Many were surprised we went so early, but it could give the young player the job security he needs to allow him to apply for a mortgage and put down roots.

exactly, and you have to tee him up with a cute melbourne girl and get him hitched....the player development area should be working full-time on this...

It wasn't always heading this way, when his back soreness in February developed into something more serious.

"It quickly progressed and got a bit worse. I just had scans and didn't need surgery, but it was set to be a two-month injury and it became a three-month time on the sidelines in the end," Allan told AFL.com.au.

Given that not a single AFL player has declared themselves as gay or non binary, I think it's a pretty safe bet, and if not, what can you do? Only Danielle Laidley has differentiated herself from the norm. I guess you make assumptions until you know different. You can't just continually pussy-foot around afraid to step on someone's toes.

Good thing he came to a club that welcomes recruits that require a spot of bone fileting, whether it be toes, fingers or in Ed's case, vertebrae.

Judd would not bounce the ball until the initial 11 steps or so allowed.
Makes me furious watching players bounce after a couple of steps.
I have faith in Edward.

Run FFS the full distance before bouncing. How dumb are some players
I was an early bouncer after say 4 or 5 steps because it provided options. I saw it as a way of negating the instance where you get pinged for either HTB or running too far as you have those couple of extra steps up your sleeve to make an evasive manuever.

Ed is really starting to show why he was rated so highly but after watching the game on sat, he still looks a bit raw. I don't think we need to rush him in the side. Give him more time to refine his game and learn his potential role for when he does come in. I have no doubt that he will play seniors this year though

Agree, not many 18 yo with growth spurt injury and 2 games in, demand a senior call up!

I have high hopes but he still has a way to go.

I dont think he would have ever have gone top 5. I think he sits outside that but not by much.
Cadman went 1 is a sort after key fwd. Ashcroft at 2. Sheezel at 3. Wardlaw 4 didnt play much more than Allan but looks a gun. Id take Phillipou ahead of him. Essendon felt Tsatas was better. McKenzie also looks really good as well.
If I had a choice and I was Carlton I would have chosen Allan over Hollands at 11(who is a good player) because playing a similar role Allan has more upside longer term.
Think Ed is already showing more potential than McKenzie, who struggles to kick 40m. Think that’s where he sits in the draft, but could easily become a top 3 talent.

Pretty sure he's not showing more potential playing solid in the VFL than a kid who when actually given mid time looks just as good as Ashcroft. Not sure what kicking distance has to do with it, Mackenzie's coach could barely kick 40m too, but was an absolute gun.

That being said, his attributes are pretty exciting, and probably the most interesting midfield prospect we've had in a while (considering Nick to be half back more than mid at this point).

He does and he's always played as an inside midfielder.
On a wing for now.
To me at worst he is a goal to goal wingman and more skilled version Kamdyn McIntosh who can play 200 games.

Its whether he can utilise his size aerially and his pace to become an A grade mid. Maybe he can maybe he cant either way very happy with him.

Interesting to see Jyhe Clarke has struggled to get more than 9 touches in his first 2 VFL games.

Not sure if anyone saw Mason Woods BOG performance on the weekend, but I think STK has potentially identified an archetype for future wingers: huge tank to cover the ground, but tall to be another marking inceptor when the opposition tries to kick out of the backline. No-one would be better equipped to play such a role than Ed. I see big things for him on the wing.

would still prefer to see him spend the year in the twos.... keep building his confidence and fill out a bit. Let the mature bodies have a run around in the 1's - Carmy, Macrae, maybe Arlo & Richards. One more pre-season for Ed and he should be ready to step up & have a decent influence.... two more and he goes bang

I remember Mitchell kicking a goal from outside 50m on his wrong foot. He had no problems at all kicking over 40m.

Matthew Richardson & Blicavs say hi. Not trying to be a smart a**, as I agree. Its been done before though, with a big impact IF you have the right player. Buddy and Cameron have also dominated when switched to wing type roles, but youre obv giving up a lot when moving them away from goals.

Ed has yet to show much aerial work though, as I think he prefers the inside / run / outside work more, rather than outside / run / aerial combo. May come though...

Goodes also says hi. Wasn't his second Brownlow as a wingman?

Weird comment wasn’t it? Mitchell was capable of roosting from outside 50 on both feet, no idea why anyone would think he couldn’t kick more than 40m when long accurate kicking was pretty much his specialty.
