We need to take a punt on a tall, mobile forward in the lower rounds. Even a 2nd rounder on Matthew Allen would be fine by me. Strong in the air, good 2nd efforts at ground level. Even if he doesn't eventually develop to our satisfaction we just need to take our chances and recruit the type of players that might have some chance of improving our structure.

So get a crap tall player over a good small player? If we want project talls, then surely our later picks will suffice. Use the four early ones on quality players.

Sam skinner? Jesse glass-mchshhdher ? Ben McKay? Big gach? Harry himmelberg?

Imo, these 5 players are all better than Allen and at least 3 of them should be available at 24/25

Daniher and Harry McKay are actually too similar.
Yes, we've got to cease cluttering up the forward line with ruck-sized players. We've been doing it for too long. We need tall mobile options that offer dynamism in a variety of situations not 2 metre beanpoles that clunk the odd mark and not much else. Weideman might fit the bill, but it's a big call, him not having basically played in 2 years.

I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear: TALL MOBILE FORWARDS.

Weideman is the perfect height.
Funnily enough, we might even make Francis play that medium lead up role.

Unless I've missed something, Emma Q has Mathieson not in the top 24. (inc academy).

I'd really love the mathieson/parish duo. I think being close friends they'd be able to work together and push each other harder, and I think mathieson is an awesome prospect even at a pick in the early teens. I think he's awesome on the inside, finds the ball well and goes in hard but his disposal lets him down. Can be worked on, but the ability to find the ball on the inside is there. I never actually thought Mathieson would get past pick 10 personally, for me his type is golden

Hopefully if this is how it plays out, we find a tall at the other second in Skinner or McKay.

Ok so we will end up with 2 of francis, Oliver, weid, parish with picks 4 and 5 then rioli and ryan Clarke or Rhys mathieson with picks 24 and 25 , Mitch brown and Dan coghlan late is the hot tip

Mate of mine is a recruiter for another club.
They believe Oliver is bound to go to demons.
Francis to Essendon. They believe Essendon leaning towards parish over Weideman.
If Oliver is available bombers will take him.
Expect Okearney to land at Essendon if available at 50.
Merv Keane loves him apparently.
All innuendo it takes just one left field selection for a chain reaction.
Any chance Burton slides to one of our second rounders? If we could snare him and (potentially) get say:
#4: Francis
#5: Parish/Curnow/Weideman/Oliver
#24: Burton
#25: Bonner

Plus the later picks we could possibly "win" the draft so to speak.

Head recruiter mate of another club?

Gee his intel sounds spot on based on the 3 phantom drafts today/yday

On McKay? Seeing young forwards come through the system in recent years. Take Spencer White for example, all the athleticism in the world yet he lacked the smarts required and had a bit of an issue with his tank. Matthew Allen from this year, shown he can kick goals in most competitions but lacks the smarts to be anything more than a lead-mark-covert full forward/centre half forward. Ben Griffiths is another who will never be a consistent threat in front of goals either.

Although all of this is just my opinion, I'm not forcing you to take it on but just take a look back at some drafts and tell me which tall forwards didn't make it and what they struggled with.

Agree with this post - Not in favour of taking 200cm tall forwards, unless they have footy smarts - Prefer guys in the 193 to 196cm range.

The Rioli dream is over wont be at the red n black sorry MarkG i wanted him aswell

Matthieson not in the top 24 including academy picks for Emma Quayle our draft numbers on that are 28 and 29 so still 7 picks in between that time.

So far Cole, Bonner, Morgan, B.Mckay, R.Clarke, Matthieson, Skinner, Redman, Fiorini, Mountford havnt been taken yet in her draft so hopefully one or 2 of those first 6 named get to us.

Id be happy with Skinner aswell just no alignment to him yet.

Mountford, Fiorini, Redman have at aome point been aligned.

O' Kearny, Nuyon, Hardwick and M.Brown aligned later on

I dont mind Hardwick actually now just with a later pick.
