Yes well done to Avondale in the second half of the year a great effort :D

And re: finals well i would have to agree with Hutchy in terms of the top 4 being fairly even, over the years we have all witnessed what would seem unbeatable teams getting knocked off in the granny but i cant remember the last time the top 4 going into a finals series was so even which is great and i for one work pending will try and get to a couple of the finals matches :D

On another note how valuable is finishing top 2 do you think? I dont mean to ask a stupid question as it obviously gives you a double chance but im not sure if its as valuable as say the AFL so i guess im saying that it wouldnt surprise me if 3rd or 4th won it.Or do you think its crucial to finish top 2??? You would think Greenvale are a monty for 1st or second but the other 4 teams could all finish 2nd.

Big game this week S'more v Keilor and i guess Oakers v Avondale may be closer then what we would have thought. The mores have Marby next week and the Oakers in round 18 so a huge 3 weeks for them as they could go as high as 2nd or not make it at all.If the Mores can perform then we could have 5 legit contenders going into round 18 with one unlucky team missing out :)

THE DREBSTER

Your comp is one of the better ones getting around at the moment but could someone explain to me why your A grade still only has a top 4 and not a top 5?

Top 5 just lets another team in there that really doesn't deserve to be. This year for example if Strathmore (fifth placed team) can't knock off 2 off the top 4 teams in their next 3 games they won't make finals. So really if they don't make it its a better for the competition as teams that can't match it with the top 4 aren't in there.

Lets give Avondale Heights some credit for last weeks victory. We all know marby had a couple out but that still doesnt excuse them losing by 5 goals to a team with more than 10 players under the age of 20. The future is looking bright at Avondale with home grown talent coming through to play seniors.

Avondale have certainly had a good run of late and as pointed out by bangkicked quite a few of those who are performing well are home grown talent nicely balanced out with a few blokes from elsewhere.

That Cox can bloody well jump too! The jump on him is incredible.

I wouldn't worry too much about Marby's lack lusture effort of late, they have a history of coming good when it counts.

Maybe a top 10 and then we would be in the finals lol, and i wonder if they (EDFL) have considered a top 5

I like that idea Drebster , any thoughts on why the league after all year , the under 18 c being a top four and then changing the final series to just a grand final when Doutta's finished 3rd after beating both grand finalist's in the last 3 weeks , sounds like to me they didn't want to encourage under 18 football

This U18/3 comp is in it's infancy with DS being the new side in this year they obviously failed to understand the agreement that the originating clubs had with the EDFL from 2009 & that was to only play a Grand Final due to the number of sides participating.
If there was going to be a final series then it needed to be agreed at the start of the season. As with everything the EDFL does they will not change the rules mid season.
With that said I hope that other clubs take the some interest & the competition expands again in 2011. I am confident in saying that the clubs involved with not look back with any regrets.

Not my understanding of what went on after discussion with the DS president
I thought we wanted to encourage these boys that might not make A grade to continue to play and not be lost to Football I know every one of the DS players was under the impression it was a final 4 as was all the support staff and coaches ,if you Take it away you might not get the numbers towards the end of the season

Well Doutta Stars were wrong as it was always gonna been top 2 play off and the only time finals were considered was when the doutta stars went to the EDFL late in the season when they realized how the system worked. It would of been ridiculous to have a top 4 in a 5 team comp especially when Keilor and Haddy were so dominate. As someone said earlier it will be good if the comp expands next year and their is a proper finals series.

If that is the case then why did the league canvas the presidents on what they wanted to do just b4 the finals and of course Keilor and Hadfield after both being thrashed by Doutta Stars did not want any thing other than just a grand final , supposed to be a majority vote but it was not
NOT good for Footy in my opinion

The presidents were canvassed after Douttas found out the situation and complained to the EDFL. If Douttas wanted to play finals so badly they should of played well all year not just in the final few rounds when your A's were out of contention for finals. I really don't think having 80% of the league playing finals is good for footy either.

Interesting debate.

My question: how on earth is it fair that Keilor get a home grand final with about ten other venues being available.

Probably the only available ground that could host a night final and be able to charge people to get in. Doesn't make it fair though..........

TAC have 12 of the 13 teams playing finals. Greater Western Sydney will more than likely finish 12th, but have advised the comp that they do not wish to participate in finals. Which gives Bendigo there first taste of finals. If the higher levels can warrant this system, certainly the gurus at the EDFL can follow.

Had nothing to do with the a's being out of the race and all to do with school football finishing , we had boys playing school basketball and then coming back so we at least had a bench
every player in the wins against keilor and hadfield had qualified and played at least half the season as well as school sport and we finished one game behind in third

Just an opinion the AFL will most likely cap interchanges should the EDFL do that too

Still think Douttas wouldn't have been a threat at finals time there two big scalps were in nothing games at the end of the season when the top 2 had already been decided, Keilor had 15 players in that last game.
