I think you will find the short-comings of EFC from 2 years ago, will not excuse Ports own potential breaking of the rules, and whatever sancations may result. ;)
Fair enough. I certainly wouldnt expect problems at the EFC anew, but in a mountain range of concerns this is a pretty small molehill.
A deal will get done in the end. Just not one involving HH wingard or wines.

How about this: Ryder to Melbourne for Pick 3, Melbourne on-trade Ryder to Port for pick 37 and Alipate Carlisle or straight swap for Jackson Trengrove? They need a key defender badly so they could be interested in something like this.

The deal mentioned on the Age involving making Ryder a free agent is pretty cool. We'd effectively end up with picks 17 and 20 for Ryder, much better than Ports second round pick we thought we might get.

Would effectively leave us with picks 17, 20 + 21 Not a bad result really

Lets break this down again shall we?

As it stands and out of contract (thank's to Doss's dossier of contract status' thread located at the top of this forums list) are;

Dustin Fletcher (veteran - unrestricted free agent)
Sean Gregory (rumoured to have been delisted)
Will Hams (rumoured 1 year deal)
Kyle Hardingham (exploring his options but likely delisted)
Ben Howlett (exploring his options)

Elliot Kavanagh (exploring his options)
Leroy Jetta (quit the club)
Paddy Ryder (requested a trade picks 17 + 21? sign me up)
Dylan Van Unen (likely delisted)
Jason Winderlich (retired or playing elsewhere?)

Paddy Ambrose (Rookie Upgrade for 2015)
Corey Dell'Ollio (likely delisted)
Ariel Steinberg (Potential Rookie upgrade for 2015)
Fraser Thurlow (likely delisted)
Connor McKenna (Cat B Rookie list)
Johnny Rayner (Cat B Rookie List)

I would look at these trades;

Ben Howlett
> Carlton (pick43)
or
> West Coast (Callum Sinclair + pick 48)

Paddy Ryder
> Port Adelaide (picks 17, 21)

That would leave us with 7 picks (5 live) in the National Draft.

17, 20, 21, 48, 50, 68 (Ambrose rookie upgrade), 86 (Steinberg rookie upgrade)

Pick 17: Peter Bampton, Jordan DeGoey, Connor Blakely
Pick 20: Nakia Cockatoo, Jarrod Pickett, Dean Gore
Pick 21: see above

Pick 48: Sam Baulderstone, Sam Tagliabue, Mark Kovacevic
Pick 50: Jack Cripps, Matthew Hammelman, Tom Lamb
Pick 68: Paddy Ambrose (rookie upgrade)
Pick 86 Ariel Steinberg (rookie upgrade)

Rookie draft: KPP, utility, inside midfielder, small forward

Not that it changes your draft, but you're assuming Hardy/Kav for 17?

Great deal for both clubs. Would be crazy not to try and work something around that to satisy everybody.

Don't want Kav part of that deal. Port would already be laughing getting Ryder for **** all and if we throw in Kav they could end up with the best two players from the trade.

To be honest I find the whole idea of the free agent deal disgusting.

If we have to give up anyone, definitely Hardingham. Keep Kav. Hardingham might fit port well too. Likes to run and give rebound. Gives them an alternative option should o'shea leave.

As far as the trades go I'd do the West Coast one for Howlett. Having 3 picks inside the top 25 is very very good basically wipes out draft sanctions.

In the draft I'd probably go
Pick 17: Nakia Cockatoo
Pick 20: Reece McKenzie
Pick 21: Ed Vickers-Willis
Then after that a ruckman and the best available mids/KPP's.

In the RD a project KPF/one that hasn't played much because of inury or something.

Also should we look at trading Pears? I'm not sure he'll get games any time soon.

If kavanagh can't get a game a head of Melksham and howlett, he isn't any good. Plus he wants to go. heck him off as far as I'm concerned. If we get a pick in the 20's for him is double what we would get for him on the open market. Hardingham even has more currency.

But its silly season and Kav is young so he has to be a future brownlow medallist

In what parallel universe is Kavanagh a "best player"? Plus an additional player would actually cause us issues as we would need to delist another player to take the requisite number of draft picks. A combination of draft picks for 17 would be better for that reason.

"they could end up with the best two players from the trade"

Well i guess given there would only be two players moving in that scenario, both from Essendon to Port, then it does kind of stand to reason they would be the two best
I think the point was that Ryder and Kav could easily end up being far superior to the picks, which are really an educated gamble at best.

Hang on, so Port Adelaide pick up Patrick Ryder and all they give us is pick 17, yet we then have to give them another player for it??
