Tonight (and probably tomorrow) are great examples of why I think Paul Roos is right to be bringing in more than just draft picks to rebuild the Dees. St Kilda, with the way they're looking at the three kids they'll bring in at 1, 21 & 22 seem to think these guys will save the club themselves. Imagine being 17 or 18 years old and having that kind of pressure on you!

People forget that so many of these players deemed later in the draft order don't even realise how much better they can prepare and play because of their age.

Phantom drafts ( from the experts ) indicate that this is a wide open draft pool. It appears that EFC will get their desired players at 17 and 20. Then we'll find out how these players will be.

ok ive made my character judgements via watching the draftees talk on the grill.

McCartin - doofus
Miller - dude
Ellis - boring
Petracca - arrogant
Garlett - mega dude
Cordy - humerous dude.

so we could fill our dude quota with garlett and miller but i didnt see enough of weller talk to make a judgement...

If we don't draft Garlett I won't support Essendon next year.
You got a couple of bites!

Everyone, just a bit of housekeeping: there are two threads currently in deleted (not visible to non-mods) state, reserved for the players we select at picks 17 and 20 tonight.

Please do not create duplicates. A short time before the draft starts, we'll make the threads visible and then, when the player is selected; we'll tailor the threads appropriately and throw them open for people to welcome the players with open arms.

Or, as it may be, threaten to cancel your membership because we yet again overlooked Dayle Garlett.

Could it be another David Myers year where we get all these posters saying we should have take Rhys Palmer instead, then boasting they were right when he won rising star then going all quiet when Myers surpassed him!

Usually about 2 minutes after I wake up.

Or it might be 6:30pm

I think it's 7.30 actually, a couple of stations are going live from 7.00, others from 7.30, can't quite peg it atm

Oops, I read 6:30 somewhere

I honestly can't find an actual first pick start time, the AFL website has plenty of 'Join Cal Twomey and Gary Lyon (jesus f**king christ god no) at 5pm to discuss all the lead up to the draft' but no actual start time.

Anyway, I'm going out for the night, will be back on later to register my disgust when we take a skinny medium defender

Not sure where you're getting this from. St Kilda went to the draft last year and came away looking like bandits with Billings, Acres, Dunstan, Curran and Templeton, all of which look the goods. They have 4 decent picks again this year and know that they will still be in rebuild mode next year. The club has shown they can effectively pull off a rebuild in recent times, they are going about it fine.
