Eddie Betts : Who will he be remembered playing for for?

I see him as both.

He's played well at both and remembered fondly by both.

I sense he's pretty popular by the other 16 club's supporters to. That's a real compliment.

Betts played his best footy for Adelaide so naturally he will be remembered for that.

What I don't get however is now he is viewed as such a revered figure who neutrals seem to love, yet at Carlton he was a tool who wore baggy shorts. The flip in public perception over him is unprecedented, even though he hasn't changed the way he plays at all he is just now more consistent.
The stench of Carlton wore off when he became Exer Eddie, part of the People's Team.

Betts is a very good player. He is also a pretty good bloke it would appear. But the Adelaide Crow boy media blow so much smoke up his arse you could almost be forgiven for thinking he had only ever played for the Crows and was next in line for the Pope-ship.

Eddie will be remembered as both a Blues & Crows player, as has played many great games for both.

Hopefully he will be remembered for taking his game to the next level with the Crows.

For me its Adelaide because he took his next level there. He is clearly a better and more consistent player at the Crows so it's hard to look past that. It's all based largely on perception though.

Betts has taken his game to the next level and really gone into the elite area in the last few years, He is 30 years old with another 3-4 years to play.

Will be remembered as an Adelaide Champion when it all ends

It will come down to the team Eddie identifies with and is seen to be following the most, and the way he is referred to in the media after retirement.

Will always be remembered for both. All players who basically split their careers over 2 clubs are remembered for both, regardless of success and form. Brad ottens, Rhyce shaw, had much more success at their second teams but they're remembered at both.

Goldfish bowl. 184 games with Carlton won't be forgotten. He won't reach that for Adelaide. His form might be better in a stronger team but it has been 3 years only and it isn't as though he was average before that.

He likely will play more games for Carlton, but he will probably kick more goals for Adelaide, playing at higher level overall.

I'd say that makes a good case for being remembered as having played for both.

There's probably some recency bias about it but I'll probably remember him as a Crows person.

I'd make a case for Brian Lake being remembered as a champion of two clubs, if not for him shitting on the Dogs at every chance before the flag.

Burgoyne is an interesting one too. Could've retired happy after his Port career but his Hawthorn stint has been even more impressive.

I'd say there's a 60:40 rule.

If a player spends 60% or more at the first club, then people will remember them as that.
If a player spends 40% or more at the second club, then people will remember them as that.

Only 40% is needed for the second club because recent memories are fonder.

Interesting examples include Fraser Gehrig, Scott Cummings, Gavin Wanganeen and Barry Hall
Gherig, Saint
Cummings, Bomber
Wanganeen, Bomber
Hall, Dog- just kidding Swan

I've liked him ever since he went to the crows (I wonder why). I think he will be remembered as an Adelaide player because of the attention he gets there, even having "the Eddie Betts pocket".

I will probably remember him as an Adelaide player without forget what he did to us at Carlton. But to me, recency and cult figure status is probably the reason why I remember players. I see Judd as a Carlton player even though he had more success at West Coast because at West Coast, he was one of many stars. At Carlton, he was the star of the team by a mile. I guess when a player spends a long time at two clubs, the latter is probably the one that they will be remembered more. Except Buddy. He will always be a Hawthorn player to me.
