i was not being smart, (and i am in the team) i, like you and 98% of all the people would play this game for nothing if that was the going rate.
all i wanted to say to you and all the other young guys, s/more and any other teams for that matter, work hard for your spot and the rewards are better when they come.
take this or leave it.
i will be in touch (personally) with alot of you guys soon, not to mention the time i take to talk to you guys all year. so dont think im being smart.
and for everyone else. i was not comparing s/more with hawthorn, i was just noting how 2 individual champions at the afl level had to serve their time in a good club.

When are people going to get over the fact that at any football club there are gonna be players who earn good dollars. Player payments have been happening for years and seems to be well excepted in all other league forums besides this one.......

My uncle bloody 12-13 years ago was offered bloody good matchys to move from Westy to Sunbury and a few years before that from St.Dominics/North Melb 19s to Westy for a tad less. Looking back thats probably 15 plus years ago and the $$$ these guys where getting was almost as good as the money the boys get today. What im trying to prove is that player payments, and large player payments happen often and have been happening for longer than when alot of us where been born.

I know some people believe that when a football club dishes out the money that eventually it will have a reverse effects and eventually a downwad spiral will happen, however i believe thats utter crap. As long as the teams keeps winnning - the sponsors will keep sponsoring - the players will keep playing - the coach will keep coaching - and the supporters will keep coming.
North Heidelberg have been doing it for years in the DVFL, it will be the 4th year Seymour would have been a dominate side in the GV, Vermont have been dishing cash out for years in the EFL and constantly win or play in GFs an Balwyn have been the dominate side the SFL for decades and the coin they throw around is a joke.

With money comes players and success, and with well known and professional business men now runnng football clubs as businesses i think the days of clubs bunjy jumping of the wetsgate are preety much over. Strathmoore would be as proffesional as anyone else and ill doubt we would see anything drastic happen over there anytome soon, has it happen to Greenvale??

Mate I ahve no problem with clubs paying players, it's is as you say reality.

I also don't have a problem with SM, and amount they pay, read my previous posts on this, I think the way they run the club is fantastic.

My issue is with D cups coming on and saying he would play for nothing if that was the going rate !!!! Get real, if that was the case he would be at NCS playing for the price of a pair of socks and shorts with a pot on a saturday night.

The way he is trying to passify the SM Under 18's is a joke.

I think the concept escaped you Jama. If the going rate was nothing he'd still play at Strathmore. He wasn't looking for a club that pays nothing.
And SM's under 18's will have a good year in 07 with a new coach and enthusiastic playing group coming through. As for those going up to senior ranks plenty of oppurtunity if they're willing to put in the work. No different to any other club.

Rumours that APW is in talks with a few players......Cameron Eaton to return to the club for one more year, along with Johnny Taylor from pacco back to the club and Shaun Neeson from, i think maybe from willy and douttas (stand corrected though), he played juniors at APW i hear.

know o'neill pretty well, he tells me although all his best mates play at glenroy and he would love to play with them, his not ready to finish his career of there yet and still thinks he has a couple of years of good footy left in a grade.
