The home and away season for the juniors is coming to an end and as such its time to select under 16 team of the year ..

the team will be selected from divisons 1,2 & 3.

i start with one of the most improved players in the league

first player to make it is

Shaun Stewart.(essendon doutta stars)

affectionately known this year as Mr.Fix it .

can play anywhere and has improved his versatility and playmaking this year.
shaun is most suited to the wing position where he can use his flair and long kicking to effective use ..

well done shaun who has had a fantatstic year to date.

stay tuned for our next 23 players to come ...

our next three players to be inducted into our under 16 team of the year are as follows:

Joel Cauchi (glenory)

any key position player who can kick 73 goals deserves a big mention as the leading goal kicker in divison 3 has to be in this side. the leading goalkickers in div 1 & 2 are midfielders and as such Joel gets a tick.

Josh Trembearth ( glenroy)

small foward /midfielder who knows and loves the goals .has had a brilliant year and makes a handy change over impact player in this side.

Zac Wuynham(keilor)

nuggety hard at it player who you would want in every team.. a specialist on the ground and around it..a leader in every manner of thinking. A leader on the field and off it.

so there it is the first four players..

20 to go ..stayed tuned

Have seen a bit of Josh this year and he's really improved a lot. Have the utmost respect for Zac and he's really done a great job at Keilor. Shaun has worked hard after some heartbreaking disappointments in the last 10 months. 73 goals and still 1 game plus finals to come is tremendous effort and well worth acknowledging.

the next players to be inducted into the 2013 under 16 team of the year are as follows:

Brendan Colletta (hillside)

at a key backman post this young gun has been a pleasure to watch ...against essendon doutta stars hardley anything went past him and has a grip of the ball like no other in the comp..good hands and long kick.

Jackson Volpato (hillside)

a nuggety teancious midfield foward who in the clinches is so tough and uncomprimising is unbelievable. jacko knows where and loves the goals...a successful under 16 western jets campaign and with a number of others unlucky not to get picked in the (under 16 vic metro side,,, who picked a side based on height rather than ability)..jackson is a pleasure to watch..

Jaiden Caruana(roxburgh park)

team man through and through...can be up and down but a trier non the less. when his on his on..big kick whose always shuns the limelight and be part of the team..can play foward or back..should look at playing in higher divison to help improve his footy.

Nathan Palumbo (essendon doutt stars)
has come foward this year in leaps and bounds... for his size has turned it on in an EDS star studded line up...rough tough and loves working hard for his team mates ..has improved out of sight.

Judd Brewster(Hadfield)
boy can this kid play...takes grabs and marks and uses his height to advantage...juddy has improved imensely and the only thing that lets him down is his left foot which can be so dangerous ..needs to get a right foot ..other than that a future star in the making..

15 of the best still come...see ya

why does caruana need to go higher division plays assumption first and played seniors at roxy when available and is also on cannons 16s list. How come you don,t suggest Brewster or the glenroy boys named go to a higher division

Round 14 and the last home and away game for the season.

Two games in particular stand out and that's the Pascoe Vale v Taylors Lakes game and Moonee Valley v Hadfield. If Pacco win and MV lose, then Pacco make finals. It's as simple as that.

In div 3 we shouldn't see any change to the ladder and the 5 should stay the same.

In div 1 the Abers v Greenvale should be a pretty decent contest, while the Hillside v Douttas game will be interesting especially in the wet weather which should dominate the weekend.

thank you so much harry 178 ...

ok here goes another five young guns to the under 16 team of the year & speaking of young...

Tyson Young (airport west)

a tall foward who can take big marks and make a huge prescence in the foward line .. a genuinely pleasant player and all that he requires is a bit of grunt in his game..big future here(watch)

Matthew Stillman ( greenvale)

100 % backman ..can hold a tag and a beautiful long kick .Was in the u 16 vic metro side..a side which didnt have a good championship but matthew held his own and was constantly named in the best. A Nick Maxwell type player..

Alexander Hymer (aberfeldie)

very much underrated has probably been abers best player all year and would expect him to win the clubs b & f by a mile. A quiet unassuming type who just gets the job done.

Zac Antovski(keilor)

Zac possess good height and is a quiet player who does the job..not flashy or x factor just does what he does and does it well.. a good mark and kick.

Matthew Condo(greenvale)

a general in the backline ..takes strong marks and a confidence player. he is necessary and his prescence in the back line is fantastic.

there you go... 10 of the best to come...thanks....

good morning all and here we are again thank GOD to add another five to the under 16 team of the year.

this is no easy feat and i didnt do it on my own so here goes.

Bruno Laguda (essendon doutta stars)

you have to have one of the fastest players in the game in this side ... leads division 1 goal kicking and this is a quite an achievement considering his a midfielder but lets not forget his team mates who give it to him..bruno is a hard player who gets the ball and loves running with it.

Josh Flower (greenvale)

gun small foward who loves a goal & can kick them dead eye from anywhere around 50..roxburgh park fc wouldve have been sorry to see him leave.

Tom Wallis(essendon doutta stars)

son of essendon premiership player Dean Wallis and with those credentials will probably end up father son in the draft in a couple of years.tommy is a lovely left footer whose a trier and if he wasnt injured im led to believe he wouldve been polling very well in the league best & fairest..

Tyler Vujanic (keilor)

sad to say this but probably the leagues only premier ruckman around, yes there are others but tyler is heads and shoulders above the others..

Peter Ntalianis( essendon doutta stars)

ex west coburg boy who with many others to made the journey to douttas to help improve his footy.
peter runs with flair and gets his share of the ball and is a determined footballer..

well thats 19 named now and only five remaining...stayed tuned to next week as the remaining five inductess are named..

Tyler would be lucky to have played 1 or 2 games for Keilor this year Zac maybe 3 or 4 due to playing for pegs so its a big call putting them in your so called team of the year I hope your not picking boys on their reputations.

A couple of eye catching results on the weekend.

Aberfeldie over Greenvale was a surprise, while it's fair to say Pascoe Vale won't be sending any Xmas cards the way of Hadfield this year after their shock loss to Moonee Valley.

Congrats to, Glenroy, Marby Park and Douttas on finishing 1st in the divisions and good luck to all the teams during the finals.

two players will be inducted today in the under 16 team of the year with the remaining three to be named tomorrow GOD willing ...these three will be the leadership group picked on the basis they have different types of leadership qualities and abilites & as a mixture make for fanatstic leadership...

James Leaney(essendon doutta stars)

quality player who is an extreme team player who probabaly gets hurt too much via his tenacious endeavour when attacking the ball ..always willing to dish it off and very shy and modest.

Lachie Myeres (eseendon doutta stars)

tough half foward who doesnt shirk the issue ..a lovely kick when on song...can be so damaging when he steps up and turns it on.

a huge GOOD MORNING to those interested on lookers who may have been following the under 16 team of the year ...

so before we get any more FARM ANIMALS making jelous & envious comments about any of the children here let it be known that a panel of 5 adjudged this team so lets get into it with the leadership group and then team in their positions...

The last three players and leadership group are:

Nick O'kearney (keilor)

a junior champion from the outset ..his football achievements to date have been nothing short of outstanding ..captain of the under 13 & 14 edfl rep sides..captain under 12 & 15 school boys..captain u 16 vic metro and will play TAC in 2014...u dont captain these sides without ability or capability..also was MVP for vic metro in the u 16 championships..the list is never ending... well done Nick..

Hisham Kerbatieh(hadfield)

in the front line this is the kid you call on..will not shirk an issue & can play anywhere on the field..has played senior football this year with outstanding success.. Captain courageous and team player..has been in the calder cannons system since the under 14 squad and continues to improve..won the MVP playing for the WORLD XV111 in the AFL NAB U 16 CHAMPIONSHIPS.. likened to scott pendelbury with lightening hand disposal.

Koolyn Briggs(essendon doutta stars)

briggsy has captain written all over him...a legend with the players who cannot help but love him...his ability to win the ball in contested situations is amazing..tough and uncomprimising... very popular young man who is well respected by his peers.

so there it is the under 16 team of the year...so lets now give you the team as they would lineup and would beat any team in the edfl handsdown...

-------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------A very good effort in constructing an U/16 team of the year. It is a very strong line-up containing a majority of the most talented kids in the league. Noticed that Stillman has not featured in your final position placement of players. Also agree with your remarks on Koolyn Briggs.

I'd fit Matty into my half forward line with Brewster to the bench to start with, then dropping him back to a more natural position along the HB line.

If there was one move I would make, it would be to have Koolyn as my stand alone Captain with the VC tags to the other two. He's just such an amazingly inspirational young man who lifts those around him with constant acts of bravery.

seen a bit of glenroy would start trembearth ahead of cauchi as he is the best player at glenroy by a mile.as for team leaders i agree with the 3 you have picked but would have to add jackson volpato to the leadership group . he is the best player in the team so would lead by example all in all its a great team they all deserve there spot they would be very hard to beat.

So here we are, FINALS TIME!!!!

In the Division 3 Qualifying final Avondale Heights meet Oak Park at Burnside Heights. I'm expecting a close game with the Heights to win and claim a berth against Glenroy next week.

I can't see Northern Saints having too many troubles with Burnside Heights in their game at Lionheart Reserve.

Division 2 offers up two games which should produce contrasting results.

At Lakeside Oval Airport West play Hadfield and this really should be a great game. There's nothing between the two sides and the bounce of the ball could settle this one.

I'll go with AW by a couple of goals.

In the other game Westmeadows play Moonee Valley Highgate #2 and I really expect West to win this game well.

Word has it Keilor will be short handed for their game against Greenvale at Keilor Pk Reserve with school footy taking priority for some players. Now usually that would be bad news for Keilor and great news for the Jets, but they've got an average record against Keilor and they were well beaten last week too. I just don't know who to tip here. Greenvale really should win, but can they?

I'll go with them by 10 points, but a loss wouldn't surprise.

The other match is between Hillside and Aberfeldie at Leo Dineen Reserve and I really expect the physicality of Hillside to be a bit too much for Abers to handle. Hillside by 26 points.

All matches are due for first bounce at 2.20pm. Good luck to all clubs.

Anyone know which clubs will be relegated/promoted in juniors for 2014.

Based on H&A results I would think Marby will go to div 1 & West Coburg to div 2.

Wont be that simple. My understanding is there will be a massive overhaul of the current junior structure. The fact is the average winning margins are just too high to ignore. I expect the division 4 clubs to be integrated into div 2 & div 3 with the non competitive club/teams being put in more realistic divisions.
There will sure be some outcry but it will be better for the competition.

I think it's great news if that's the case. Long overdue.

I like the idea, but will have its own issues.

So for example, you could have Keilor,Abers,Hillside old div 4 teams now playing in div 2, against the likes of Hadfield, Airport West, Westmeadows, Roxburgh,Moonee Valley. Then you still have div 1 sides such as Strathmore,Greenvale,Craigieburn,Doutta Stars, where do their div 4 sides play. You can't have them playing div 3 against Taylors Lakes,Pascoe vale,East Keilor, Avondale.

Really you should be able to look back 2 years results to see what clubs/teams were strong in certain divisions. Most occasions bar u10's the results will replicate every 2 years.

Anyone get to the games?

Sounds like both Div 1 games were thrillers.

I went and watched a Div 4 game and the gap between team 4 and 5 was quite noticeable.

heard there were some real thrillers in div 1&2 any chance of recap of the games?

Had to head out to windy tullamarine today. Thought it was rather funny when I saw who the kids first officer was for Keilor in the u14s. How you can be booted from 2 clubs and given that job is beyond me. Especially when it wa clear he was coaching the side. Fantastic game in the 16s withAbers getting up by a point. Tried to get a feel of things after the game on the ground and heard a certain player say "at least I've got senior finals ahead."
Mmmm not the best attitude I would have thought. Anyway, can't wait to see how close greenvale get next week. Good luck. Remember, it doesn't matter how many people back you up. The law is the law.
