddie Betts : Who will he be remembered playing for for?

There are players who are seen as having there best footy at one of their clubs then you have ones that acheived greatness at two or more clubs

D Jarman Hawthorn / Adelaide cant be split
M Pike North / Brisbane probably less at his other clubs

Then you have players that have excelled at one of their clubs

Gehrig St Kilda
Betts Adelaide
Kennedy Sydney

Betts will clearly be remembered for playing much better at Adelaide

It's interesting that you mentioned Henderson. He's only played one year at Geelong, but like Danger, there was that feeling of a homecoming which exacerbates it somewhat. Hendo still needs to spend another season or two as a Cat before being remembered as one will be fait accampli.

Henderson has some work to do if he wants to be remembered at all.

As a Saints supporters through the Ross Lyon drafting and recruiting years, I somewhat feel Carlton's pain

Though at least Lyon didn't get rid of Betts quality players

Jeez, I reckon Betts could rock up to a game against North in his street clothes ten years after he's retired and jump the fence and run on and have snagged four goals in ten minutes.

I will see Betts as more of an Adelaide player. I think success magnifies where players are associated. Having said that, Judd had little success at Carlton but will probably be remembered equally at best, or perhaps even slightly more at Carlton.

Not sure how you call the below list "little success"
  1. Brownlow, AFLMVP, AFLCA Best Player Award
  2. Multiple All Australians, including AA Captain
  3. Multiple B&Fs
Perhaps less team success (though he did pull us from obscurity into a regular finals winner [courtesy of Richmond chokes])

I should have phrased it: "Carlton had little success while Judd was there."

Of course, individually Judd had a lot of success at Carlton. His best was still in an Eagles jumper, though.

How about Gary Ablett Junior? An interesting question.

Tony Lockett was named in the Saints' and Swans' TOC, if memory serves me right

Gaz jnr will be remembered as a former Geelong premiership player and former GC club captain. All time great player, not sure you identify him as predominately either club but if I had to choose one it would be Geelong due to clubs long family links.

Judds time at both clubs are vastly going to remembered differently as he was like 2 different players at both clubs.

WC - Judd was electric game breaking superstar who did his best work outside and breaking from the packs. Had claims to GOAT midfielder from the wider footballing public at the time (imo his footskills were what stopped him being so but that is just my own opinion).

Carlton - Judd had to change his game dramatically became much more inside and more involved in the dirty work often see him at the bottom of packs wrestling for the footy still had some occasions of his break away plays or running goals but much less frequent.

When I think of Judd I almost feel like I'm thinking of 2 separate players. But the WC judd was far more damaging.

I don't really care which club he is associated with as long as he helps the crows win a couple of flags! If he does he will remembered as a premiership player and in the same league as mcleod and rioli.

He will always be remembered at Carlton as the guy we knew was pretty good, and was kicking most of our goals, but didn't think he was worth a contract extension at $600k a season. I didn't think he was either, that makes us both fools. He will be remembered more for his football skills at Adelaide, particularly if they can jag a flag before he hangs up his boots.

Interesting thread if the rumours of Betts going back to Carlton eventuate

At the moment he has played 9 years at Carlton, 184 games and 290 goals. Played in 4 finals series for a 2-4 record

At Adelaide Betts has played 6 years, 132 games for 310 goals. Made 3 finals series for a 3-3 record including a grand final appearance

At this stage, he’s probably remembered as a dual club player who played his best years at Adelaide - had his biggest goal kicking years there and made the Gf so that trumps it.

There’s a chapter to be written though, a bit like Ablett at Geelong. If he came back to Carlton, had a couple of solid years while returning the Blues to finals I think the perspective changes.

In that case, he will become a Carlton great who the club treated poorly, with his exile in Adelaide a symptom of the club’s malaise. Our last finals series was Bett’s last year at the club so it would be fitting to bring him back as we rise again.

Blue or Crow?
I think both equally, similar to David Parkin who seems to be remembered equally as a Hawk and Blue.
