Hillside did the same thing to Craigieburn a couple weeks ago turbo when they had the bye. Lots of familiar faces running around for Hillside. Agree i dont like it.

Yes Bissa a few familiar faces you might have seen over recent years but these players are now playing 3rds only hence the reason the 3rds got up and going at HS. I did see 1 players name who usually plays mostly reserves.

HS 3rds going ok by the results yet EK kicked 22 goals compared to 7 the week before. Huge turnaround and it stinks. Can you imagine a young kid with limited ability or a mature player who doesn’t train rucking against Phillpot or playing on this Perry guy..

I’m totally against clubs trying to manipulate the system for personal gain. What if Strathmore 3rds just miss out on finals by a game or %. That game is telling for those players..

I don’t like it as I see at least 2 senior players who played rd2 seniors v Roxy play 3rds during the bye weekend. Cooper Perry kicked 6. That’s a joke mate seriously..

There’s always things going on behind the scenes that the public aren’t aware of, maybe an interrupted pre season, maybe coming back from an injury. There’s always reasons as to why players might need an extra run yet everyone runs to the negative

But senior listed players shouldn’t be playing 3rds footy. That’s my argument here. It’s a 3rd”s semi serious competition

Don't care if Strathnote miss out because of it. Last year they had a second 19s side in div 2 19s. 2 weeks from the end of the season they were level on points with Roxy so when the 1st team had the bye that week they dropped all of their 1s119ss into the 2s side and knocked Roxy out of finals. The next week they forfeited due to lack of numbers. That stinks. Feel sorry for players getting dropped so these guns can come in and dominate

Oak Park v Roxy interesting game this week.

Hillside not as strong as previous years and going for youth and development rather than heavy recruiting and paying big $$ like some other clubs. Don’t have a problem with that as long as there is a future plan as they do have the base to build from within. HS Under 19s playing premier so that’s a positive for future development. Big plus for HS..
So after playing in a prelim HS effectively rebuilding? Was this the plan preseason or is it the outcome post revaluation of the list?

it would be unprofessional for any club that has a thirds not to utilize the bye rounds in any way it sees could benefit the club/ certain players . Come mid winter it may well be best that all 2nds up players be rested. But right now the EK coach did the right thing IMO , tipping the thirds blokes that didn't play cracked a few tinnies and enjoyed the game. Also think Cooper Perry might have a big one this week, a small kid that has played only a handful of games against men regardless of ability/ division. Good on him, he is an exciting young talent . And I believe it was big Philpotts first run for the year ,so hopefully for EK he can get excited about what's happening and become part of it too.
All positives

I disagree totally with your views. Hey it’s your opinion and I respect that, but that’s not what 3rds footy is about and the league needs to act swiftly on this. 3rds footy was introduced for kids coming out of 19s and not ready for senior footy or ready to commit to senior footy (mainly for clubs who had 2 under 19 sides) as well as those players who can’t train or commit every week and it keeps them involved in footy and around the club.

EK using it for the wrong reasons and it’s not right. Pure and simple.

I think you will find most clubs that have a bye and thirds playing will do something similar at this point of season.we will see

I highly doubt it. Rather enjoy the free weekend and get away from footy.. Is it the case of being contracted and told to play by the EK coaching group?? 👎👎

Completely agree turbo..
Blokes that play 3rds are either young kids or blokes who can’t or don’t want to train.. if clubs keep dropping back 1s and 2s players and flogging sides then those guys will walk away from playing..

It comes down to specific clubs and the way they manage things. The better clubs just wouldn’t allow this type of behaviour to happen as it’s detrimental to the club.

So I read that EK 3rds players were “supposedly” happy to be dropped and rather sink cans on the boundary. Somehow don’t think so. Also the 3rds coach should be supporting his group of players as this can create trouble over time and explode..

I’m guessing they sang the theme song loud as well.. Cmon..What’s next maybe a Phillpot might have a run in the supers..😂😂

you could be right. They might have a player driven alcohol ban, team rule in the EK thirds. Then again, maybe not.
And who may I ask are the "better clubs"? Just out of interest.

Most of those good young guys, Volpato, Bertollo, Colleta, Pulitano, Psaila and to a lesser extent L. Raynor would all be coming up to 22 years of age this year. With that group they played finals in 18, 17, missed by % in 16, and were 8th in 2015 when those guys would've been 18.

2 finals appearances in 4 years is acceptable I would've thought.

Hillside have brought in plenty of senior players over the last few seasons to top up their homegrowns and have failed to win a final. I’d be surprised if the hierarchy at HS would think that is acceptable.

Most of those recruits are now gone and they’ve also lost a couple of their top end home-growns.

Volpato & Coletta are genuine div1 guns at a young age but not sure the rest are good enough to take them to a flag.

I don't think they'll win a flag either. I would've thought they'd be rank outsiders behind Tulla, Craigieburn, EDS and AW in the last 4 years anyway.

Fair points and honest assessment.. They have another couple of younger kids who are progressing well but need some real top end talent around 28-31 to take them somewhere with guidance and knowledge.. Can’t purely rely on younger homegrowns to get you to the big dance.

EK by 80+ tomorrow

Just the one game on this week ? Lol

Ek by 30 over HS. Looking forward to see how they shape up against Craigieburn and Tulla

OP by 8 over RP. Loser could be in trouble ?

Eagles by 27 over WM. Should be a great game with the eagles drawing away late.

TM by 57 over TL. Tulla hard to be at home and get some momentum on the back of last week

Been hinting that a roxy win over OP could be on the cards for a few weeks.
Great for RP to get their first win, bad signs for OP. They’ve been in free fall since narrowly losing the 2016 prelim.

Full credit to roxy! They know how to play their ground and I gather it would have been very windy up there...

OP in big trouble
