EDFL statement just released:
The charges against a West Coburg player arising from the match reports made in the Grand Final between Deer Park FC and West Coburg FC have been dealt with by the independent Tribunal.

As both parties are considering their respective appeal rights, the EDFL will not make announcements on this matter until it is finalised either on the hearing of the appeal (if one is lodged) or if no appeal is lodged on the expiration of the period of time allowed for the lodging of an appeal.

The EDFL has been informed that personal attacks and threats have been made on social media against the player charged and his family.

The EDFL condemns the making of threats against any individuals and points out that such actions are contrary to the EDFL policies, in particular its media policy.

12 weeks. 4 for the hit on Dorgan, 8 for the hit on Mckenzie.
Prior to Saturday, he had been suspended for six games, which means its now a total of 18 games.
Result = Automatically deregistered.
Is that some sort of joke. Taban from STAFC got 6 weeks for picking up a player from the ground and putting him back down. That's a weak as piss decision from the EDFL.

You're probably one of those flogs who said Tulla would get relegated midway through the season. If Tulla finish on the bottom in 2024, I'll run a lap of Windy Hill in the nude come GF day.
I don't see how they improve that much as they don't really have many juniors to call upon. Their 18s struggled most of the year so unless they land a really big fish or a number of good 2 and 3 pointers then I'm not sure where the improvement will come from.

Here's today's (Sep 20) Herald-Sun story (behind paywall):

The very last line sounds interesting.

EDFL: Jordan Gloury handed 12-week suspension, now facing life ban
A local footballer has been handed a huge ban over two hits which sparked a grand final brawl at the weekend with his career now hanging in the balance.
A local footballer could be banned for life after being suspended over two high hits that sparked a grand final brawl.
West Coburg playing assistant coach Jordan Gloury was last night handed a 12-week suspension for two hits during Saturday’s Essendon District Football League Division 1 grand final against Deer Park.
It’s understood the penalty has pushed Gloury over the life ban threshold of 16 weeks set by AFL Victoria.
The EDFL’s independent tribunal gave Gloury four weeks for his high hit on Jack Dorgan and another eight matches for the hit on Jake McKenzie, the brother of Port Adelaide defender Trent.
It’s believed an appeal is being considered by both parties.
In a statement released on Wednesday morning, the EDFL did not reveal the length of the ban handed down which had been confirmed by this masthead.
“The charges against a West Coburg player arising from the match reports made in the grand final between Deer Park FC and West Coburg FC have been dealt with by the independent tribunal,” the statement said.
“As both parties are considering their respective appeal rights, the EDFL will not make announcements on this matter until it is finalised either on the hearing of the appeal (if one is lodged) or if no appeal is lodged on the expiration of the period of time allowed for the lodging of an appeal.”
The league said it was also aware of Gloury being targeted online.
“The EDFL has been informed that personal attacks and threats have been made on social media against the player charged and his family,” the statement said.
“The EDFL condemns the making of threats against any individuals and points out that such actions are contrary to the EDFL policies, in particular its media policy.”
It’s understood further tribunal cases related to the grand final will take place later this week.

How are they going to do it GB ? Any potential recruits. Or just blind faith ?
Have a go at the ladder ?

All I'm saying is that Tulla will not finish on the bottom or particularly close to it. They'll be around the middle of the ladder.

I'm not gonna go into exactly why I think this but I'd definitely bet my left one that there will be no wooden spoon.

miles away from middle bunch and definitely need some substance to support that view

Only difference between Conell and Christofi is $$$

Im not condoning what Gloury did , however has anyone been given 8 weeks for striking in this comp ever . He was charged with striking , he hit the bloke, been going on for years, the bloke got up and played out the game . Every club has had a bloke reported for striking . Is their any chance we can just look at it for what it is .
Yes the footage is damning and looks very nasty, but the bloke got up and finished the game .
I will say it again that i dont condone it , its not on , but 8 weeks .
I know Im in for abuse and to be called out on this point but Im only looking at penalties given out over the years
Maybe the EDFL will continue to rule with this new iron fist !!!!
Please comment if your club has never had a player reported for striking

It is pretty ugly on the vision. Very lucky McKenzie didnt have a jaw broken. Not great optics for the EDFL that it was all over mainstream and social media. Throw in the elbow prior to the strike and it's simply not a good look. That's the sort of thing you would see in 70's -80's PF's/ GF's.

Keilor would beat DP by minimum 10 goals this year

Back in the day a player for Strathmore got 6 weeks for something similar to the first incident. (Elbowing)
I’d say he probably deserved 6 weeks for both incidents so 12 weeks is about right.

Did the player from keilor a couple of years ago get 11 weeks iirc, the one who we are not allowed to mention his name

Has the WC bloke been sighted yet for kicking the DP Captain ?. I saw it live and it was a blatant kick. Did anyone else see it and where can a replay of the match be found and I will try and pinpoint the incident.

Anyway, Deer Park know how to win flags and they know how to celebrate with a massive turn out at headquarters Saturday night. What a wonderful inclusive atmosphere it was with players, families and supporters all enjoying one anothers company. The players inviting all supporters into the huddle for the team song in the Windy Hill rooms is not something that happens often btw. Tom Mundy is a gun footballer & great human.
What have West Coburg been upto?.

I get you but that incident is a helluva lot more serious than your average striking charge.
Keep in mind, Leigh Burke received 36 weeks (reduced on appeal), for a similarly nasty incident.
