Loving the opinion piece written on Mick getting a young Sharks kid drafted… No U turns apparently pls mick stop the BS kid was getting drafted before you filled the kid and parents with BS!! Pretty standard advice play to your vision no U turns… nothing new here Mick!!

Quick parents - send your kids to Keilor Mick will get them drafted.

All well and good to have that opinion..

But some facts around the kid

He didn’t get picked at the start of last year in the Jets side. He played some really good senior footy for Keilor under Mick and then he got a crack at Jets as a bottom ager.

Can’t really argue that his form for Keilor was a big factor in him getting that Jets opportunity… he was obviously already in the squad but got his spot in the side

Came back in as a forward after Jets playing him as a defender in round 1.

3 kids drafted in last two years from Keilor, so I think Mick and club doing something right. Tommy will definitely go next year so when some other clubs start doing that let me know.

Whilst I'm sure these guys benefit from Mick's input, they're able to stockpile some of the best junior talent from across the western suburbs, if they weren't having players drafted it would be a surprise.
Given the latest draftee only played 11 games for Keilor, I can understand Hillside people being slightly bemused by the recent puff piece.

Not many expected Keighton to be drafted, to those in the know it was a shock he was even taken in the national

Was always held in high regard by the scouts just the western jets program is not rated highly as the other programs in the state. So it’s more difficult to get drafted from jets. Fact..

Haha was always in the jets calculations and whilst at HS he represented jets at the under 16 age group. You might find his last year at HS he didn’t play much as was at Jets. So you’re incorrect buddy.

was HS u 16 age group in 2022 and played one game 18-5s which happened to be grand final and kicked 5. only a moron would think he was a defender.

That’s the jets for you they are muppets, but they don’t get much assistance from AFL unlike other clubs. Heard a rumour they only were given 6 GPS trackers for both girls and boys sides whereas other clubs get heaps more.

I would suggest that afl clubs would place a lot of faith in what Mick McGuane has to say about the ability of a potential draftee under his tutelage. Mick would give a brutally honest opinion and there is no doubt recruiters would value that very highly when considering who they will use a draft selection on. Can anybody lay out a summary of the afl careers of players drafted from clubs when Mick has been coach?

No doubting his coaching record or what he puts into the job or his willingness to assist players and or AFL/VFL clubs just prefer they focus on their own juniors and grow/develop their own as don’t know why they need to go after after clubs better young talent. That’s my point in this this conversation.

The two this year didn’t play juniors at Keilor both pouched for status.

I know of at least 5 players that are going back to their home clubs after signing at EK this year.
