EDFL Div 1 Discussion 2023

Would be interesting to go back and look at these in 12 months, a lot will change between now and November. Silly season about to begin!

Not to be taken too seriously, I’ll go -

1. St.Albans - Stable quality coach. They didn’t finish the season out but they pushed both grand finalists during the home and away. Have the budget to get the finishing touches.

2. Marby Park - Won’t play finals with the current list but expect Brodie to put a strong team together with his network. Too good of a coach with a premier base of kids, they will be there at the business end.
Pencil in lady’s day 😉

3. Hillside - Coaching appointment will be crucial, someone that can take that young group forward. Older players still run the show, Eg. Covelli picking and choosing where he plays. Have the foundation, add some match winners and a quality fwd to replace Josh and they can make another step. Plenty of cash just need to stop paying overs to players that don’t help them. The best players are homegrown and young - Ryan, Hearne, Pettigrove etc.

4. Craigieburn - bit of a surprise packet this year, Jacobs was a great appointment. Tulla’s CHB is going back and expect them to add a few more. Big watch

5. Rupertswood - Depth is still an issue to go all the way. Galea another year older won’t help either. Swallow and Landt missed a lot of games, probably need an another gun mid. Having finals every week available must have putting some money in the bank.

6. West Coburg - Didn’t lose a game. Deer Park not here, would need to lose alot to slip too far I think. Clearys back to Avondale would be a worry if true.

7. Moonee Valley - Arguably the best coach in the division. Can see them making a run if they can just add a bit more class. Play their own ground very well

8. Tullamarine - could be top 3, could be bottom 3. Have to wait until the DC show starts announcing recruits. He will go hard, but hearing about half of existing list will exit.

9. Roxy Park - Farrelly will leave a big hole. They played for him and punched above his weight. If true, and it’s Terra, then 9th might be the ceiling. Can’t afford to lose McFarlane

10. Keilor Park - Started well but faded badly. No depth. Were not much stronger than Tulla, Westy and Glenroy in the second half. Another looking for a new coach.

11. Oak Park - it’s a massive jump and haven’t seen enough to know how they’ll fair.

On the surface it looks like a really tough and even comp, let’s hope that’s the case!
The bye comes back too with 11 teams
Keilor park coach reappointed mate

Keilor would beat DP by minimum 10 goals this year
It'll be interesting to see how they go in the higher grade.
They'll need to recruit quite a few players but we know they will - They'll likely be competing with the likes of Abers, Gvale & EK who will also be looking to consolidate their positions as contenders.

The vision from Saturday final is now everywhere on social media. Brawls, Fights and Biffs plus Channel 10 it’s everywhere.

Based on the suspensions and fines from SA v HS expect West Coburg to be fined 40k and loss of 8-12 points plus player suspension obviously. Crowd behaviour was cowardly and disgusting.

DPS team this year was only a couple of player’s different to last year when they landed 4th in the wrfl……based on that , they were no certainties to win the wrfl had they stayed, therefore I would have them 5-8 in premier next year unless they have a massive list shuffle

Will be an interesting watxh. Just thought would get some chatter.

I did see Marby Park get Holland. Surely he is too good of a coach to be coaching in a second tier comp.

Based on?
In any event, he lives down & obviously has a strong connection to the club, I'm sure he'd be backing himself in to get them back to Premier footy.

Add a fit Greenough, Nash Holmes, Goater, Tom Mundy to the team that played in the wrfl last year and they win the wrfl by7 goals this year. Reality is WRFL has dropped down as is evidenced by the poor match last Sunday. I mean half the players were playing on one leg and point cook hit the wall at half time and the big boys couldn't get out of a trot. WRFL Premier and EDFL Div 1 are on a par and Deer Park won the EDFl Div 1 by 90 odd points. Say no more. BTW are Altona going to survive with no supporters at the finals match at Yarraville?. What is up at Altona given they were premiers in 2022 and they seemed to have loads of supporters?.

Altona ? wrong thread to be asking questions about Altona

Holmes , Dorgan , Mundy added

Greenhough and quick missed finals

Would have bolted in the WRFL this year but were smart and got away from the second tier rubbish

APW had a similar year to Deer Park last season and were middle of the road in Premier this season. I'd expect the same of Deer Park in 2024.
I also think to be successful in Premier you need at least 5-6 quality one pointers otherwise you get found out very quickly for depth.

But they did have, Mills, Kwame, Britten, Williams , Van Reit and Wills last year

"Pencil in lady's day" so there is some truth to the rumblings re Hollands departure from the Bullants following his antics at their last game of the season where that coincided with their ladies day? hahahaha

Wasnt he coaching the bullants?
Investing in a quality coach is a good thing. Plenty of money goes wasted on overrated players that don’t train or buy into the club.
He’s Ex AFL, EDFL premiership coach and VFL head coach. He’s resume is very good, character is more in question by some.
that and 60k of reasons to take the job on
What’s a really good Senior Coach worth ? Believe he might be doing it full time as well. $60k would be at the high end of Premier but that’s probably where they are aiming to be in 3-4 years. Senior coaches do a lot of work and hours and can have a huge influence on a club. No one comes close currently coaching in Div.1.

Asking 40-45k so 60k for Holland is around the mark pal.
