EDFL Premier Division 2016

Rumours circulating that Keilor have signed Luke McGuane and Dan Conners. It's only rumours so anyone else hearing these? If it's true Keilor will be right up there again.

Will be in local paper next edition turbo Mc Guane non playing assistant

Should that read Playing assistant coach as not sure he will win too many games moving the whiteboard magnets for his uncle.

This competition is getting ridiculous, in a good way and I look forward to watching plenty of quality games of local football in 2016.

Looks like KFC have found a treasure chest of cash with the change of committee last year. If these 2 signings are true then that will take them over the $300k spend easily

Strathmore having a crack after a disappointing 2015. Signed a couple of Willy VFL premiership players in Mangan and Tighe. Yes we all heard about Mangan but Tighe is a good get. But the question remains have they signed for the right reasons? As I know Strathmore offered both plenty of $$ and then increased it, with the sign on money clearly swaying both players. I Surely the highest paid at the club and both come with high points.
Good luck to Strathmore as they both are very good players with Tighe a quality ruckman. But let's see how it unfolds throughout the year as believe they will test out this points system.

Ok Mel I will have a crack.
My pre Xmas ladder prediction.

Strathmore
Pascoe Vale
Greenvale
Keilor
Aberfielde
Avondale Heights
Marby
West Coburg
Airport West
Doutta Stars

Please note, it's only my opinion pre Xmas.

Turbo, Mores have got heaps of points room still available.

No love for Abers Turbo? They may have lost a few players, but they are still a very classy outfit. No doubt they will be recruiting to replace the losses. Can't see them missing the finals.

Hey Stax's, that's good news re points, as I'm not a fan of the new points system. Think Tighe could be 7 points as changing clubs within 3 years and did win a B&F over in WA in 2013. Great get by your club mate, as a very, very good player. Can play ruck or key position, but will be interested to see how he goes on the tight Strathmore ground as he likes to move around.

I actually don't mind Abers but can't fit 5 into 4 that's all. Plus I'm thinking maybe Abers are going to play some younger guys next season instead of recruiting to cover some losses. But I'm just looking from the outside and it's an early season prediction mate, that's all.
I'm also thinking Douttas won't end up last as from all reports Airport West are struggling for numbers pre Xmas. Not much news coming out of Marby either but I do have a soft spot for them. Haha

In all honesty I really just put out my thoughts as it was going a bit quite on the premier thread and I was hoping to get some interest going again, as the boys on the div1 thread don't seem to like my inside knowledge on some clubs.. Lol

Cmon Canplay, I thought we were friends!! You have Pacco sliding from 3rd this year to 5th. Lol

Got told that Keilor have lost one of their best players in Ryan Bathie. That's a huge loss, as behind Browne he was easily their next best.

Just don't know how they fit everyone in under the points like Avondale I think there top 8-10 players will be great but there bottom half not so much.

Keilor have some massive ins and they were 4th. Opinions are like a**holes everyone's got them

Haha

Stax, I hope your not on the drink as its only Monday mate. Haha. Cmon Pacco looking to build on from last season not go backwards. Avondale have lost too many players and haven't covered for them all. The majority of the losses were quality players.. But interesting to see how the new coach goes as some strong personalities down there. Hopefully he gets the respect otherwise it will be all downhill after rd 5-6.

Only 10 or so weeks till praccie games start. Bring it on..

Able to list any recruits for Paco mate?
Obviously you may want to keep your cards close to your chest though.

Your right mate, all will be revealed in due course. Looks like another good year in EDFL premier but in my opinion possibly more even in the top 5-6 sides, without a dominant side like Abers of 2015.

That can only be a good thing, it's never good to see one side so much stronger than the rest. On paper at least anyway it looks like being a pretty hard to split top 6 or so, so sides will want to be switched on ever week.

With the draw now released EDS will know they are back in Premier Division with a SM, AB, GV start. They would do their best to pinch one of them although not sure which one!

Word at The Linc is they have recruited ok, some names mentioned but I hadn't heard of them and they also have a good batch of juniors coming through.

Yes I just heard a similar thing in that EDS have recruited 12 good players expected to be in there starting 22. That's very positive for a side coming back up however will be interested to see how they fit 10-12 new recruits into the 50 points per team. The majority of the better recruits will carry a min of 4 points so that doesn't leave a lot of room left. This to me an issue for clubs coming up from div1 as they do realistically need to recruit about 10-12 senior players to compete with the top clubs.

Also hearing EDS very unhappy with Kite leaving to play div1 again. All the effort & trouble to recruit him!

Long-time reader and I must commend you all on your knowledge of the EDFL, even more so your passion for each individual team.

2016 season looks to shape as a much closer affair than that of 2015, which saw Abers become premiers before the season started.

Being a West Coburg supporter, I must admit I am extremely happy with the points system as it provides a team with an equal opportunity. However it fundamentally supports the growth of junior football. Unfortunately in premier league the development of juniors is overlooked for short term gain. Though this is a two way street, teams want the ultimate glory now, players want to play senior football.

STAT ATTACK: WCFC was either up or down by two goals in 12 of its 18 games. With an average age of 22 and with another preseason under the belt, further improvement is expected and a push up the ladder isn’t beyond reach.

My ladder for 2016
1) Abers
2) Greenvale
3) Keilor
4) Strathmore/Pacco

6) West Coburg
7) Marby
8) Avondale
9) Douttas
10) APW

Above is obviously without the full knowledge of new recruits in 2016.

Looking forward to the new season.

Turbo, for the life of me, I'm utterly flabbergasted that some may not appreciate your incisive and knowledgeable insights into their clubs.
