Agree, it’s not a major issue. Just would have preferred it to be at Windy Hill. I find Coburg a soulless venue. I’m sure others would disagree. Just my opinion.Think premier division can survive having an elimination final at Coburg.

Fair enough. This has been put up before, total BS, it’s not school, but sport, eg. If I played 200 games for Keilor and live in Hillside, I’ll take my kid to Keilor if I want, end of story.

Not sure Joey. Certainly hope not. It does seem to be an increasing trend across most of the comps, with the possible exception of the VAFA. There’s almost a degree of inevitably pre season as to the composition of the final 4 or 5. The others are desperately battling right from the outset every year to try and scrape together just enough wins to ensure they don’t get relegated. There is absolutely no hope under the present system that some of those clubs will ever play finals in the Premier Grade.
It must be exceptionally hard for some clubs, due to population and cultural demographics, lack of schools close by, shortage of sponsorship money, and also lack of football and financial expertise on their committees.
I’m not sure what the answer is. I know I’ve railed in the past ( only recently ) against giving extra player points to some clubs to try and ensure they are competitive. I look on it as a form of socialism, and find it hard to take seriously a competition where there are different handicap rules for some clubs over others.
You may find situation where a club with 47 player points wins the flag against a team with 41 player points. Or a team with 43 player points gets relegated, whilst a team with 47 player points survives. In my eyes a ludicrous situation. However it may be the only way to ensure a more even ( not necessarily fairer ) competition.
I know I didn’t really address your main point, which was more about the standard of the competition. But those are my thoughts.
Any 1 no who was invited 2 the league medal night or have a go at a team of the year squad

Coaches votes would be great idea.Tough one for any of us to select when we see opposition players twice a year.
If the league have a dedicated panel going to all games which I doubt, fair enough. Umpires might come across players in contention for half the season.
I like how the Northern league has the coaches votes each week. Coaches voting on opposition players would be a fair indicator to choose from.

I agree it’s a great idea. But try comparing the NFL web site versus EDFL web site. They are miles ahead. They televise all divisions and it’s more professional that EDFL. We are way behind sorry.. Coaches votes are a great idea but don’t hold your breath.
I also see the WRFL umpires have a sponsor’s logo on the back of there shirts. Great idea and it looks smart. Another forward thinking idea.
Can I ask why is the EDFL so far behind other leagues in moving with the times???

Everyone bagging this Comp saying it’s a 2 team comp for as long as we can see. Strathmore so close, Marby lost twice to Mores by less than a kick think it will open up over next few years. That was a hell of a prelim, shattered for Mores, threw everything they had at Abers. Good luck to all involved next week.
Great game of footy. Future is bright for strathmore, going to be a dominate force in 2-3 years when some of those young guns come into their prime. Not sure if 32 was injured or not but after nearly winning them the game off his own boot was a baffling decision to bring him off. Was absolutely on fire & was the only bloke looked like marking anything for them up forward, could have even dropped him behind the ballThat was a hell of a prelim, shattered for Mores, threw everything they had at Abers. Good luck to all involved next week.
Fair side. Scott Clarke must be included on the backline. Clearly in the best 10-15 players in the league. But good discussion
Fresh off promotion to Premier div, Craigieburn making moves. Courtney Dempsey and Kyle Reimers to reunite down at the eagles
Watched my first game of Premier for the year yesterday. Would it be fair to say since Browne left Kelior there is a lack of big dominant ruckman. Both starting rucks were young guys yesterday. Cachia was Abers 2nd ruckman. #32 for mores done a good job pinch hitting & up forward. How old is he? Is he Strathmore junior. Also found it strange @ 27 minute mark Abers bringing Cattapan off from the centre circle, while the ball was being throw up on the lawn bowls wing. Licking Abers won the clearance & Foster goaled from it.In all seriousness if Craigieburn go down this path they will go backwards. I hope they have learnt from previous experiences.
What I will admit is the Craigieburn supporters were well behaved during the finals. Maybe it was due to being in front but it was much better than previous seasons. That’s a huge positive as for clubs to prosper they must have well behaved supporters. Why do I say this? Well often recruits in the right age bracket will at times have families or girlfriends and if they don’t like the atmosphere the player ultimately won’t stay, no matter how much money is on offer. But credit to the committee.
Even the playing group seem focused on winning the footy. Full credit to Whitnall and his leaders. By what I witnessed yesterday they have a solid base to stay up beyond 1 season. They looked relatively young and played a good brand of footy that will go well in premier. Big Morrison is very good at div1 level but not sure how he will go at premier level as his not overly tall. Will struggle against the taller ruckman in premier division imo. He is definitely a competitor but not overly tall..Maybe he will play full forward at premier level??
