Hello all and welcome back to another exciting year for potential AFL draftees, this thread will be dedicated to all things draft in 2021 and beyond. Be on the lookout for player notes, rankings and a rolling mock draft which have become a staple and as always I’m happy to answer any draft questions you may have.

Neil Erasmus with the best game I’ve seen him play, was pure class in the midfield with some real Hugh McCluggage vibes. Looking like the first WA prospect to get taken this year

Heard he was a bit like his brother and very much would love another version of Chad.
Completely different players mate.
Corey is taller and more outside. In saying that I have seen him with some agility in traffic, so he may be able to develop a larger inside game.
Like his brother though, he just knows how to football.

You may be right mate. Very good today. I still hold out hope he lasts until our first.
I think youre underselling Dittmar a bit too. He is a bull but he also has speed out of the stoppage A great, set of hands and his kicking is preety good for an inside mid.

Your club’s drafting strategy is unique for Victorian based clubs, usually trying to take the best local Geelong boys where possible and not afraid to take mature agers aswell. I think drafting best available and trading for needs has been a great strategy for your club for years and feel that trend will continue so yeah I wouldn’t go into the draft expecting the cats to factor needs much.

Sounds about right.

WE like to use the gohome factor when interstate clubs draft locals ... and if there is a choice between a local and a non local and they basically much the same we will draft local ... but as last year showed .. we do not always go straight to the Falcons ..with Holmes, Neale and Stevens.

Doesn’t help when the clear best Falcons players get taken before your pick though 😂

eD ... where do you see Tom Brown long term... mid/HB? Is he a similar player to his father?
I don’t know a lot about how his father played, Brown could play Hb, HF or wing and at this stage it’s hard to say which position will be his best. He is the athletic ability and skills to do well in a range of spots.

tell me about. Id love for them to introduce a few revisions.... can we draft a local every 2 or 3 years if you have had no nga or FS ... Also with FSon. 50-99 game. no matching bid on R1 (like NGA).... too many players lose out to injury ...100 games ... imagine Coleman missed out on playing for Ess.
We have a couple this year and one coming up I think in the son of JSnell who snapped an ankle never to play again ....

Sounds like his dad. Its been a while but Paul started forward kicking 5 in a game a couple of times , and eventually moved back.

I'm not looking at our draft system and thinking clubs like Geelong need more help to draft F/Ss. Many clubs have already been precluded from that kind of advantage due to the current system.

eDPS ..just a question for crows fans. With the win last night and a likely finish meaning they end up with say pick 3 or 4, which of the mids in this years draft that are likely to be on the board at their 1st pick would you see as a best fit for our club - if you are happy to offer up a call on that before the champs?

Imo Callahan or goater are perfect fits, though when Sloane and laird are at the end of their careers you’ve nearly got a blank slate in the midfield. Who are you building around? Keays, berg and Milera? So could take best available. But a running mid would fit well. Hope you stay away from goater tho.

I had Arlo Draper or Matthew Roberts not just for the local factor but because they are currently in that mix.

From what I understand there is little chance he isn’t a first round pick
Mate, we have a bloke on our board wanting to paint Roberts as a low ceiling, unathletic, disappointing pick. He’s quoted some combine testing results from earlier this year - can’t find any, are you aware of any testing results?

Lairds only 27 so he'll be around a while longer, Schoenberg and Keays would be the other two at the moment with hopes that Berry and Pedlar will come into the rotations eventually with Sholl and Milera on the wings.

Still, definitely need at least one classy mid this off-season. Our first pick absolutely must be a mid, lucky there's loads of highly rated mids at the top this year.

Hi mate - I enjoy your viewpoint on the young blokes coming through.

What’s your take on Jack Williams and his last few games? He seems to have slipped down a bit. And do you think Woewodin’s chances are going up or down with each game?

Also, I’m sure they will be trying to get at least one or two U19’s games in although I’m not sure if there is a cut off date after which they wouldn’t bother anymore? Do you think recruiters have seen enough of kids nation wide this year with all of them having played at least some NAB/U19 selection games/WAFL/SANFL/APS and all equivalent comps so that if the U19’s don’t go ahead then thats enough? I guess it’s more than last year’s crop got to play. Some kids will be disadvantaged and some advantaged with the unusual years.

I know this isn't my thread but I'm very glad someone has brought young Taj up on here. Going back and watching a bit of him as well as the WA 19s games, he's looking better and better imo. Doubtful he gets a look in early on (in the top 30) but from the late second round onwards there's worse options being spoken about more imo, clean with the footy and positions well around stoppages and in the backline, seems like a skillset that Melbourne could be looking for to some degree

Cheers mate

Williams has shown some good form this year but he hasn’t been able to show of any athleticism which is a key area clubs look for in talls especially early in the draft. Might need a big champs to make a case for the top 20. Woewodin is a neat little player, certainly not the flashiest but gets the job done most weeks with clean disposal and smarts, he can of course play better each game to get noticed but im not sure he will be capable of a top 30 bid at least.

Clubs certainly want to see the others states best kids go head to head to get a true read on the prospects but I’m sure they would still have a fairly rough idea of who they really like.

Yeah I find him smooth and skilful without being a game breaker. I think there’s a spot for him on a list with someone.

Thanks. Agreed on both players. I think Woewodin is smart with lovely skills - a very capable support act without being the star.

It’s always been a but confusing with where Williams sits and his recent game write-ups (or lack of) have done nothing to clear that up. Getting in the AFL academy potentially set high expectations and the question remains if he will meet that ceiling. Would love to see him play against the best but his last two games against lesser opposition are worrying. That said, once drafted -and that is certainty - it doesn’t really matter how he played this year.
